The Humps Nature Reserve has two marked walking trails. Gnamma Trail is approximately long over flat terrain. In contrast, Kalari Trail is approximately long and ascends to the summit, and permits focus on the geology and vegetation along the way.

Panholes are capable of collecting water when it rains, freezing over when the weather gets cold, dry out in hotter weather, and can even contain some species of bacteria. Panholes range in size from a few centimeters to many meters in diameter. The cavities can be shallow or more than deep, containing hundreds of liters of water. The Australian aboriginal term gnamma, in particular, implies a depression capable of holding water at times.

There are several nearby attractions for people crossing the Nullabor Plain. Numerous rockholes, blowholes, and gnamma holes are located on tracks off of the Eyre Highway in the vicinity of Caiguna, including the Caiguna Blowhole, and the Jillbunya and Cardanumbi Rockholes. These features were formed by years of chemical and physical weathering of the limestone bedrock of the Nullabor Plain. The Readymix logo geoglyph, created during the sealing of the Eyre Highway, lies around north west of Caiguna.

Pools of rainwater known as gnammas often form on granite outcrops. These provide habitat to around 230 aquatic invertebrates, of which at least 50 are endemic to these pools, and provide freshwater to other inhabitants and visitors. Gnamma on Mount Melville, Albany The flora of these granitic outcrops is notable in many regards. Woody species may include tall trees, eucalypts, sheoak, acacia, and rock figs of the genus Ficus, smaller species include these genera and taxa of verticordia, banksia, grevillea, and melaleuca.
