In the mid-1990s, Somby undertook a study of 27 Sami women who reported on their earlier experiences and their impressions of what life for the Sami peoples had been like a hundred years ago. Many of them had been persuaded to marry against their will while some told of how children had frozen to death on the way to school. As many of the stories were dramatic or violent, they remained as tape recordings for over 20 years. Only in 2017 did she decide to publish 12 of them.

He burns the corpse in the barn, sits down at the kitchen table and starts drinking. Rolfe's narration reveals that Wade eventually murdered Jack and left town (possibly to Canada, where Jack's truck was found three days later), never to return. Rolfe relates that the town later became part of a huge ski resort partly organized by Gordon Lariviere, but having nothing to do with either Jack or Twombley. Rolfe concludes that someday a vagrant resembling Wade might be found frozen to death, and that will be the end of the story.

The crew of the Enterprise responds to messages received from the SS Tsiolkovsky, a science vessel monitoring the collapse of a supergiant star. The messages suggest, amid their rounds of laughter, that the crew has been exposed to a sudden hull breach. After the Enterprise secures the Tsiolkovsky via tractor beam, an away team beams over and finds the crew frozen to death in various stages of undress—including one who was taking a shower fully clad. A woman's body, frozen, falls into Lt. La Forge's (LeVar Burton) hands.

Linda breaks Tim out of Orphan Services and collects the siblings, and Tim apologizes to Jane. He suggests that they find their parents in order for Orphan Services to leave them alone. Linda and the siblings enlist Melanoff’s help to construct a candy-fueled dirigible to travel to "Sveetzerlünd" (a parody of Switzerland), where their parents are scaling the “unclimbable Alps”. Taking flight without Linda, Melanoff, and Ruth, the siblings reach Sveetzerlünd. They follow a trail of their mother’s yarn to the top of the mountain, where they find their parents nearly frozen to death.

During flashbacks, Linda was being hazed while trying to join a sorority by the sorority leader Meg. Later, during a party, Linda is outside with an intoxicated Meg while she is attempting to use the bathroom in freezing temperatures and decides to leave her alone. The following morning, Meg is found frozen to death, and after Linda lies about being the last person to see her alive, she takes over as leader of the sorority. Back in the prison, she becomes attached to Big Boo for both protection and for sexual intercourse.

She was chained to her hands and feet and nails were hammered through her shoes to make it difficult for her to walk, which made her feet and legs swollen. She was put to wash clothes in a stone-kitchen so cold that her arms were covered with ice. She would have frozen to death if it were not for the daughters of the prince, Maria Cantemir and Smaragda; they bribed the guard to fold her chains in cloth, to prevent it from giving any sound, and take her up to their bedchamber at night.

Weatherley rejected claims in March 2013 that, as originator of the legislation, he was responsible for the death of a homeless man who had frozen to death while sleeping outside an empty bungalow. Chapter four begins with the death of Joaquín's close comrade and his lover's (Rosita's) brother, Reyes Feliz, who is pronounced dead in the newspaper. Feliz's love, Carmelita had wandered away in sorrow and was found frozen to death. Only a few days later, a Mexican who claimed to know a friend of Joaquín, warned of a band of armed Americans pursuing Joaquín and his gang. Joaquín, instead of fleeing, decides to surprise the group of Americans and a bloody battle ensues between forty-five of Joaquín's men and fifty Americans.

He leaves without waking the man, and the next morning returns to finds him sober and capable of explaining to him his new job as the base meteorology officer. Miles observes Ahn as he makes his daily weather forecast, but notices that the officer's forecast is less a matter of scientific calculation than practical experience. After an all-too-brief orientation to his new duties, Ahn departs, leaving Miles in charge. In short order, Miles experiences an almost fatal situation in which he is almost suffocated by mud and frozen to death.

After saving Makino from being frozen to death in the blizzard, Tsukushi asks him whether he remembers her or not. He replies that he still doesn't remember, but when he found out that Tsukushi could die, his body took over. Tsukasa finally remembers her as the "first girl he has ever fallen in love with" after developing a fever, as the circumstances were similar to their disastrous first date in season 1. He then proposes to her after her prom, with their friends and the rest of the Eitoku students cheering them on.

The village pub is the Risley Park formerly the Blue BallRisley Park on Derby Road Risley Manor originally belonged to the Mortimers. It passed to the Sheffields and then the Willoughbys and, in 1870, it belonged to J. L. Ffytche. The manor was held by Sir Hugh Willoughby, the navigator,Pigot's Commercial Directory of Derbyshire, 1828/9, accessed 5 May 2008 who sailed on 10 May 1553, with three ships, in search of the North-east passage, but was frozen to death with all his crew in the following January. It is now a country house hotel.

In 1940 the entire town of Friar, 572 people, abandoned their town and walked into the wilderness with only the clothes on their backs after a viewing of The Wizard of Oz, a film with which the entire town was obsessed. No one has ever been able to explain why they did this. Only 300 of the townspeople's bodies were recovered: some had frozen to death in the elements, while others were killed in horrific and bloody ways. The remaining 272 citizens were never found, and the government designated the trail that the townspeople took as classified.

In one, Amy and Rory are happily married but pursued by elderly people possessed by aliens, while in another they are on board the Doctor's time machine, the TARDIS, where they anticipate being frozen to death by a nearby astronomical phenomenon. They must decide which is the real reality and die in the dream, to wake up in reality and escape the trap. At the episode's conclusion, the Dream Lord is ultimately revealed to be a manifestation of the Doctor's dark side and self-loathing. Nye wrote the episode to explore and to test Amy's relationships with both the Doctor and Rory.

It was aboard Jane that Rodgers mastered the art of ship's command, the skills of which came readily to him. While in command of Jane, Rodgers' strong and determined character was made evident during one of his voyages navigating the North Sea. Adverse winter winds had carried the vessel off course, the ship's provisions were almost exhausted, and three of his crewmen had frozen to death in one night, while most of the others had lapsed into hopeless despair. When Rodgers ordered some of the crew to go aloft to secure the ice-encrusted rigging, they refused.

The USS Enterprise under the command of Captain Kirk arrives at the dying planet Psi 2000. Their mission is to observe and document the planet's breakup, and to retrieve a research team stationed on the planet. Mr. Spock and Lt (junior grade) Joe Tormolen beam down and find the researchers' life support system shut down and the team frozen to death—one fully clothed in a shower, one seated at a control console as if nothing was wrong, and one who was strangled. Tormolen removes his environmental suit glove to scratch his nose and comes in contact with a strange red liquid.

On February 16, 2011, Shapiro was found frozen to death in his home. His death certificate states the manner of death was an accident, “due to cold environmental temperatures.” An autopsy was done and determined the cause of death to be “atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease and psychiatric illness (type unspecified),” with no further details, although he apparently had a history of erratic behavior and severe psychiatric problems during the last years of his life and, as a result, had been hospitalized several times. At the time his body was discovered, there was no heat in his house and his phone had been turned off.

"Quarantine" is a political poem written by Irish poet Eavan Boland about the Irish famine of the mid 19th century, published in her 2001 poetry collection Code. It was one of 10 poems shortlisted for RTÉ's selection of Ireland's favourite poems of the last 100 years in 2015. The poem is about a couple who leave the workhouse during the worst year of the Irish famine while she was sick with famine fever (typhus). The next day they are found to have frozen to death, with her feet held against his chest as he tried to keep her warm.

In 1766, Rousseau had impressed Hume with his physical prowess by spending ten hours at night on the deck in severe weather during the journey by ship from Calais to Dover while Hume was confined to his bunk. "When all the seamen were almost frozen to death...he caught no harm...He is one of the most robust men I have ever known," Hume noted. The American historian James Perry noted: "Reading the old diaries and journals, it is almost as if these twelve thousand native servants and sepoy wives and children didn't exist individually. In a way, they really didn't. They would die, all of them-shot, stabbed, frozen to death-in these mountain passes, and no one bothered to write down the name of even one of them".

Cline announced in late February 2003 that the province would hold an inquiry into the death of Neil Stonechild, a seventeen-year-old aboriginal youth who was found frozen to death in 1990. They meet an itinerant carnival vendor who calls himself Ursus, and his pet wolf, Homo (whose name is a pun on the Latin saying "Homo homini lupus"). Gwynplaine's mouth has been mutilated into a perpetual grin; Ursus is initially horrified, then moved to pity, and he takes them in.

As the episode progressed, their condition deteriorated due to malnutrition and hypothermia. At the episode's end, a final shot showed the main characters had frozen to death. It was reasoned that the show's absurd humour and satire might have had more success on Canvas, the public network's cultural channel (Eén had shown programs with similar humour in the past, but had since become more family- oriented). Even though the series disappointed in audience shares in its original run, it has since gained popularity as a cult show, with the Internet providing more suitable audiences; on sites such as YouTube several sketches have had twice as many viewers as when aired on television.

His friends find him the next morning, frozen to death in the driving seat. The first suggestion is to bury Marcello in the garden, but on the advice of Philippe (who, being a judge, warns that there is a severe penalty for the illegal burying of a corpse), they place the body in the villa's cold room, where it remains seated and clearly visible from the kitchen. 500 men are reported to have frozen to death on 21 January 1643/4. On 25 January a sudden thaw caused a bridge to collapse over the River Weaver, splitting Royalist cavalry forces at the Battle of Nantwich resulting in their defeat. The 1557 Siege of Katsurayama in was fought between the forces of the Japanese daimyō Takeda Shingen and Uesugi Kenshin as part of the Kawanakajima campaigns. Katsurayama castle was a strategically vital Uesugi stronghold in the contested Shinano Province and, when it was isolated from reinforcements due to late snow in early 1557, the Takeda clan used this opportunity to seize it under Baba Nobuharu, shielded from view by heavy snowfall.

The four escape from prison amidst the chaos and attempt to make their way out in Han Zi'ang's truck, but the truck is requisitioned for an emergency mission by the military rescue team CN171-11 led by Wang Lei. They are to transport a Lighter Core (a fusion engine component) to restart the Earth Engine in Hangzhou. In the frozen wreckages of Shanghai, they lose their vehicle, and while transporting the component up the ruins of the Shanghai Tower, one of the soldiers is killed and Han Zi'ang is trapped and frozen to death. With news that the Hangzhou Engine was fully compromised and the city was completely destroyed by magma, the group is downcast.

Klaus Siebold lost his ministerial position because of the Energy Crisis that followed the exceptional winter weather in 1978/79. He had sanctioned maintenance shut downs of power plant in January 1979 at a time when sustained heavy snow falls imperiled East German power supplies. The pumps serving numerous district heating systems failed and families had to be evacuated from their frozen apartments. In cold barns young cattle were frozen to death, as were hens in their battery cages. Shortly before the snow storms, on 13/14 December 1978, at the 9th conference of the SED Central Committee, Siebold was on the receiving end of the conventional lavish praise, here from a candidate for Politburo membership called Werner Walde.

During a period of cold weather, a hitchhiker was found frozen to death in a southern Saskatchewan field near South Poplar, his skull apparently fractured by a blow to the head. A local doctor ruled it murder and sent the victim's remains to McGill's laboratory for further examination. When McGill examined the skull, however, she concluded that the man's bone structure had been weakened by an illness such as rickets. A truck driver admitted to drinking some alcohol with the hitchhiker, which had increased blood flow to the man's brain – and after his death, the below-freezing temperatures and position of the body had caused those fluids to expand, resulting in the apparent skull fracture.

Lake Vether is also mentioned in Samuel Johnson's essay for The Idler No. 96, on Hacho of Lapland.

As David thanks Regina for taking care of him, Regina in turn tells David the story of how she found him: After a night of work that was later than usual due to a misplaced phone, Regina found David on the side of the road, nearly frozen to death. After telling her story, Regina moves in to kiss David, but he rejects her, telling her things are great as is and thanks her again for dinner before leaving. Regina stares at the mirror in the hallway before smashing it by throwing her glass of wine at it, furious that her plan to seduce him failed. Later that night, Emma and August ride to a diner on the side of a road.

Throughout his years on the Hazelton police force, he became known as a man of common sense and integrity, often willing to apply practical solutions to a situation, rather than always going "by the book". He had a wheelbarrow in which he would haul the patrons of the local hotels who had imbibed too freely off to the Skookum House, (jail). Cline jokingly referred to his wheelbarrow as the "Hazelton Patrol Wagon". His earlier experience with mushing sled dogs would come in handy on many occasions, once he took a dog team 170 out of town to an isolated cabin along the Yukon Telegraph Line, to investigate the disappearance of a lineman who, as it turned out, had frozen to death.

On the following day the Allies launched an abortive counterattack. The 6th Red Army commander, Major General Aleksandr Samoilo, ordered his men to cease all offensive operations on the same day, citing shortages of warm gear and other necessities, the tenuous hold Commander Solodukhin (who had not captured every building) had on the village, and reports of troops in other sectors being frozen to death or frostbitten by bitter -30 °C (-22 °F) temperatures. In Pennsylvania, Frank falls through the skylight of a mall that had become covered in snow, and sacrifices himself by cutting his rope to prevent his friends from falling in after him. In the library, most survivors, as well as those from other structures, decide to head south once the floodwater outside freezes in spite of Sam's warnings, and are later found frozen to death by Jack and Jason; only a few survivors end up taking heed of Sam's advice to stay put, burning books to stay warm as the temperatures plunge. Laura develops blood poisoning from her injury, whereupon Sam, Brian, and JD scour a Russian cargo vessel that had drifted into the city for penicillin, fending off a pack of wolves which had escaped from Central Park Zoo. The eye of the North American storm arrives, freezing Manhattan solid, but Sam's group make it inside just in time.

Inside, Tom is stroked and pampered by his owner; outside, Jerry is angered by Tom's betrayal and wants revenge. Upon entering the house, Jerry sneaks past Tom and goes over to the woman's make-up table, where he applies face powder on his body to resemble a ghost mouse, his plan being to make it seem that he has frozen to death and come back from the dead to haunt Tom. Putting on a record of spooky music (to make Tom think that the record player has turned itself on with spooky music playing), Jerry turns off the lights (to make Tom think that the lights have turned off on their own) and chases the terrified Tom through the house. Tom cowardly hides under a pillow under a couch, and then tries to hide in the champagne cabinet but Jerry swings into the cabinet via string from the ceiling.

The disturbances caused by Oates' fabricated Popish plot, however, affected Godden very seriously. The informer and perjurer Miles Prance, (who was by trade a silversmith with close connections to the Court) who had been arrested and imprisoned on suspicion of complicity in the Plot, upon being examined about the murder of Sir Edmund Berry Godfrey, swore that Godden and his servant Lawrence Hill had been concerned in the crime, and that Godfrey's corpse had been concealed for a time in Godden's apartments. Prance could suggest no plausible motive for the crime, merely saying vaguely that Godden had taken the side of two Irish priests, Fr. Kelly and Fr. Fitzgerald, in a quarrel with Godfrey, and that the quarrel for no clear reason led to murder. Why Prance named Godden and Hill as the assassins has never been clear, but he had been seriously ill-treated in prison (he was put in chains, denied a fire and almost frozen to death) and threatened with torture.

Snyder became the driving force of CCNV but worked with many deeply committed people including his wife and professional partner, Carol Fennelly; Mary Ellen Hombs, with whom he co authored Homelessness in America: A Forced March to Nowhere; and Ed and Kathleen Guinan. He and CCNV pushed and prodded the District of Columbia, the local churches and temples and mosques, as well as the federal government to open space at night for homeless people, and worked to staff the space that was made available. Through demonstrations, public funerals for people who had frozen to death on DC streets, breaking into public buildings, and fasting, CCNV forced the creation of shelters in Washington and made homelessness a national and international issue. In the 1980s Snyder, Fennelly, and other CCNV activists entered and occupied an abandoned federal building at 425 2nd Street N.W. (now Mitch Snyder Place) and housed hundreds overnight while demanding that the government renovate the building.
