The airfield served as an alternative destination for Imperial Airways when Croydon was fogbound. The runway was just long enough for this purpose. Using Penshurst as an alternate destination caused delays to the passengers as there were no Customs facilities. On 18 February 1932, both Croydon and Penshurst were fogbound, and Handley Page H.P.45 G-AAXE Hengist diverted to Heston Aerodrome. As Customs facilities existed there, passengers were on their way in 10 minutes, as opposed to the three hour or longer delay when using Penshurst. The practice of having a Customs Officer attend Penshurst on a daily basis was instigated, but it was discontinued in February 1935. On 24 October 1932, a German and a French airliner diverted to Penshurst due to smog over London. By 1933, Penshurst was being operated by Air Travel Ltd, who were agents for Brooklands Airways. In 1935, Air Travel Ltd were employing 25 staff. On 1 March, 15 aircraft and 26 engines were being worked upon.

Midvinter is a black metal band from Sweden founded in 1993 by members of Apollgon, Fogbound and Melek Taus. The band released one demo entitled Midvinternatt in 1994, and later released their debut full length studio album At the Sight of the Apocalypse Dragon in 1997. The album was produced by King Diamond guitarist Andy La Rocque. Soon after the album's release the band broke up although they have since reformed with founding member Damien Midvinter (ex-Apollgon, ex-De Infernali) being the only original member.

After capturing a Spanish ship heading for Manila, Drake turned north, hoping to meet another Spanish treasure ship coming south on its return from Manila to Acapulco. He failed in that regard, but staked an English claim somewhere on the northern California coast. Although the ship's log and other records were lost, the officially accepted location is now called Drakes Bay, on Point Reyes south of Cape Mendocino. By the 18th century, it was understood that a less northerly track was sufficient when nearing the North American coast, and galleon navigators steered well clear of the rocky and often fogbound northern and central California coast.

Its first fifteen B-47s departed March Air Force Base in California on 3 December, but on arrival at Limestone Air Force Base they found that RAF Upper Heyford was fogbound. They remained there until 11 December, when eight flew on to the UK. Five managed to land at RAF Upper Heyford. The other three had to divert to RAF Mildenhall or RAF Brize Norton. That day the remaining 30 aircraft arrived at Limestone, where they were again delayed by fog at RAF Upper Heyford. Twenty of the 37 aircraft prepared to fly to the UK on 19 December, but suffered icing, and the lone de-icing truck was able to de-ice only five in time.

The Electronic Warfare (EW) Skyknight was a valuable Electronic countermeasure (ECM) asset to jam the SA-2 surface-to-air missiles (SAM) tracking and guidance systems. VMCJ-1 made history when its EF-10Bs conducted the first USMC airborne radar jamming mission on 29 April 1965 to support a USAF strike mission. Four EF-10Bs also supported a massive strike on the SAM sites near Hanoi on 27 July 1965. Many U.S. aircraft were lost to SA-2s in Vietnam and the electronic attack on the associated radar systems was known as "Fogbound" missions. The F3D also dropped chaff over the radar sites. The first EF-10B lost in Vietnam was to an SA-2 on 18 March 1966, while four more EF-10Bs were lost in Vietnam to accidents and unknown causes.

Other news is the inauguration of Franklin Delano Roosevelt as President on March 4, 1933 (although Mammy Yokam thinks the President is Teddy Roosevelt) and a picture of Germany's "new leader" Adolf Hitler who claims to love peace while reviewing 20,000 new planes (April 21, 1933); Mammy doesn't trust Hitler but Li'l Abner and Pappy think Hitler is a fine feller — since Senator Fogbound (Phogbound) says so!
