He was adjutant and teacher at the riding school at Strömsholm Palace in 1919–1921. At the 1920 Summer Olympics he and his horse Yrsa were part of the Swedish equestrian team, which won the gold medal in the team eventing competition. They also won the silver medal in the individual eventing.

Joanni Perronet (19 October 1877 – 1 April 1950) was a French fencer. He competed at the 1896 Summer Olympics in Athens, winning a silver medal and 3 goats. Perronet was a fencing master, the only professional allowed to compete in the Olympic Games at the time. Two such masters, Perronet and Leonidas Pyrgos of Greece, competed in a special foil fencing event at the first modern Olympics.

Debax competed in the individual foil fencing event at the 1900 Summer Olympics. He progressed from the first round and quarter- finals to finish fourth in the final pool in which he won four bouts and lost three.

He was playing with a toy sword in a park when a stranger suggested to his parents that he take up fencing. Shortly afterwards his family moved to Park Slope, Brooklyn, New York City. Imboden joined the Fencer's Club in Manhattan, where he first met Jed Dupree and Dan Kellner, both of whom were foil fencing Olympians at the 2004 Summer Olympics. Thomas Bach was elected President of the IOC on 10 September 2013, as the successor to Jacques Rogge, at the 125th IOC Session in Buenos Aires. Bach is the first Olympic medallist to have risen to the position of IOC president – he won a gold medal in men's team foil fencing at the 1976 Summer Olympics. He is the third IOC President to have been an Olympian (Brundage and Rogge were also former Olympic athletes).

On 19 July 1982, in the middle of his career, Matthias Behr, and foil fencing in general, became widely known outside of those interested in the sport, due to a deadly accident at the world championship in Rome, when Behr's blade broke and fatally injured the most successful foil fencer of the time and incumbent world champion, Vladimir Smirnov, in the head. Matthias Behr was one of the close confidants of Emil Beck, and became his successor as team leader of the National German Fencing Team.

Mary Meijer-van der Sluis (11 July 1917 - 31 January 1994) was a Dutch fencer and singer. She competed in the women's individual foil event at the 1948 Summer Olympics. Born Mary van der Sluis to a Jewish family in Rotterdam, she married Mozes Meijer in 1940 there three months after the German bombing of that city. Though before the war she had fenced competitively, becoming Dutch champion foil fencing in 1937, she primarily focused on performing and teaching singing until at least the 1950s.

Muriel (Bower) Taitt is an American foilist, coach, and educator. She is author of the foilist's classic textbook Foil Fencing, now in its 8th edition. In the second edition (1972), former F.I.E. President Miguel de Capriles identified her as "a sensational teen-age Pacific Coast champion before the war [who subsequently] returned to competition to win a well-earned No. 3 national rating. She is one of the small but bright cluster of California women who dominated the national fencing scene in those years".

Kosmala at the 469x469px 300x300px Kosmala was introduced to wheelchair sport by a patient at the Royal Adelaide Hospital, a few months before starting work at the Adelaide Botanic Garden. She first competed nationally at the 1966 National Wheelchair Games in Brisbane. She competed in foil fencing, swimming, wheelchair racing, field events, and archery. In a 2011 interview, she said that the organiser who picked the team for the 1968 Tel Aviv Paralympics forgot to include her, so she worked as a secretary at the games instead.

Anja Fichtel attended the Kaufmännische Schule Tauberbischofsheim75 Jahre Kaufmännische Schule Tauberbischofsheim, StieberDruck GmbH, 113 Seiten, TBB 1997, S.49 and fought for the Fencing-Club Tauberbischofsheim. Fichtel is remembered not just for her many victories, but also for her uncompromised vigorous fencing style. As Elena Grishina, the noted Soviet fencer, recalls: In 1990, she won the "Russian Cup," an international tournament in foil fencing for women held in Moscow, where the highest award was reserved for the foil fencer who did not lose a single bout. A year later, she again won the same cup.

Abouelkassem's international career began in 2008, when he captured a gold medal in foil fencing at the African Junior Championships and bronze at the World Junior Fencing Championships in Italy, in addition to one third- place finish at the Junior Fencing World Cup. At the 2009 Junior Fencing World Cup he earned another third place win and followed up with gold one year later at the 2010 World Junior Fencing Championships. He earned his first World Cup medal as a senior, bronze, at the 2011 Fleuret de St-Petersbourg, and captured gold at the 2011 Pan Arab Games in the individual and team foil events. Abouelkassem qualified for the 2012 Summer Olympics and entered the individual foil event in the round of 32, defeating American Miles Chamley-Watson 15-10.

She won two gold medals in archery and foil fencing, a silver medal in the pentathlon, and four bronze medals in swimming and wheelchair racing events at the 1970 Commonwealth Paraplegic Games in Edinburgh, in her first international event. She initially had to raise all her own money for the games, but after a radio interview and a newspaper article about her plight, John Eustice Motors gave her a cheque with all the money required for the games. At the 1972 Heidelberg Paralympics, she won a bronze medal in swimming in the Women's 3x50 m Medley Relay 2–4 event, and participated in other swimming and athletics events. She was introduced to rifle shooting in the early 1970s, and consistently hit the target on her first try at the sport.

Vio is a champion wheelchair fencer. She uses a special prosthetics to hold her foil, fencing from the shoulder. Under the coaching of Federica Berton and Alice Esposito she took part in her first wheelchair fencing competition in 2010. Her experience inspired her parents to found the non-profit organization Art4sport Onlus, which promotes sport for amputee young people. The 2012 Summer Paralympics were too early in her career for her to take part, but she was chosen a torchbearer for the opening ceremony after an online campaign where more than 1,000 people emailed the International Paralympic Committee to support her candidacy. In the same year, at the age of 15, she joined the Italian wheelchair fencing team. In 2013, she won her first World Cup in Montreal after she defeated Olympic silver medallist Gyöngyi Dani. For this performance she was named paralympic athlete of the month by the International Paralympic Committee.
