The Yawkyawk is a female creature originating in the mythology of the Kunwinjku people of Western Arnhem Land, Northern Territory, Australia. It is also known as ngal-kunburriyaymi. It is a creature similar to the typical mermaid in appearance, and has seaweed for hair. Seaweed that floats up to the water's surface is said, by Aboriginal people, to come from the head of a Yawkyawk.

The scene is reminiscent of "Wolfie" from Red Hot Riding Hood (1943), a Tex Avery-created character defined by his exaggerated wolf whistle. Throughout the film, there is a sub-plot of whether there will be a romance between Lola and Bugs. The sub-plot concludes with a conventional resolution.

The song's music video (directed by Peter Christopherson) begins with an RV driving through a desert, and a man comes out spotting a giant clear cube, in which the band is performing the song inside of. A man comes out and calls on his radio and soon more people in RVs come and set up camp to watch the concert. During the guitar solo, several of the campers jump inside the cube and do some crowd surfing. At the end of the video, the cube floats up in the air and explodes.

The plant manager, noticing that someone had gotten into the reservoir, realizes that if the plant is bombed while it is operating, the damage would put the plant out of operation for months, but a bomb when the plant is shut down would only cause minor damage, chooses to shut the plant down, causing a major power shortage. Georgio's corpse floats up after the turbines stop, essentially confirming the manager's concern. This shut down, however, causes a major blackout throughout the region.

The film was made to be shown in high school physics courses and humor is employed both to hold students' interest and to demonstrate the concepts being discussed. In the film, University of Toronto physics professors Patterson Hume and Donald Ivey explain the distinction between inertial and noninertial frames of reference, while demonstrating these concepts through humorous camera tricks. For example, the film opens with Dr. Hume, who appears to be upside down, accusing Dr. Ivey of being upside down. Only when the pair flip a coin and it floats up does it become obvious that Dr. Ivey -- and the camera -- are indeed inverted.

TCM's Jeff Stafford observes that this film “was ahead of its time in presenting single women as successful entrepreneurs in a business traditionally run by men.” The themes of the film, to the modern eye, deal with very important issues—passing, the role of skin color in the black community and tensions between its light-skinned and dark- skinned members, the role of black servants in white families, and maternal affection. Some scenes seem to have been filmed to highlight the fundamental unfairness of Delilah's social position—for example, while living in Bea's fabulous NYC mansion, Delilah descends down the shadowy stairs to the basement where her rooms are. Bea, dressed in the height of fashion, floats up the stairs to her rooms, whose luxury was built from the success of Delilah's recipe.

Once in Pooh's house, Pooh falls asleep, and magically floats up into the sky, as the room blackens and is lit up by fibre optics (Pooh's floating is achieved with the Pepper's ghost illusion). The ride vehicles then move into a strange room as Pooh floats through. There are honey pots with eyes and mouths, while giant Woozles with jack-in-the-box necks move in front of the guests. The ride moves round some very strange objects: a purple Woozle lights a Heffalump, causing a giant smoke ring to come from its trunk (in both the Hong Kong and Shanghai Disneyland versions, it was replaced with a heffabee taking a picture of a tan Heffalump in a green uniform), and a giant Heffalump has holes that reveal the way out of the Heffalumps and Woozles scene.
