It is not to be confused with the Swiss cheese gruyère, which is a related cheese that in some languages has a name similar to Graviera. Graviera is Greece’s second most popular cheese after feta. Made in wheels, the rind of the hard cheese is marked with the characteristic crisscross pattern of its draining cloth.

Adonis-Graviera Contest was held in 1994 to select India's representative to the very first edition of Mister World in 1996. Bikram Saluja won the Adonis-Graviera Contest and represented India at the very first edition of Mister World held in Istanbul, Turkey in 1996. Tom Nuyens won the contest and Bikram finished in top 10. In the same year (1994) Gladrags Manhunt Contest was held in India to represent India at Manhunt International for the very first time. Rajat Bedi won this contest and participated in Manhunt International in 1994.

In the years 1996 and 1998, the winner of the contest represented India at Mister World contest. Later the title was changed to "Mr. India" International and the winner was sent to compete at Mr. International pageant.

Mayur was born on 25 November 1978. He completed his primary education from Sri Kumaran's School, Bangalore. Later, he joined National High School and subsequently the Sri Bhagawan Mahaveer Jain College where he obtained a degree in Bachelor of Business Management. Mayur began modeling later and was one of 25 models selected from South India for the Regional Scanning of Graviera Mr. India in 1997, but was disqualified because he was under-age to contest.

Omalos itself is about 5 km from the entrance to the gorge at Xyloskalo,Wikimapia and derives most of its importance from its association with trekking. An old stone mule track connects Omalos with Agia Eirini to the west, from whence access to the next gorge to the west, the Agia Eirini Gorge is made. The cooler climate and fertile soil lends itself to growing vegetables and fruit such as potatoes and apples, together with cereals. Small round stone houses (mitata) are used for making local cheese (graviera).
