Allan Ashbolt. '"Godzone 3: Myth and Reality," Meanjin Quarterly, 25.4 (December 1966): 353. Ashbolt satirised the suburb that represented Australian nationalism, rooted in the post-World War II era, as passive and uninspired, inscribed strongly in spatial terms. Architect and cultural critic, Robin Boyd, also criticised suburbia, referring to it as the Australian Ugliness.

Russian Snark is a 2010 New Zealand film directed and written by Stephen Sinclair and produced by Liz DiFiore. The film features Stephen Papps, Elena Stejko, Stephanie Tauevihi and Te Waimarie Kessell. It is the story of Misha, a Russian filmmaker, and his struggles to make a movie in Godzone. It is the directorial debut of New Zealand writer Stephen Sinclair.

William George Picton Wrathall (1931, in Auckland – 1995) was a cartoonist for the New Zealand Truth newspaper from 1976 to 1991. His work also appeared in the Weekly News, New Zealand Listener, and the Sunday Times. As well as editorial cartoons, he produced several comic strips, including Godzone for the New Zealand Listener and Pioneer Go Home for Truth (from 1974).

The Yeomen were a New Zealand band of the 1960s. It included Brian Borland, Peter Carter and Gordon Hubbard. The Yeomen were best known for their song and jingle for Chesdale Cheese's Ches and Dale animated advertising campaign: "We are the boys from down on the farm, We really know our cheese..".Max Cryer The Godzone Dictionary 2010 The Chesdale song was written by Terry Grey.

Both names fell out of popularity in the 20th century, although "God's Own Country" (or "Godzone") still occasionally appears. Latinate names for the country have included Zealandia and Nova Zealandia. Many cities and towns have nicknames based on a prominent feature or one which promoters wish to emphasise. Christchurch is promoted as the "Garden City" and Auckland is commonly referred to as the "city of sails".

He returned to New Zealand, and was ordained and appointed minister of Ponsonby Baptist Church, a small congregation in the central city. Here he was to remain for some 9 years. He held a variety of jobs concurrent with that of minister, as a journalist for New Outlook, a current affairs journal, and later as a part-time lecturer at Baptist College. His first book, Godzone: A Guide to the Travels of the Soul, was published in 1992.

The phrase "God's own country" was heard during the 1970s in Zimbabwe (formerly Rhodesia, Southern Rhodesia), where most people perceived the land as beautiful despite the ongoing Bush War of the time. Evidence of the phrase being used earlier in reference to Rhodesia is found in Chartered Millions: Rhodesia and the Challenge to the British Commonwealth by John Hobbis Harris, published 1920 by Swarthmore Press (refer to page 27). The phrase "Godzone" is distinctly different and was not used in Rhodesia.

Hyde's company also worked with Dutton in 1998 to launch the Cybereditions e-book and print-on-demand publishing operation, which Webcentre owns outright. Hyde was also founder and managing editor of New Zealand Science Monthly magazine which was published for the full decade from 1990 to 2000. During that time she authored Godzone Skies, Astronomy for New Zealanders and helped launch and market Webcentre's flagship TurboNote software. Hyde won the New Zealand Association of Scientists science journalism award in 1999.
