This may be beneficial for establishing vegetation after clearing Mimosa.

Adult walnut twig beetles carry spores of the Geosmithia morbida fungus, which grows profusely around the pupal chamber of the beetles. Following emergence from trees the beetles subsequently tunnel into branches and trunks of walnut for production of egg galleries or overwintering shelters. The fungus is introduced into the tree during this wounding where it subsequently germinates and grows. The fungal mycelium initially colonize tissue immediately surrounding the beetle galleries.

The origin of the name of the settlement Kefar Shiḥlayim is explained in the Jerusalem Talmud as being because they were prolific in child-bearing, just as garden-cress (Aramaic: taḥlūsiya) grows profusely when cultivated. The Aramaic word is equivalent to the Mishnaic Hebrew word for the same, being shiḥlayim.Tosefta (Shabbat 15:13; Shevi'it 4:12), Jerusalem Talmud (Avodah Zarah 5:3), Babylonian Talmud (Avodah Zarah 29a). In the Babylonian Talmud the name of the settlement is attributed to the fact that the inhabitants of that place subsisted on the traffic of cress.

The Manor was sold to Sir William Langthorne in 1707, who is represented by the white cross and red fleurs-de- lys from his arms. The holly is from the seal of the old Hampstead Vestry, which grows profusely in the area. Charges from these arms were used, together with charges from the coats of arms of Holborn and of St. Pancras, when the new coat of arms of the London Borough of Camden was designed in 1965. The former coat of arms can still be seen on Hampstead War Memorial.

The forest around Lake Mahinapua ranges from rimu-kamahi on the terraces and moraines left by the retreating glacier, to coastal dune forest that starts on ancient dunes (around the Jum Michel walk), through to low forest on more recent dunes (as seen at Mananui Bush). In the northern and southern wetlands bordering the lake grows kahikatea swamp forest and flax. Flax grows profusely along Mahināpua Creek, where it was cultivated for commercial harvest after the forest was cleared. This is one of the few areas on this art of the West Coast that preserves an almost continuous forest from the Southern Alps to the Tasman Sea.

Triadica sebifera is native to China and Taiwan, and was introduced to Japan during the Edo period. It is also found in the southeastern United States, Puerto Rico, Costa Rica, India, Martinique, Sudan, and southern France. Incorrectly thought to have been introduced in colonial times by Benjamin Franklin, the tree has become naturalized from North Carolina southward along the Atlantic and the entire Gulf coast, where it grows profusely along ditchbanks and dikes. It grows especially well in open fields and abandoned farmland coastal prairie regions featuring disturbed ground—such as abandoned farmland, spoil banks, roadsides, and storm-damaged forests—and along the edges of the Western Gulf coastal grasslands biome, sometimes forming monocultures.
