Vicky then kills Yiu-cho and Yee-ting. Later, Pauline becomes pregnant and Cheuk-nam wants to get married with her, although she is hesitant. Vicky gradually grows pale despite feeling absolutely no pain. Cheuk-nam is assigned to provide close protection for Yiu- chung.

Meanwhile, Dominique, visits her late dad who died, and her mother, is often absent, working to pay the bills. Shortly, Heather's legs are broken by two cars in an apparent freak accident. Guiltless, Ursula attempts to prove the authenticity of the book to a skeptical Dominique, targeting Heather's boyfriend, Kyle, whose face becomes burned and blistered by a corrosive liquid upon falling down during a Chemistry class exam. Ursula grows pale and diabolical, and the book previously untitled now reads Ephemeris Diaboli.

Jonathan Harker and Dr.Seward discuss the condition of Harker’s wife, Mina. She has bad dreams and grows pale and weak. Dr. Seward has sent for Professor Van Helsing. They also talk about Harkers’ new extravagant neighbor, Count Dracula. Harker helped him to buy property in London, including Carfax Abbey, which is both next door to Harkers’ residence and to Dr.Seward’s asylum. Dracula meanwhile comes with a visit and hypnotizes Harkers’ maid to do his bidding whenever he needs her to. Abraham Van Helsing arrives to help with Mina’s case. Seward tells Van Helsing about Lucy Westera, a friend of Mina's who complained about bad dreams and had two small marks on her throat, then wasted away and died.

When they reach its exhibit, they find that the Turk isn't answering the crowd's questions to their satisfaction. Ferdinand draws near to the Turk, exchanges some questions with it, grows pale, and then declares to the crowd that the Turk has answered as hoped. Returning to Lewis, Ferdinand says that there must be some spirit controlling the Turk, because he asked it about something he had never told anyone else about: Some time ago, Ferdinand was staying in an inn next door to a woman with a beautiful singing voice. In his dreams, he imagined her calling out to him, that she was a childhood friend who he was destined to be with.

The chronicler Henry of Huntingdon also mentions Adeliza's beauty in an interlude in his Historia Anglorum, stating, "A jewel grows pale on you, a crown does not shine. Put adornment aside, for nature provides your adornment..."Henry of Huntingdon, 469 Adeliza's father was Godfrey I, Count of Louvain (1095–1139), Landgrave of Brabant, and Duke of Lower Lotharingia (1106–1128), an ally of Henry V, Holy Roman Emperor. After the death of Adeliza's mother, Ida of Chiny, Godfrey married Clementia of Burgundy, the mother of Baldwin VII, Count of Flanders, who had fought with the French against the Normans in 1118.
