After early experience as first horn with the Hamilton Philharmonic as well as extensive experience free-lancing in Toronto, from 1972 to 1975 he was first horn with the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra in Germany. Since 1976 he has been principal solo horn in the Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra, with which he has recorded all the symphonic works of Mahler, Bruckner, Scriabin, Prokofiev, Tchaikovsky, and Berlioz. He also performs and records solo, and in chamber ensembles, conducts master classes, and freelances with other symphony orchestras around the world.

He also set up his own language school in Brighton. His work as a teacher trainer has included COTE (Certificate for Overseas Teachers of English), DOTE, CELTA, DELTA, FTBE (First Certificate for Teachers of Business English), graduate and post-graduate courses on four continents, as well as a stint from 2000 to 2001 with the Oxford University Press. Today he freelances as a writer, trainer and speaker at conferences, having given hundreds of sessions in English, Spanish, French and Portuguese and noted for his upbeat style and practical content. Seligson has also worked as a consultant in universities in Europe, North Africa, Asian and Latin America, along with observation programs in Spain, Turkey and Mexico.

They had no plans to make programmes themselves and would therefore have no use for a studio facility as large as the TVS base in Southampton. This would have left TVS with two studio complexes, the modern studios in Maidstone being their choice for a base as an independent production company. However, following TVS's franchise loss, the two companies negotiated the takeover of the studios by Meridian, ending in Meridian's purchase of the Northam studio complex. This also preserved a number of jobs originally not planned by Meridian. However, it still meant huge job losses: 100 of TVS's original workforce of 760 continued to work for Meridian, the others mainly working as freelances, many for independent companies.

Jacinta van Lint (born 27 March 1979) is an Australian freestyle swimmer who won a silver medal in the 4x200-metre freestyle relay at the 2000 Summer Olympics. Training at the Australian Institute of Sport,AIS at the Olympics van Lint swam in the heats, before the team of Susie O'Neill, Giaan Rooney, Kirsten Thomson and Petria Thomas trailed the United States team home in the final. Following the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games, van Lint completed a Bachelors in Arts and a Masters in International Studies at the University of Sydney, while competing and training with the University of Sydney club. In 2013 van Lint completed a Certificate IV in Photoimaging, and now freelances as a photographer in Sydney and internationally.

In the mid-1970s, he moved to Nantucket Island (his distant relatives were among the early settlers there), where an artists colony existed. He married Karol Marie Lindquist, a maker of the Nantucket Lightship Basket, in 1978, and attended the Clarion Workshop in Ann Arbor, Michigan in 1980 (and returned there as the assistant in 1981). He also began a career in oil painting then, which after a hiatus to try working as a fiction writer from 1988 to 1998 (he sold 60 or so stories and was a regular attendee at the Sycamore Hill Writer's Workshop), he resumed in 1998. Frazier freelances as a graphic designer, for a time designing books for SF publisher Mark V. Ziesing and was art director for Nantucket Magazine from 1995 - 2005.

Although the term freelancer is commonly attributed to Sir Walter Scott (1771–1832) in Ivanhoe (1820) to describe a "medieval mercenary warrior" or "free-lance" (indicating that the lance is not sworn to any lord's services, not that the lance is available free of charge), a previous appearance occurs in Thomas N. Brown in The Life and Times of Hugh Miller (1809), p. 185. It changed to a figurative noun around the 1860s and was recognized as a verb in 1903 by authorities in etymology such as the Oxford English Dictionary. Only in modern times has the term morphed from a noun (a freelance) into an adjective (a freelance journalist), a verb (a journalist who freelances) and an adverb (they worked freelance), as well as into the noun "freelancer".

Set in 1968 New York City in an alternate universe to the Dryco universe of the previous five iterations of the series, Going, Going, Gone nevertheless disposes of several of the series' characters in its closing chapters. Its protagonist is Walter Bullitt, an egocentric expert in psychoactive substances who freelances for various branches of the increasingly Nazi-influenced United States government spy apparatus. Though he passes for white, Bullitt is in fact of African-American descent in an USA where, as revealed in previous novels in the Dryco series, the American Civil War never took place. As a result, racial relations in this version of the USA have been much more fraught, with almost all full-blooded African Americans interned and used as slave labor during World War II before being disposed of, and by 1968 even black music has been culturally marginalized.
