There are many similar cartoons that feature anti-Japanese stereotypes. The most similar is You're a Sap, Mr. Jap (1942) in which Popeye spots a broken down fishing boat. When he goes on board, two foreign sailors hand him a false peace treaty which Popeye tries to sign (perhaps showing the willingness of the American people to stop war) before they hit him over the head with a mallet. They then try to give him a bouquet of flowers as an apology but it has an angry lobster inside. The broken down ship is eventually revealed to be disguising a huge destroyer and sinks Popeye’s ship.

After being saved from an ancient Machina, Cid goes on board the Gullwings' Celsius, much to Brother's dismay. However, by Final Fantasy X-2 International + Last Mission, Cid returns to make business in Mt. Gagazet alongside his son.

After Rush gave Dannic the ultimatum of surrendering or dying, Telford tried to convince Dannic to surrender telling him Rush wasn't bluffing. However, Dannic, who had been growing increasingly irrational, went insane and decided to die rather than surrender leading Telford to believe that Dannic wanted the ship for himself and not the Alliance. Dannic went to kill Telford, but was killed from behind by Ginn who had realized Telford was right and surrendered to Rush. In the second-season episode "Awakening", when the Destiny stops nearby an Ancient Stargate seeding vessel, Telford goes on board as an escort to T.J. to evaluate a mysterious alien who has awakened inside the ship.

In Escape Velocity, he finds out that he has the ability to interface with any digital technology and control it, and that he is a clone of Number One (explaining his white hair and his ability to absorb information).
