A man named Angus McSorely (Robert Pike Daniel) tells them they are dealing with actual sand sharks that can swim through sand and offers to take care of them for the town, but is written off as crazy. Sandy Powers (Brooke Hogan), the shark expert Brenda called, was watching the meeting and has a talk with John while examining a shark tooth. At night two men are being stalked by a sand shark while on their raft in the water. They try to escape but the shark moves on land and devours them.

He checks into a hotel room and the next day does an inventory, with another Marine, of Phelps' personal items including: a cross on a string, a Saint Christopher necklace, a wristwatch, and Phelps' dog tags. He is told that Phelps's private effects are not to leave his side, under any circumstances. The colonel then verifies that the body in the van is in fact the private and then begins his drive to the airport where he has a talk with Rich Brewer (played by John Magaro) of the Dover Port Mortuary.

Meanwhile, Stan draws pictures of breasts on the wall of his house referring to his work and breasts as "Ah-tah," an apparent reference to the film Quest for Fire, wherein prehistoric man refers to fire as "Atar." Stan's father, Randy, has a talk with him about his breast-obsession, going along with Stan's calling breasts "Ah-tahs", and describes all women have breasts: "And one day you'll meet a pair of boobs you want to marry." This eventually convinces Stan to snap out of his caveman-like trance. Tallpaw takes offense that his own mother is not grieving for Sandgorse and instead mated with another cat and says that her kits are another excuse to stay in the nursery as Palebird had been in the nursery ever since he was born and when his littermate, Finchkit died right after being born. Tallpaw swears vengeance upon Sparrow. After completing his training, he leaves the clan to pursue Sparrow, and, after days of traveling, he finds where Sparrow and his traveling friends are making camp. Talltail plans to attack Sparrow at night, but after Talltail has a talk with Sparrow, the night he was supposed to kill Sparrow, the loner reveals that Sandgorse actually sacrificed himself so he could escape.

In the Year Two annual, Clayface takes the form of Dick to infiltrate Barbara Gordon's base for Superman, but is eventually discovered and stopped by Jim Gordon, Barbara, and the Birds of Prey. In the Year Three series, Dick's spirit is called upon by the dying Deadman to replace him, allowing Dick to return to action as he investigates who the Spectre is after finding Jim Corrigan, under the influence of Joker Venom, in Arkham Asylum. Near the end of the series he has a talk with Bruce on how he has no regrets about his life despite the way it ended, declaring love for his adopted father.

Cam is angry about this until Mitchell admits he was worried about them staying together, and apologizes with promises to give their daughter a hyphenated name of co-equals.
