However, none of these are known to have survived. One of his religious paintings, a Lamentation is known from the print, which Sweerts himself made after his own painting. The composition is unusual for the Virgin’s comforting gesture towards the inconsolable Mary Magdalene.

A Kiss from Mary Pickford A Kiss From Mary Pickford () is a 1927 Soviet silent comedy film made in directed by Sergei Komarov and co-written by Komarov and Vadim Shershenevich. The film, starring Igor Ilyinsky, is mostly known today because of a cameo by the popular film couple Mary Pickford and Douglas Fairbanks. The footage of the couple was shot during their visit to the USSR, with the couple knowingly participating as a gesture towards the Russian film industry. A print of the film still exists and is preserved at the Library of Congress.

The second usage of the gesture, also found in Italy and other Mediterranean and Latin countries (including Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Cuba, France, Greece, Portugal, Spain, and Uruguay) is instead obscene, disrespectful, and insulting. Unlike the first usage of the gesture, this obscene usage of the gesture involves pointing the two fingers upward or directing the gesture towards someone and swiveling the hand back and forth. Bathurst was Lord President of the Council in the government of the Duke of Wellington from 1828 to 1830, and favoured the removal of the disabilities of Roman Catholics, although did not believe that it would improve the constitution and so voted against.

In 1700 Johnstone became Lord Provost of Edinburgh in succession to Sir George Home of Kello. It was not allowed for anyone to serve for more than two consecutive years as Provost and in 1702 he was succeeded by Hugh Cunningham of Bonnington. He was knighted before 1702. In 1702, he was elected Burgh Commissioner for Edinburgh. He became a member of the Scottish Privy Council from 1702 to 1704. In 1704 he became Provost again for two years and was also Privy Counseller again for two years. He was appointed to the Commission for union with England in 1706, as a gesture towards the capital’s governing body. He managed to obtain important concessions for Edinburgh, such as the continuation of the ale duty; and the majority of the council was persuaded to support union with England.

The first written document that mentions the name "Crnković" dates from 1429, from the village of Zavrsji in the county of Brod Moravice. The document is a church testimonial of the marriage between Petar Crnković (1411–1452) and Marija Boreli on 2/3 1429. In 1635, Ivan Crnković (1611–1672), captain of the Frankopan Guard married Klara Frankopan (1618–1669), the daughter of Petar Dimitri Frankopan (brother of Fran Krsto Frankopan). The Frankopan dynasty, together with the Zrinski dynasty dominated Croatian history (they were the two most prominent families in Croatia from the 14th to the 17th century). In the year of 1636, Ivan Crnković was promoted to chief commandant of the Frankopan Guard and the Crnković family acquired lordship status. The first Crnković coat of arms dates from 1637. In 1663, Fran Krsto Frankopan donated a fortified estate in the vicinity of Velike Lesice. This estate is in Crnković possession until 1798, when Petar Nikola Crnković (1752–1810) burned down his own estate as a supporting gesture towards the French Revolution.
