Shuttleworth was born in Mackay, Queensland. After 12 years' service in the Royal Australian Navy (RAN) in 1994 retired from active duty. In 1996 Shuttleworth moved back to Queensland, and in the time since, has married and raised his three children in the local area he represented. Born in Adelaide, South Australia, Scarfe gained qualifications from both the University of Melbourne and the Associated Teachers' Training College. After living in England for some time, she moved, with husband, Allan Scarfe, to India. Whereas the DLHE survey was undertaken by universities contacting their own graduates 6 months after graduation, the Graduate Outcomes survey is run centrally by HESA 15 months after graduation using contact details provided by universities and colleges. The survey was launched in December 2018 with a survey of graduates who gained qualifications in August to October 2017.

After graduating from ELTE Apáczai Csere János High School, she went to Eötvös Loránd University of Budapest, getting a law degree cum laude. After leaving Llwyn-y-Bryn Sue Powell-Reed began a course at Barry Teachers Training College. However Sue left after a short time and instead graduated as a Speech & Drama Teacher (LLAM)at the London Academy of Dramatic Arts, and also became an Associate (AVCM Hons) of The Victoria College of Music & Drama. Sue by now had gained qualifications as a Swimming, Speech and Drama instructor and launched her media career working for the South Wales Evening Post as a features writer and a contributor to local radio station Swansea Sound/The Wave.ITV Wales announcers profiles In 1980, Sue joined HTV Wales as a sports correspondent and was the first female TV sports correspondent in the UK.
