Location of the alula on a bird's wing The alula , or bastard wing, (plural alulae) is a small projection on the anterior edge of the wing of modern birds and a few non-avian dinosaurs. The word is Latin and means "winglet"; it is the diminutive of ala, meaning "wing". The alula is the freely moving first digit, a bird's "thumb", and typically bears three to five small flight feathers, with the exact number depending on the species. There also are minor covert feathers overlying the flight feathers.
Restoration of D. torosus Daspletosaurus shared the same body form as other tyrannosaurids, with a short, S-shaped neck supporting the massive skull. Long Island, meanwhile, lobbied to extend I-495 east over NY 495\. Note that this depends on being allowed to include as many trailing zeros as suit, without them adding any further information about the other present digits. These different morphological features indicate a significantly deviated post cranial anatomy from other anomodonts, suggesting that Suminia adopted an arboreal lifestyle (see below).

U.S. Routes 11, 51, 65, 80, 90, and 278 do not have corresponding state highways, but most of them have at least one aborted alignment. Highway 245 in Okolona and Crawford is the only three-digit Mississippi Highway to begin with a 2.
Like sauropods, its forelimbs were much longer relative to its hind legs than earlier animals, while the metatarsus was shortened. The discovery of Benford's law goes back to 1881, when the Canadian-American astronomer Simon Newcomb noticed that in logarithm tables the earlier pages (that started with 1) were much more worn than the other pages. (subscription required) Newcomb's published result is the first known instance of this observation and includes a distribution on the second digit, as well. Newcomb proposed a law that the probability of a single number N being the first digit of a number was equal to log(N + 1) − log(N). The phenomenon was again noted in 1938 by the physicist Frank Benford, who tested it on data from 20 different domains and was credited for it.

Embryologists and some paleontologists who oppose the bird-dinosaur link have long numbered the digits of birds II- III-IV on the basis of multiple studies of the development in the egg. In Serbia, they mainly began with 1, 2 or 3, in Croatia 4 or 5, in Slovenia 6, Bosnia 7, in Montenegro 8 and in Macedonia 9. On 1 October 1993, the +38 code was broken up and the first digit of each area code integrated into each country's new country code (for example, Macedonia's (now North Macedonia) country code became +389). As part of the New Works Programme of 1935–1940, there were plans to operate nine-car trains of 1938 stock on the Northern line. In the US Highway system, three-digit numbers are assigned to spurs of one or two-digit routes. US 201, for example, splits from US 1 at Brunswick, Maine, and runs north to Canada. Not all spurs travel in the same direction as their "parents"; some are connected to their parents only by other spurs, or not at all, instead only traveling near their parents, Also, a spur may travel in different cardinal directions than its parent, such as US 522, which is a north–south route, unlike its parent US 22, which is east–west. In 1943 when military calls had priority, a cross-country US call might take as long as 2 hours to request and schedule in cities that used manual switchboards for toll calls. On March 10, 1891, Almon Brown Strowger, an undertaker in Kansas City, Missouri, patented the stepping switch, a device which led to the automation of telephone circuit switching. While there were many extensions and adaptations of this initial patent, the one best known consists of 10 levels or banks, each having 10 contacts arranged in a semicircle. When used with a rotary telephone dial, each pair of digits caused the shaft of the central contact "hand" of the stepping switch to first step (ratchet) up one level for each pulse in the first digit and then to swing horizontally in a contact row with one small rotation for each pulse in the next digit.

All of these features suggest that members of this family feed on vegetation, as well as pre-processing it within their mouths to begin the breakdown of cellulose and lignin. This is perhaps even more so true for therizinosaurids, which seem to have further exploited these characters.
