In the summer of 1969, Kennedy attended a party for young female staffers on Chappaquiddick island where much drinking was involved, offering to give a ride to 28-year-old Mary Jo Kopechne (Kate Mara, a good actress without much to do here).

When the reporter brings along an immigration official demanding to see the French countess's papers, Fay runs away. In a rural area she crashes her car. Mark, in pursuit, is asked at a gas station if he can give a ride to a "big town girl" who crashed her car. Without her mask, Fay is unrecognized by Mark.

Later, Cookie drives Breezy and Maureen to become married, and they give a ride to a hitchhiking Courtney along the way.

The night before moving in with her boyfriend, Laure goes to visit some friends and becomes stuck in traffic due to a Paris transit strike. Inspired by a radio news bulletin which encouraged drivers to car pool and offer rides to strangers, she decides to give a ride to a strange man named Jean she spots in the street and is immediately attracted to him. After cancelling on her friend, the two go for a pizza and then spend the night together in a hotel.

Cooper and the hitchhiker watch Samson and Delilah at a drive-in as Cooper discusses professions he's considered as a means to make money and how he reads the almanac so that he can be learning and earning money at the same time.

The authorities began to suspect Reed had been involved in the Stites murder based on similarities in the case to an attack on another woman six months later on November 9, 1996. Linda Schlueter, age 19, had agreed to give a ride to a man she met after stopping at a drive- up payphone at a now-closed Long's Star Mart. When she went to drop him off, he attacked her and said he would kill her for resisting him, but then fled the scene with her vehicle after seeing car lights approaching. Reed was detained by police based on Schlueter's description, and she subsequently picked him out of a photo line-up.

Later, Eillam was also one of the founders of the hotline for male victims of sexual violence. In the 1980s, Eillam continued to establish and participate in feminist and other initiatives for social justice. From 1979 to 1986, she was a member of the board of directors of the political party Meretz, headed by Shulamit Aloni. At the beginning of the decade, she worked as a community coordinator in the Neve Ofer neighborhood of southern Tel Aviv, and for a number of years was on the steering committee for the Shatil organization of the New Israel Fund. Between 1982 and 1987, she was one of the founders and organizers of the Women Against Violence Against Women group, which worked to eradicate pornography, and initiated field activities such as "Take Back the Night" marches as part of a global women's movement against violence and the Give a Ride to a Woman campaign, which promoted safety for women in transportation.
