In 1907, at the age of 15, Rieve joined the American Federation of Hosiery Workers (AFHW), a semi- autonomous division of the United Textile Workers of America (UTW), an affiliate of the American Federation of Labor.Galenson, 1960. The division was also variously called the American Federation of Full-Fashioned Hosiery Workers and the Full-Fashioned Hosiery Workers Union. His rise in the union was meteoric: At the age of 22, he was elected a vice president of the AFHW, became the division's president in 1929 at the age of 35, and joined the national UTW executive board in 1934.

The building is two stories tall, and sits on a brownstone foundation. The 1932 building is a three-story, red brick building with a flat roof and brick parapet. The complex produced women's full- fashioned silk hosiery. It was occupied by textile manufacturers into the 1970s.

Garrou-Morganton Full-Fashioned Hosiery Mills, also known as Premier Hosiery Mills and Morgantown Hosiery Mills, is a historic hosiery mill complex located at Morganton, Burke County, North Carolina. The complex encompasses three contributing buildings and one contributing structure. They are the two Art Moderne style main buildings (1927-1929 and 1928-1939); Outlet Store (1924) and Water Tower Structure (c. 1939). It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1999.

A hobble skirt is a long, tight skirt, extending below the knees and often ankle length, which is so tight that it is difficult to walk in. When used as fetish clothing, it is often made of latex or PVC and sometimes corseted, to increase the restriction. Such skirts were briefly a mainstream fashion in the 1910s; however, they were soon abandoned as impractical.

The Carl Mackley Houses, also originally known as Juniata Park Housing, is a private apartment complex in the Juniata neighborhood of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Built in 1933–1934 as single-family apartments, it opened in 1935. The project was sponsored by the American Federation of Full-Fashioned Hosiery Workers, with financing by the Housing Division of the Public Works Administration, of which it was the first funded project. The complex was named for a striking hosiery worker killed by non-union workers during the H.C. Aberle Company strike in 1930.

In 1940, Golaski developed a process for rebuilding hosiery machines to enable the knitting industry to make the switch from silk to nylon. In 1945 he opened the Bearing Products Company and with the profits later in 1956 bought and reorganized the Overbrook Knitting Corporation in order to convert existing machinery to produce full fashioned knitted sweaters. He was granted 10 American, 1 British and 2 Canadian patents. Golaski is best known for the product he developed next, the densely knit Dacron arteries, which he sold through his company Golaski Laboratories.

Under the terms of the 1931 collective bargaining agreement between the Full Fashioned Hosiery Manufacturers of America and the American Federation of Hosiery Workers, he was appointed "impartial chairman" for the independent arbitration committee established by the contract. The position became a model for similar collective bargaining clauses nationwide. During his 10 years as impartial chairman, Taylor established a national minimum wage in the hosiery industry. In 1935, after a period of service to the federal government, Taylor become impartial chairman for a labor arbitration committee established by the Men's Clothing Manufacturers' Association and the Amalgamated Clothing Workers of America.

I worked with Corah firstly as a student from 1970 to 1973. At that time every week CORAH manufactured about 100,000 dozen pair of gents half hose, 7000 dozen full fashioned knitwear garments mostly ladies and about 4000 dozen cut and sew garments both gents and ladies. This amounted to approximately 100,000 kg of knitted goods, most of which went to M&S; stores in the UK. Corah lost its last link with the founding family in 1989 and in the same year it was sold to Australian corporate raider Charterhall and was broken up shortly afterwards after Charterhall crashed to a huge loss. By the 1990s the factory had closed.

The employers refused to recognize the union, and 10,000 workers went on strike. On August 10, 1933, the NLB mediated a settlement. Known as the "Reading Formula," the settlement consisted of four parts: (1) That the union call off the strike; (2) That all employees be rehired immediately, without retaliation; (3) That the NLB hold elections in which the workers would vote by secret ballot for their own representatives, and that both parties would negotiate a collective bargaining agreement covering wages, hours and working conditions; and (4) That in the event of any disagreement on any matter, the parties would submit the dispute to the NLB for binding arbitration.
