The Dance Music Hall of Fame, created by veteran John Parker in 2003, was supposed to recognize the contributions of those, who have had a significant impact on the evolution and development of dance music, and celebrate the history and significance of the genre. An awards ceremony announcing the inductees in the event was to take place annually at a formal dinner event in New York, but due to financial differences among the Board members, the Dance Music Hall of Fame ceased operations after its second ceremony (in 2005).

The Scientific and Technical Awards are three different Honorary Awards that are given by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) during the annual Academy Awards season. The Awards have been presented since the 4th Academy Awards in November 1931, to recognize original developments resulting in significant improvements in motion picture production and exhibition. The Awards are presented at a formal dinner ceremony a couple weeks before the principal Academy Awards ceremony. These awards recognize significant milestones in the development of technology for motion pictures and are conferred by vote of the Academy Board of Governors.

Most undergraduates buy or borrow a gown in their first week at Cambridge for the purpose of matriculation, which is the formal ceremony of enrolment in the university. It is more common to buy a gown, especially at the more traditional colleges, as the number of occasions on which it is worn quickly repays the investment. In June 2008 Mary Starkey pleaded guilty to assaulting (although she was completely cleared later of any wrongdoing) one of her students at the institute, Lisa Kirkpatrick, in Denver District Court. The original incident occurred in January 2007 when Starkey was observed by several students to yell at Kirkpatrick as well as physically assault her. The reason given was that Starkey did not like Kirkpatrick's appearance, although according to several eyewitnesses in addition to a number of prior students, this type of behavior was common for Starkey during 'high stress' days at the school, such as graduation or formal dinner exercises. Sometime after the assault, students at the Institute confronted Starkey.

The Szent-Györgyi Prize for Progress in Cancer Research, established by National Foundation for Cancer Research (NFCR) and named in honor of Albert Szent-Györgyi, Nobel Laureate and co-founder of NFCR, has been awarded annually since 2006 to outstanding researchers whose scientific achievements have expanded the understanding of cancer and whose vision has moved cancer research in new directions. The Szent-Györgyi Prize honors researchers whose discoveries have made possible new approaches to preventing, diagnosing and/or treating cancer. A number of fan conventions were organized by Due South fans during the 1990s, the biggest and best-known of which was "RCW 139", so named after the license plate number that recurred throughout the series. A High Table takes place on Thursdays during term time; in which resident guests sit with the Senior Student, members of the Wardennial Team and a guest (usually an academic) from outside of the hall; preceding the three course meal is a sherry reception and following the meal is an evening of port, tea, coffee and a talk by the guest, both held in the Regents' Room. At each dinner students dress formally and wear their undergraduate gowns. Latin grace is said by the Warden and all hall residents stand as those on the High Table enter the dining hall. For the Christmas formal dinner all of the Hall Committee sit on the High Table then champagne and Christmas carols are enjoyed in the Common Room by all the students.

HEC has its origins in 1925, when Professor Howard Meek, who would later serve as the first Dean of the School of Hotel Administration, took a group of students to New York City to manage the Hotel Astor for a day. Upon returning to Ithaca, the students decided to hold the grand opening of "The Only Hotel for a Day" to demonstrate that hospitality management could be taught in an academic setting, and organized an extravagant formal dinner party for hospitality industry leaders. Lacking an event space of its own, the inaugural Hotel Ezra Cornell was held on May 7, 1926 in Risley Hall on Cornell's campus. The second year of HEC was a turning point in the history of Cornell's hospitality program, and featured one of the world's leading hoteliers, Ellsworth Milton Statler, as a guest of honor to assess the quality of Cornell's nascent hospitality program.

During some time before December 2016, Muller Maldonado proposed to Vázquez Nieves during a formal dinner at the La Concha's Perla Restaurant in Condado. CBU's Campus Activities office hosts a range of annual social and recreational events, including: Fortuna Bowl, an intramural flag football championship game with men's and women's teams on the campus front lawn in November; Midnight Madness, a high-energy event which kicks off the basketball season by introducing the men's and women's basketball teams to hundreds of cheering students packed into the events center. School spirit is raised with games and relays like the dunk contest and 3-point shootout, and free food and prizes for the fans; Yule, a formal dinner and night of entertainment at a premier Southern California venue where the year’s Mr. & Ms. CBU are revealed in early December; Late Night Breakfast, held during Finals Week of each semester, where school faculty and staff serve up breakfast to students; and TWIRP (The Woman Is Required to Pay), a week-long event where female students invite male students to fun activities and events throughout the week. Highlights of the week include: a Barn Dance, complete with a caller, square dancing, and costume contest, on- and off-campus events including concerts, Angels and Dodgers baseball games, and trips to Disneyland, Sky Zone and other Southern California excursions.
