Van Praagh joined Ballet Rambert in 1933. Later she also danced with Antony Tudor's London Ballet. Van Praagh performed in some of Tudor's ballets such as Jardin aux Lilas (otherwise Lilac Garden), Dark Elegies, Gala Performance, Soirée musicale and The Planets. In the early years of World War II, she was heavily involved in staging lunch time ballet shows called Ballet for a Bob, which attracted large audiences of civilian and military personnel.

In 1889, William Phelps was appointed by president Benjamin Harrison as Envoy Extraordinary and Minister Plenipotentiary to Germany. On October 11, 1889, William Phelps was presented to the German Empress at a gala performance at the Royal Opera House, given in honor of the Czar of Russia. Phelps remained in the post for one year until a case of homesickness prompted his request for a short leave of absence. He sailed for America in September 1890.

The British choreographer Frederick Ashton created a balletic pas de deux from the Méditation. Premiered on 21 March 1971, the piece was created on Antoinette Sibley and Anthony Dowell of The Royal Ballet and performed at the Adelphi Theatre as part of a Gala Performance. Adelaide Festival Centre, Australia's first multi-purpose arts centre, was built in three parts from April 1970 to 1980. It was designed from the inside out by architect John Morphett. In 1995, the company established four theatre ensembles with a strong musical theatre focus. Polka Theatre started life as a puppet touring company in 1967 under the Artistic Directorship of Richard Gill. The theatre venue (formerly the Holy Trinity Halls in Wimbledon) opened on 20 November 1979 and was the UK’s first theatre venue dedicated exclusively to children. The opening was marked with a Gala performance attended by Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother. By 1983 Polka was regularly programming and producing productions aimed specifically at children under 5 in its studio space, known as the Adventure Theatre.
Later in the decade he continued working with Brown and Coe, as well as with Brian Lemon (on bass), Humphrey Lyttelton, and Phil Seamen on drums. He also led his own smaller and larger ensembles. Blair on Broadway opened at Highbury's Hen and Chickens Theatre on 25 October 2007. The show's critical reception, which included reviews in The Daily Telegraph, The Guardian and The Stage, was mixed, with descriptions ranging from "a show that packs some punch" (The Telegraph) to "toothless spoof" (The Guardian). The show proved popular with audiences, with the initial run selling out. On 2007-11-18, a charity gala performance of the show was staged at the Arts Theatre, off Leicester Square in the West End.

Monotones is a one-act ballet in two parts choreographed by Frederick Ashton to music by Erik Satie. Monotones II was created first as a gala piece for a gala performance in aid of the Royal Ballet Benevolent Fund in 1965. Ashton had long been inspired by the Gymnopedies by Erik Satie of 1888 and took orchestrations by Claude Debussy and Roland-Manuel as the basis of a pas de trois for two men and one woman. The premiere was on 24 March 1965 with Vyvyan Lorrayne, Anthony Dowell, and Robert Mead.

Benefit performances, where an opera's singer, conductor or composer received the box-office takings for a particular performance in addition to their salary, were a common practice in the 18th- and 19th-century opera world. Viardot's villa in Baden-Baden had an adjacent salon and art gallery. She later added a small theatre there known locally as the Théâtre du Thiergarten, which could seat about 30 people, making it appropriate for small stage productions. The theatre was inaugurated on August 13, 1869, with a gala performance of Le dernier sorcier.

In 2002, he made a guest appearance on the song "Novus", the closing track on Santana's album Shaman. Domingo sang before Benedict XVI, during the pope's visit to Nationals Park and the Italian embassy in Washington D.C. on 16 and 17 April 2008. On 15 March 2009, the Metropolitan Opera paid tribute to Domingo's 40th and the company's 125th anniversaries with a gala performance and onstage dinner.
It lasted for one six-episode season. Also at Christmas 2003, CBC aired the Seán Cullen's Home for Christmas special. Cullen hosted the 17th and 18th Annual Gemini Awards Galas in 2002 and 2003 respectively, winning a Gemini himself the latter year for hosting the former gala. In 1946, Roosevelt University saved the venue from demolition by acquiring the building, but lacking the money required to renovate the theatre, kept it dormant for two decades. In 1963, Mrs. Beatrice Spachner, with the approval of Roosevelt University, created the Auditorium Theatre Council and undertook a campaign to restore and reopen the theatre, raising nearly $3 million to renovate the structure. Architect Harry Weese oversaw the refurbishment of the theatre, and on October 31, 1967, the Auditorium Theatre reopened with a gala performance of the New York City Ballet's production of "A Midsummer Night's Dream".

Psalmus Hungaricus, Op. 13, is a choral work for tenor, chorus and orchestra by Zoltán Kodály, composed in 1923. The Psalmus was commissioned to celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of the unification of Buda, Pest and Óbuda for a gala performance on 19 November 1923 along with the Dance Suite by Béla Bartók, and the Festival Overture by Ernő Dohnányi, who conducted the concert. The work's first performance outside Hungary took place under Volkmar Andreae in Zürich on 18 June 1926. This marked a turning point in the international recognition of Kodály as a composer, beyond his renown as an ethnomusicologist and music educator.

In 2006, Crawford attended the Gala Performance of the stage version of The Phantom of the Opera on Broadway at the Majestic Theatre to celebrate the show's becoming the longest-running musical in Broadway history (surpassing the run of Cats).
The Australian composer, Ian Keith Harris, has written sixteen. Jennifer Paull gave recitals in Great Britain and Europe with John McCabe, who composed both Concerto for Oboe d'amore and Chamber Orchestra and Dance-Prelude (for oboe d'amore and piano) for her. The duo were honoured to give the première of this piece (commissioned by the Merseyside Arts Council and the City of Liverpool) at a Royal Gala Performance in the presence of Queen Elizabeth II, at the Liverpool Empire Theatre (1971). She has given many concerts and lecture recitals in the Americas, Europe and the Middle East.
Another change for the 1982 festival was the final stage's departure from the Kenya National Theatre. The location would instead circulate to different regions (previously provinces) each year (with the exception of North Eastern Region because of its hostile weather and bandit-prone roads). This promoted theatre even in areas where drama was not well-known. During the 1982 festival in Western Kenya, away from the capital, adjudicators defied the government by not only including a banned political play – Makwekwe written by Tim Wandiri and performed by Kapsabet Girls' High School – in a gala performance but judging it the winner.
Side entrance on St Edward's Passage The Cambridge Arts Theatre opened on 3 February 1936 with a gala performance by the Vic-Wells Ballet, featuring among others Robert Helpmann, Margot Fonteyn and Frederick Ashton. On February 11, 2000 at the USC Thornton School of Music, he and his brothers, Pepe and Celin, were each presented with the Grand Cross of Isabel la Catolica (the highest honour that can be offered in Spain), and were knighted for their musical accomplishments; the ceremony included a gala performance by The Romeros and the Thornton Chamber Orchestra. From 8 to 24 May 2008, the Lyric Hammersmith celebrated the 50th anniversary of The Birthday Party with a revival and related events, including a gala performance and reception hosted by Harold Pinter on 19 May 2008, exactly 50 years after its London première there. The final revival during Pinter's lifetime was a production of No Man's Land, directed by Rupert Goold, opening at the Gate Theatre, Dublin, in August 2008, and then transferring to the Duke of York's Theatre, London, where it played until 3 January 2009. On the Monday before Christmas 2008, Pinter was admitted to Hammersmith Hospital, where he died on Christmas Eve from liver cancer.
In the spring of 1951 Pola sang Alfredo to Maria Callas's Violetta at the Teatro Regio in Parma. Unfortunately, Callas and her husband Giovanni Battista Meneghini took a disliking to Pola, which had a negative impact on his career in Italy. In the summer of 1951, he sang Enzo Grimaldi at the Baths of Caracalla for a gala performance for the Italian government and the official state guest, the President of the Philippines. Pola was invited the next day to an audience with the Filipino President, where he was offered a position as the principal tenor at the Manila Opera and a place on the voice faculty at the Manila Conservatory.

Ninja Tune invited The Cinematic Orchestra to perform at the twentieth anniversary gala performance of the label at the Royal Albert Hall in November 2010. In 2011, The Cinematic Orchestra commissioned a series of compositions for avant-garde short films that were performed at the Barbican Centre under the auspices of its curating a series entitled "In Motion" (also featuring Dorian Concept with saxophonist Tom Chant, Grey Reverend, and Austin Peralta). In 1961, Johnson entered the UK Singles Chart with "Sucu Sucu", the theme music from the UK television series Top Secret. It was in this area of television scoring that he was to be most prolific. From the 1960s to the 1980s, he composed over fifty themes and scores, including the theme used on This Is Your Life (entitled "Gala Performance"), The Avengers (from 1965), Animal Magic (entitled "Las Vegas"), Jason King, The New Avengers and The Professionals. He was one of the founders, with Albert Fennell and Brian Clemens, of Mark One Productions, the television production company responsible for The New Avengers and The Professionals.

In London 1992, he took part in the Royal Gala performance of Coppélia in the presence of the Princess of Wales.
After the outbreak of the Franco-Prussian War in July 1870, the Viardot family left Baden-Baden for London where they stayed until 1871, with Turgenev, once again living nearby. While Viardot was in London, Le dernier sorcier received a private performance there. An internal report by Prospect now questioned "whether Prospect can any longer satisfy the triple task of filling the Vic, of satisfying the [Arts Council] Director of Touring's requirements for product of a certain familiar sort, and of realising the vision of Toby Robertson".Quoted in Rowell, p. 160 Robertson was in effect fired from the post of artistic director in 1980 while he was abroad with the company in China, Timothy West replacing him. The following season, West's first as Robertson's successor, saw Macbeth with Peter O'Toole, The Merchant of Venice with West as Shylock, and a gala performance presented to the Queen Mother to celebrate her eightieth birthday.

September 2017 Dolan performed "Aquarius/Let the Sunshine In" from the musical Hair at the American Theatre Wing's Centennial Gala. The gala raised a record-breaking $1.2 million for the organization. Dolan performed with fellow School of Rock alumni Brandon Niederauer, Ethan Khusidman, Raghav Mehrotra, along with Swedish recording artist Peter Jöback and the original Christine Daaé Sarah Brightman at a special gala performance of the title song from The Phantom of the Opera as it marked its 30th anniversary at the Majestic Theatre on January 24, 2018. September 2018 Dolan participated in the record breaking American Theatre Wing gala honoring EGOT Andrew Lloyd Webber raising over $1.6 million for Sir Lloyd Webber's Initiative Legacy Fund.
Gala performance of The Mikado at the Ruhleben internment camp MacMillan traveled to Paris in the spring of 1914 and began to study piano privately with Thérèse Chaigneau. He was visiting Bayreuth, Germany, to attend performances of the Bayreuth Festival, when the First World War began in August, following the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria on June 28. MacMillan was initially detained by the German Police, and then imprisoned as an enemy alien, as Canada had declared war on Imperial Germany on August 5. MacMillan was subsequently interned for the duration of the War at Ruhleben, a British civilian detention camp, located on the site of a former horse racing track, on the outskirts of Berlin.
Albani as Desdemona. Albani made her debut with New York's Metropolitan Opera on 20 November 1891 as Valentine in Meyerbeer's Les Huguenots, a performance which took place while the company was on tour in Chicago. Her second appearance in Chicago on 23 November was as Desdemona in the company's first ever performance of Verdi's Otello, and she also sang the role there at a gala performance of Act 4 on 9 December. Other appearances with the Met in Chicago included another as Valentine, Gilda in Rigoletto, Violetta in Act 1 of Verdi's La traviata (on a double bill with Mascagni's Cavalleria rusticana, in which Emma Eames's sang Santuzza) and Elsa in Wagner's Lohengrin.

Yvan's highest score in the Academy was 9.80 when he sang SAY YOU'LL NEVER GO by Neocolours and his lowest was 6.00 when he sang NO TOUCH along with Panky, Chai, Geoff, Davey & Rosita. He has an average score of 8.49, the highest average score among the remaining 8 scholars.
In Paris in the 1880s, the Palais Garnier Opera House is believed to be haunted by an entity known as the Phantom of the Opera, or simply the Opera Ghost. A stagehand named Joseph Buquet is found hanged and the noose around his neck goes missing. At a gala performance for the retirement of the opera house's two managers, a young little-known Swedish soprano, Christine Daaé (based on singer Christina Nilsson), is called upon to sing in place of the Opera's leading soprano, Carlotta, who is ill, and her performance is an astonishing success. The Vicomte Raoul de Chagny, who was present at the performance, recognizes her as his childhood playmate and recalls his love for her.
However, work continued, and the house, christened the Ellen Eccles Theatre after the family member of one of the principal philanthropists, opened to a gala performance on January 8, 1993. Reed was made NYCB's ballet mistress 1959, helping dancers such as Allegra Kent, Patricia McBride, Edward Villella, and Pacific Northwest Ballet founders Francia Russell and Kent Stowell improve their technique.
In July of that year, she was photographed on the arm of TV personality Graham Kennedy, attending a special a gala performance of the musical Hair, to celebrate the first anniversary of the show's Sydney premiere. In 1911 a Great 'Gala' performance was given by the theatrical profession at His Majesty's Theatre in London in celebration of the coronation of King George V. In 1912, King George V and Queen Mary attended an all-star Royal Command Performance at London's Palace Theatre in aid of the Variety Artistes' Benevolent Fund, and the following year it was decided to make the evening an annual event. 1919 saw the first event to be named the Royal Variety Performance, and a variety of entertainment, including music (of all genres), comedy, dance, music-hall and speciality acts were included.
However, it has been supposed that Kaarel Ird did not defend so much the theatre innovation as the talents, being concerned about the continuation of Estonian theatre. In the beginning of the 70s Vanemuine also travelled to the German Democratic Republic (in summer 1971 they gave a gala performance and in 1973 the production „Külavahelaulud“ / Village Songs went to Germany). Vanemuine went to Hungary in 1972 with Imre Madách’ „The Tragedy of Man“ and Smuul's „Kihnu Jõnn“. In Finland they gave performances with the production „Külavahelaulud“ / Village Songs and „Üks ullike läks rändama“ / A Silly One Went to Wander in 1974. Important were also the 1971 tour to Leningrad and the guest performances of 1975 in Moscow.
In the 2018–19 season she celebrated her 25th anniversary as Principal Teacher of the School of the Minnesota Ballet. Lila has choreographed works on the school, including a Tribute to the School, set to Alexander Glazunov's Scènes de Ballet for thirty-six students in the Ballet's 50th Anniversary Gala Performance, a stately work that the Duluth News Tribune pronounced “charmingly choreographed.” She has also set classical excerpts on upper-level students, such as the exotic “Kingdom of the Shades,” from Marius Petipa's La Bayadère Sandra Ehle: Wardrobe designer An accomplished seamstress, in 2009 Sandra designed more than 100 costumes for the Minnesota Ballet's “Manhattan” Nutcracker. She also travels with The Nutcracker, fitting auditioned students into the costumes.
In the autumn of 2015, following well received previews of Love Birds at the LOST Theatre and excellent reviews that followed at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival for Love Birds' official run, Robert Sherman was approached by the LOST Theatre in Stockwell for permission to do a four-week, extendable run of Bumblescratch with the associate creative director of LOST, Jack Bowman directing. After several months of preparation Sherman and Bowman were informed that LOST had to withdraw its offer for lack of funding. With orchestrations and other aspects of the show already commissioned, Sherman decided to proceed with a one-night celebrity gala performance in aid of Variety. That show took place on September 4, 2016.

He is the eldest son of Celedonio Romero, who in 1957 left Spain for the United States with his family. In addition to his busy concert schedule, Romero is Professor of Music and Guitar at the University of California, San Diego.

During the "behind the scenes" segment of her presentation on Talento chileno, she affirmed that her intention was to dedicate herself entirely to music in the future. On 15 November 2010, Camila Silva appeared at the stage of semi-final galas where she performed the song "The Story" by Brandi Carlile. In general she received good reviews, despite the fact that confessed that he had erred in his recommendation that she not use the guitar since it only served as support, because in the gala performance the jury told her that her guitar helped her have more confidence and that was her style.
The new theatre opened on 1 May 2011, with a Gala Performance of The Crucible. The new facility features a new main theatre with a seating capacity of almost 400 and a multi-function performance space 'The Naughton Studio' which can seat between 120 and 170. This new theatre was an almost threefold increase in the size of the previous building and the theatre remains the largest employer of actors and other theatre professionals in the region. The Lyric's current Chair is Sir Bruce Robinson who took over in January 2015 from BBC Northern Ireland journalist Mark Carruthers, who received an OBE at Buckingham Palace on 25 March 2011, in recognition of his leadership of the theatre at a highly critical time in its development.
Previously, in May 2015, the BTP produced the play No Sex, Please – We’re British. This was one of the world’s longest running comedies, running continuously for sixteen years in London's West End, and also one of the favourite forms of British theatre – farce. The play starred Nick Wilton and was directed by Alister Cameron, and enjoyed great success in both Singapore and Kuala Lumpur. In Singapore, the play was also attended by the President His Excellency Dr Tony Tan. The opening night in Singapore was on 6 May at the Raffles Hotel’s Jubilee Hall Theatre, followed by a Charity Gala Performance and Dinner on 8 May, the President HE Dr Tony Tan’s visit on 14 May, and the Cheque Presentation to Breast Cancer Foundation on 19 June.
Among Petipa's changes for this revival was the re-setting of the scene The Kingdom of the Shades from an enchanted castle in the sky on a fully lighted stage, to a dark and rocky setting on the peaks of the Himalayas. Petipa swelled the number of dancers in the Corps de ballet from thirty-two to forty-eight, making the illusion of descending spirits all the more effective in the famous Sortie des bayadères. In March 1903, the scene The Kingdom of the Shades was performed independently during a gala performance at Peterhof Palace in honor of a state visit from Kaiser Wilhelm II. This is the earliest known occasion where the scene The Kingdom of the Shades was performed as an independent concert piece.
In 1917, he was elected an honorary member of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, the American fraternity for male musicians, at the New England Conservatory of Music. Scotti performed in Paris at the Opéra Comique singing Tosca (in 1904 with Emma Eames and Emilio De Marchi, conductor Cleofonte Campanini, and in 1910, with Farrar and Beyle, the young and later-prominent conductor Gino Marinuzzi). In 1910 at Theatre du Châtelet with the Metropolitan ensemble, Scotti sung Falstaff conducted by Arturo Toscanini and at the Opera, in a gala performance, the third act of La bohème with Caruso and Farrar. In 1908, he sang at Salzburg in Don Giovanni, with Lilli Lehmann (Donna Ana), Johanna Gadski (Donna Elvira), Geraldine Farrar (Zerlina), with Karl Muck conducting.
The baritone sang his 100th performance as Rigoletto in 2019 at the Metropolitan Opera, where he made his house debut in 2009 in the same role. In 2020, George Gagnidze appears as Scarpia in Tosca at Teatro San Carlo and the Metropolitan Opera alongside Anna Netrebko in the title part, as Nabucco at Deutsche Oper Berlin, as Rigoletto at San Francisco Opera, as Amonasro in a new staging of Aida at the Metropolitan Opera and as Iago in a gala performance of Otello (Verdi) at Nationaltheater Mannheim. Already announced for 2020 are performances of Nabucco at the Metropolitan Opera with Anna Netrebko making her role debut as Abigaille which will be broadcast as part of the Met's Live in HD series.
Charles Mott - as the Organ Grinder in Elgar's The Starlight Express Elgar invited Mott to play the key role of The Organ Grinder in Lena Ashwell's production of The Starlight Express at the Kingsway Theatre, and this was followed by successful performances in Elgar's song cycle on Kipling's poems The Fringes of the Fleet. In 1916 Mott played the part of the Angel of the Agony in Gerontius, alongside Clara Butt and Gervase Elwes, with the composer conducting. There was a run of six performances at Queen's Hall from 8 May and a gala performance on 19 May in the presence of the King and Queen. At the end of that year he sang in Coleridge-Taylor's exotic Scenes of Hiawatha.
Kinsley later formed Liverpool Express in the mid-1970s, and again experienced chart success with "You Are My Love", mentioned by Paul McCartney as one of his favourite love songs, plus "Every Man Must Have A Dream", "Dreamin", "Hold Tight", and "Smile". They toured the UK and Europe supporting Rod Stewart, released more singles, and found popularity in South America (they were the first band to play large stadiums in Brazil). They had quite a few hit singles all over South America, and three of their singles ("You Are My Love", "Dreamin'", and "Every Man Must Have A Dream") reached No. 1 in the charts. In 1978, they played at the Royal Gala Performance at the request of Prince Charles, at the Empire Theatre in Liverpool.
On 27 June 1911 a Great 'Gala' performance was given by the theatrical profession at His Majesty's Theatre in London in celebration of the coronation of King George V. The proceeds from this event were used to found the 'King George's Pension Fund for Actors and Actresses'. A second Royal Command Performance was held on 1 July 1912, featuring many of the leading stars of the theatre and music halls, in aid of the Variety Artistes' Benevolent Fund, now the Royal Variety Charity. From 1913, it was decided to make this a regular annual 'all-star' event to continue contributing to the fund. The 1913 show was a production of the Dion Boucicault comedy London Assurance at St James's Theatre on 27 June 1913 and raised £1,093.
If his health had permitted he would, in Wearing's view, have stood for Parliament. He was an astute and capable committee man,Pearson, pp. 79–81 giving substantial amounts of time to the Actors' Benevolent Fund, the Royal General Theatrical Fund, the Actors' Association and the Actresses' Franchise League. He was a key organiser of the Coronation Gala Performance in 1911 and the Shakespeare tercentenary celebration at Drury Lane in 1916. When the First World War broke out in 1914 Alexander's health was in decline, but as well as continuing to appear at the St James's he worked for charities including the Red Cross, the League of Mercy and the Order of St John of Jerusalem, organising fund-raising performances, fêtes and garden parties.
During that period he also had minor roles in a number of movies, including Batman Begins, Red Light Runners and Alexander. In 2008, he played the role of Alexander Molokov in a concert version of Chess at the Royal Albert Hall on May 12–13, 2008, and performed in the West End gala performance of Elegies for Angels, Punks and Raging Queens at Soho Revue Bar. Since 2009, Bedella has provided voices of some characters in the UK and US narrations of Thomas and Friends such as Carlos, Victor, The Mayor of Sodor, and A Cuban Man. In 2012, he replaced fellow cast member Matt Wilkinson as Victor in the UK narration in Blue Mountain Mystery, though Wilkinson remains a cast member of the CGI series.
Each year the orchestra holds a collaborative workshop in August with tutors from The State System for Youth and Children’s Orchestras and Choirs (FESNOJIV) Venezuela. These workshops provide a unique opportunity for the youth of Trinidad and Tobago to have an intense introduction to practical musical training and orchestral performance. The workshop planned for August 2016 will be the 16th annual workshop hosted by SACO. Many of these students pick up their instruments for the first time at the start of the three-week workshop. However, by the end of the workshop they are often amazed by what they are able to accomplish, as the workshops always culminate in a gala performance at Queen’s Hall or some other appropriate venue.

The Ibsen Year included cultural events in multiple countries, including an opening ceremony in Oslo attended by the royal family and international guests, television programs, cultural events in Italy, Germany, the United Kingdom, the United States, ChinaIbsenåret lansert i Beijing - Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other countries, and an International Gala performance at the Great Pyramid of Giza in Egypt, hosted by the country's First Lady Suzanne Mubarak and also attended by Queen Sonja. The Ibsen Year's artistic director was Bentein Baardson and the producer was Nora Ibsen. The chairman of the supervisory committee was former Norwegian Minister of Culture Lars Roar Langslet.
As a guest artist Renvall appeared in major companies in the U.S. and abroad. He toured Europe in summer 1981 with Alexander Godunov's Stars of American Ballet and subsequently was featured in the summer tour 1982 of Alexander Godunov and Stars. Also in 1982 he participated in the eighth International Festival of Havanna invited by Cuban prima ballerina assoluta Alicia Alonso. His performances in Flames of Paris, Bluebird pas de deux and Three Easy Tangos prompted Dance News to describe him as the festival's "most admired male guest" In December 1982, he returned to his native Stockholm to dance before the Royal House in a nationally televised gala performance to benefit UNICEF and later at the Royal Opera in the lead role in Configuration and Giselle with Marianna Tscherkassky, principal of American Ballet Theater.
Horne also made several appearances on The Flip Wilson Show. Additionally, Horne played herself on television programs such as The Muppet Show, Sesame Street, and Sanford and Son in the 1970s, as well as a 1985 performance on The Cosby Show and a 1993 appearance on A Different World. In the summer of 1980, Horne, 63 years old and intent on retiring from show business, embarked on a two-month series of benefit concerts sponsored by the sorority Delta Sigma Theta. These concerts were represented as Horne's farewell tour, yet her retirement lasted less than a year. On April 13, 1980, Horne, Luciano Pavarotti, and host Gene Kelly were all scheduled to appear at a Gala performance at the Metropolitan Opera House to salute the NY City Center's Joffrey Ballet Company.

The London cast members hosted a gala performance of the new musical on March 13, 2013, raising £200,000 for the British charity Comic Relief's Red Nose Day. A typical London performance runs two hours and 30 minutes, including an interval of 15 minutes. In March 2014, The Book of Mormon was voted Funniest West End Show as part of the 2014 West End Frame Awards. On July 28, 2014, both Creel and Gertner left the production.
In 1939, Prince Paul, as acting head of state, accepted an official invitation from Adolf Hitler and spent nine days in Berlin. During his visit to Berlin, a massive effort was made to persuade Paul to not join the "peace front" that was meant to "contain" Germany. Paul was greeted by Hitler at the train station in Berlin, was made the guest of honor at a reception and dinner at the Reich Chancellery, visited the Potsdam military base, saw a gala performance of Wagner at the Berlin opera, and reviewed two major military parades meant to impress upon him the power of the Reich. For the first part of his trip, Paul stayed at Bellevue Palace, an old imperial palace and then for the last three days, at Goring's estate at Carinhall.
The 2014 PuSh Festival took place January 14 to February 2, and offered works from Canada, England, Germany, Ireland, Lebanon, Portugal, and the United States. There were over 150 performances and events across 15 venues, including the Vancouver Playhouse, SFU Woodwards and the York Theatre. Feature events included the 10th Anniversary Opening Gala performance and party; 20 Main Stage shows spanning theatre, dance, music and multimedia performance; 17 PuSh Conversations with artists pre- and post-performances; three weeks of startling, experimental performances at Club PuSh; a film series; the PuSh Assembly for arts industry; Patrons Circle donor events; and dinner/theatre packages with Dine Out Vancouver. In 2014, PuSh Festival hosted two Artists- in-Residence in partnership with grunt gallery and the Contemporary Art Gallery (Vancouver) for the first time.

Actresses Yam Kim Fai and Bak Sheut Sin were members of the original cast in leading roles. These two actresses played the leads until 1961 and then only sporadically from 1962 to 1970. In October 2007, Yuen Siu Fai, as the Princess's father in The University of Hong Kong, Culture & Humanities Fund, Fundraising Event (part of the close to HK$18 millions raised within two years) "Princess Changping" Gala Performance on 9 December 2006, Lyric Theatre, The Hong Kong Academy Of Performing Arts 2006/7 performances in Hong Kong and Macau (40 total) schooled one academic on a radio broadcast.
In addition, during her time at university, she trained once again with John Curry and made some sporadic skating appearances. Among these were televised appearances in An Evening With Champions (PBS), Symphony of Sports (ABC Wide World of Sports) and Happy New Year USA (PBS), where she performed a solo La Rose du Bal and was partnered by John Curry in an ensemble waltz from Tchaikovsky's music for Eugene Onegin, choreographed by Tim Murphy. Following her graduation from Princeton, she worked as a principal ballerina with Les Ballets de Monte Carlo and the Vienna State Opera Ballet. In Monte Carlo, she danced (among other roles) the leading roles in George Balanchine's Theme and Variations, Tarantella, Rubies and Tchaikovsky Pas de Deux as well as in Antony Tudor's ballet Gala Performance.
The first decade of the 21st century has seen That’ll Be the Day continue to perform in excess of 210 shows a year throughout the United Kingdom and Europe, including three tours of Denmark (in 2003, 2007 and 2008) and a week-long residency at a theatre in Munster, Germany (in 2005). 2016 saw the show celebrate their 30th anniversary with a special gala performance at the world famous London Palladium. The show played to a capacity house of loyal fans, friends and family securing their place as one of the UK's most successful touring shows. The show has no intentions of slowing down their mammoth schedule and 2018 will see the release of a charity single recorded at Abbey Road Studios for the Make-A-Wish foundation for which the show has already raised well over £250,000 in 3 years.
In 2009-10, she returned to San Diego Opera for Nabucco, to Oper Leipzig for Aida, to Staatsoper Berlin for Tosca and gave her role debut as Odabella in Verdi's Attila in Marseille. In the title role of Puccini's Turandot, she gave her house debut at Monte-Carlo Opera and inaugurated the new opera house in Guangzhou (China) under the baton of Lorin Maazel in May 2010. In the 2010/11 season, Sylvie Valayre returned to the Opéra Bastille in Paris as Giorgetta in Puccini's Il tabarro under the baton of Philippe Jordan, sang a gala performance of Madama Butterfly in Mannheim and gave her debuts at Beejing Opera as Turandot and at Royal Opera Copenhagen as Empress in Strauss' Die Frau ohne Schatten. In November 2011, she sang her first Carmen at the Festival Ninon Vallin.
Returning to Europe, Cura sang Otello at the Staatsoper in Hannover for a single gala performance. He followed that performance with a gala concert in Düsseldorf and offered his Cavaradossi in Tosca in Karlsruhe. The month of June found that Cura was firmly entrenched in Italian theater, returning to Bologna for one of his signature roles, Samson, and then on to Turin for Puccini's rarely performed Edgar in an early celebration of the 150th anniversary of Puccini's birth. left Cura rounded up the summer months with a brief return to Zurich for two performances of Turandot and performed in concert at the Festival of Toledo and at the Tuscan Sun Festival in Cortona – where he also presented an exhibition of his photography in advance of the release of his first collection, Espontáneas: Photography by José Cura.
In a change of artistic orientation, the BTP also presented Louis Hoover’s solo music show Salute to Sinatra, featuring a live 18 piece band on stage to back Louis Hoover, with songs from the celebrated career of Frank Sinatra. The events of the show started with an invitation for the VIPs to meet Louis Hoover on 17 October 2012, followed by the opening night and the Charity Gala Performance and Dinner on 18 October at the Sands Theatre of Marina Bay Sands, Singapore, which was also attended by the former President of Singapore HE Mr S.R. Nathan. The artists included Louis Hoover himself with The Hollywood Orchestra and Melissa Tham; the musical director was Toby Cruse; and the UK musicians were again Toby Cruse (piano/keyboards), Elliot Henshaw (drums), David Olney (bass), Robert Sydor (tenor sax/flute/clarinet) and Tony Dixon (lead trumpet).
Earlier in the same year of 2012, the BTP had produced Ray Cooney OBE’s award-winning farce Out of Order. The show was presented at the Raffles Hotel's Jubilee Hall in Singapore, and later on at the Double Tree Hotel in Kuala Lumpur, with great box office success at both venues. The events for this show included a Meet-the-Cast Reception at Eden Hall on 9 April, a Charity Gala Performance and Dinner on 11 April, and the actual performances took place from 11 to 15 April at the Jubilee Hall Theatre of the Raffles Hotel. The opening night was also attended by the Singaporean President HE Dr Tony Tan and his wife Mrs Mary Tan, the then British High Commissioner H.E. Mr Antony Phillipson, and the then President of the British Chamber of Commerce Mr Steve Puckett.
At London's Royal Festival Hall, its traditional home, the Chorus appeared regularly with Claus Peter Flor and the Philharmonia Orchestra's then Principal Guest Conductor, Leonard Slatkin. In December 1997 the Chorus celebrated its 40th Birthday with its patron The Prince of Wales in attendance at a Gala performance of Verdi’s Requiem with the Philharmonia Orchestra conducted by James Levine, followed three days later by a performance of Mahler’s Eighth Symphony with the same conductor. During this period the Chorus performed for the first time with Valery Gergiev and Sir Mark Elder. Several European tours of Beethoven's Ninth Symphony followed with Giulini and the European Community Youth Orchestra, with Sir Yehudi Menuhin and the Sinfonia Varsovia, and in December 1999 with Sir Simon Rattle and the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, culminating in a Millennium Concert broadcast by BBC Television from Ely Cathedral.
Capping her multifaceted career was the role of the Countess Marie Larish in MacMillan's Mayerling (1978), which depicts the final years of Crown Prince Rudolf of Austria-Hungary. As a lady in waiting to Empress Elizabeth and a former mistress of the prince, played by David Wall, she scored a theatrical triumph. Of all the ballets in which Park appeared in her later years, however, none suited her joyous style of dancing better than Voices of Spring (1983), a pas de deux created by Ashton for a New Year's gala performance of Die Fledermaus at the Royal Opera House. Upon entering the party scene, carried aloft by Wayne Eagling, smiling and strewing flower petals, she and he danced Ashton's buoyant choreography to Johann Strauss's famous waltz with great élan and verve, creating an indelible impression of happiness and grace.
The Diocesan Boys' School Chinese Orchestra (DBSCO; ) originated from a Pipa Ensemble back in the 1950s and developed into a full orchestra in the 1960s. The mission of DBSCO is to promote Chinese music and culture. Since its founding, Diocesan Boys’ School Chinese Orchestra has been an active participant in the Hong Kong Schools Music Festival and captured numerous championships in the ‘Chinese Orchestra (Senior)’ category. Currently, Dean of Culture - Mr. CHO Ka-wai (曹家偉) , Mr. MA Tai Cho (馬太初) and Mr. KONG Sin Hei (江先曦) are the teachers-in-charge of DBSCO and Mr. KWOK Hang-kei is the Principal Conductor and Art Director. In September 1996, DBSCO was invited to perform in the “75th Anniversary Gala Performance of The British Federation of Festivals for Music, Dance and Speech”.
Dobriansky made his Metropolitan Opera Company debut in on 11 February 1970 once again in Puccini's La fanciulla del West, this time in the role of the miner Happy. His repertoire of comprimario roles led to his becoming a staple in the Met roster. His long career at the Met included the Met premieres of Les mamelles de Tirésias (1981), Verdi's I vespri siciliani (1974), the world premiere of The Ghosts of Versailles (1991), as well as in new Met stagings of Khovanshchina (1985), Arabella (1983), Prodaná nevěsta (1978), Gianni Schicchi (1974), La fille du régiment (1972), Werther (1971), and Der Freischütz (1971). He can be heard on many archived Metropolitan Opera broadcasts and telecasts, including the company's first pay-per-view broadcast of its gala performance celebrating the 25th Anniversary of the Metropolitan Opera House at Lincoln Center.
The cast included Dorothie Bigelow as Polly, Sam Edwards as her father, Clara Palmer as Sarah, John Heath Goldsworthy as Cecil, and Clifton Webb as Percy. The evening before, Marbury had hosted a gala performance for her society friends and business associates, all of whom were enthusiastic about the show, but the critics were far less enchanted and it closed after only 15 performances. Bigelow laid the blame for its failure on Riggs and his book, while he in turn insisted it was due largely "to the fact that the composer and I consented to complete transformation of the piece to meet the capabilities of its interpreters and the supposed taste of the public." During her years as director and administrator of the Australian Ballet School, Scott also choreographed several ballets, notably Recollections of a Beloved Place, set to music by Tchaikovsky, for Ballet Victoria in 1975. She expanded her activities in the performing arts as representative of Australia on the Council of the World Dance Alliance, as a jurist at international ballet competitions in Moscow, and as leader of a group of teachers at ballet companies in Beijing and Shanghai. During the 1990s, Dame Margaret returned to the stage on a number of occasions. In 1990, she danced as Aunt Sophy in a gala performance of The Nutcracker, produced in her honour by Robert Ray, and she showed herself to be a talented actress in a non-dancing role in the play In the Body of the Son by Nicholas Rowe, presented at the Darwin Festival in 1995.
Blood Brothers year-long national tour beginning in 1987, produced by Bill Kenwright (and directed by Kenwright and Bob Tomson), starring Kiki Dee as Mrs Johnstone, Warwick Evans as the Narrator, Con O'Neill as Mickey and Robert Locke as Eddie, leading to a revival at the Albery Theatre (now the Noël Coward Theatre), directed by Tomson, with the same cast. O'Neill won an Olivier Award for his performance, and Dee was nominated. Antoinette Miggiani was born in Sliema, Malta. Steeleye Span, Spanfest, 2008 A revitalised lineup consisting of Prior, Kemp, Knight, Genockey and newcomer Ken Nicol released the album They Called Her Babylon early in 2004, to considerable acclaim. The band extensively toured the UK, Europe and Australia, and their relatively prolific output continued with the release of the Christmas album Winter later the same year, as the band ended a busy year of touring with a gala performance in London's Palladium theatre. In 2005 Steeleye Span were awarded the Good Tradition Award at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards, while the 2005 book, Electric Folk by Britta Sweers devotes much space to the band. With a new sense of purpose and a stable line-up, the band carried out a UK tour in April and May 2006, followed by dates in Europe and an appearance at the 2006 Cropredy Festival, where they were the headline act on the opening night.
On July 8 of the same year, their charity album Lamp was released for disaster relief of the 2010 Yushu earthquake. On September 2, Daichin Tana won the "Best Ethnic Music Artist Award" at the Chinese Music Awards. On September 28, 2011, they released their fourth album Migration. On December 31, they performed the "HAYA New Year Migration Concert" at the Tianqiao Theater in Beijing, where they recorded their first live concert DVD and CD set.. On February 5, 2012, they participated in the New Year's Gala Performance of the Chinese Musicians' Association. On March 5, they participated in the Art Power Awards. On June 4, Migration won the "Best Cross-Border Music Album Award" at the 23rd Golden Melody Awards. On December 22, they performed their 6th anniversary concert in Beijing, where they On March 27, 2013, HAYA was awarded the "2013 Extraordinary Fashion People" Award. From May to July, they participated in and produced the "CCTV Competition for the Minority Singing Heroes".
During this era, the fact that the street stories took place in a studio was never kept a secret. Some parts of the street were simply 'matted in' during an episode, or the characters would ask for help from the studio crew; one episode about Samson trying to scratch a flea ends with the entire studio crew itching. The matting also allowed the characters to show up in different locations, like a beach, a small deserted island that would be surrounded by an entire ocean through the snap of one's fingers, a nearby train station, or the roof of the studio. While Big Bird and Oscar the Grouch, both performed by Caroll Spinney, had visited Sesamstraße for the 10th Anniversary special before, a highlight of this era was the celebration of Sesamstraße's 1000th episode; the "Sesamelly Zirkusshow," a circus gala performance taped at "Zirkus Althoff" in which Big Bird appeared alongside the German characters one more time.
It was played by the Massed Bands of the Brigade of Guards at the Trooping of the Colour in 1991 and is included on the album The Music of the Grenadier Guards (SRC 2006). The title of the work refers to a famous photograph of a young Princess Elizabeth wearing a Grenadier Cap at the time when she became Colonel of the Regiment in 1942. Alwyn also composed a setting of Queen Elizabeth I's poem Youth and Cupid for a royal gala performance at the Chichester Festival Theatre to commemorate HM The Queen’s Silver Jubilee in June 1977. He wrote the music and lyrics of a number of comic songs for singer Ian Wallace’s album Wallace's New Zoo,Reviewed in Gramophone magazine (June 1965, page 32) released in 1965, including The Gorilla, (re-released as part of The Best of Ian Wallace, EMI 1994) and he has written stories and poems for children.

Fletcher was in the original cast when she was nine, playing the role of Jemima Potts. She played her final performance as Scrumptious on 2 October 2016.
In 2014, the BTP produced the quintessentially British award-winning comedy Yes, Prime Minister by Sir Antony Jay CBE CVO and Jonathan Lynn. Based on the successful BBC television series by the same writers, the stage version had run for two years in London's West End in 2011 and 2012, followed by a successful tour in the UK in 2013. The play opened at Raffles Hotel's Jubilee Hall theatre on 8 May, followed by the Charity Gala Performance and Dinner on 9 May, lunch on 12 May at the Eden Hall, the visit of the Singaporean President HE Dr Tony Tan on 17 May, and the Cheque Presentation on 19 May. October 2013 saw the company’s most successful production with sell-out nights by audiences in both Singapore and Kuala Lumpur as well as great success in Bangkok. The play was the world’s longest running play, Agatha Christie’s The Mousetrap, and this production was part of the show’s worldwide celebrations of the Diamond Anniversary of the first performance in London 60 years ago and the continuous run since then. Joo Yeon Sir (born June 29, 1990 in Seoul), is a South Korean violinist residing in the UK. A former pupil at the Purcell School, Joo Yeon Sir is a Scholar at the Royal College of Music, London where she studies with Dr Felix Andrievsky. She has been a major prizewinner at national and international competitions in the UK and abroad and has performed as recitalist, chamber musician and soloist with orchestras at various venues including the Wigmore Hall, London Arts Club, St James's Palace in presence of Prince Charles, the Foundling Museum as part of New London Orchestra Young Performer's Concert Series supported by the MBF, and most recently at Fairfield Halls performing Vaughan Williams's The Lark Ascending. In 2006 at the age of sixteen, Sir became the Overall Grand Prix Laureate at Nedyalka Simeonova International Violin Competition in Haskovo, Bulgaria,é where her gala performance was broadcast on Radio Bulgaria (BNR). Sir is also recipient of Royal Philharmonic Society's Emily Anderson Prize Award 2007, MBF Music Education Award 2008 and the Second Prize at Windsor Festival International String Competition 2008, as youngest finalist.
