A flight bag can refer to any baggage taken on board a flight, but usually refers to a specific type of document bag carried by pilots and flight crews. Often adorned with an airline logo, at one time the flight bag was a chic fashion accessory. Items commonly found in pilots' flight bags include: operating manuals for the aircraft being flown, operations manuals for the flight crew, aeronautical and navigational charts (usually Jeppesen chart binders or "Jepps", a Route Manual, flight checklists, logbooks and weather information), pilot's documentation and licenses (such as their passport, pilot's license, Aviation English license, class-specific medical certificate), and equipment or accessories (such as a calculator, pens, sunglasses, radio headphones or binoculars). Recent advances in technology and miniaturization have seen the development and deployment of electronic flight bags (EFBs), which contain electronic manuals and documents, as well as automated calculation and navigation tools.

A life jacket from Kure Beach, found with parts of a flight bag embedded in it, tested positive for nitrate residue. A black "crusty" residue on Frank's right hand was found to be manganese dioxide, a substance found in dry cell batteries. Mk6 makes its first flight, June 2014 A programme to upgrade 46 Chinook Mk2/2A and Mk3 helicopters was initiated in December 2008. Called Project Julius, it includes new digital flight deck avionics based on the Thales TopDeck avionics suite, comprising new multifunction displays, a digital moving map display and an electronic flight bag, installation of a nose-mounted FLIR detector, and upgrading the engines to the more powerful T55-714 standard. Upgraded Mk2/2A and Mk3 aircraft will be redesignated Mk4 and Mk5 respectively. Deliveries are expected to commence in 2011.

In avionics, ARINC 828 defines electronic flight bag (EFB) interfaces used in all types of aircraft. ARINC 828 specifies connectors, interwiring and signal types using MIL-DTL-38999 connectors which can be used to connect EFBs of all hardware classes with aircraft. ARINC 828 combines classical aircraft interfaces like discretes, ARINC 429 or ARINC 717 buses with PC technology like Universal Serial Bus (USB), Digital Visual Interface (DVI), low-voltage differential signaling (LVDS) and Ethernet. ARINC 828 was first adopted by the Airlines Electronic Engineering Committee (AEEC) in September 2007.

Soon after moving to Moseley, Keenan formed a musical duo called Hayward Winters, and subsequently met James Cargill at a 1960s psychedelic revival club. The two of them formed a relationship over their shared interest and formed a folk band, Pan Am Flight Bag. The band was short-lived only performing two gigs before they reformed in 1996 as Broadcast, which included guitarist Tim Felton, drummer Steve Perkins, and keyboardist Roj Stevens.
