In the 1920s, Walter Stanley Stiles, a young physicist at the National Physical Laboratory in Teddington, England, examined the effects of street lighting and headlight features on automobile traffic accidents, which were becoming increasingly prevalent at the time. Stiles, along with his fellow National Physical Laboratory researcher Brian Hewson Crawford, set out to measure the effect of light intensity on pupil size. They constructed an apparatus where two independently controlled beams, both emitted by the same light source, entered the eye: a narrow beam through the center of the pupil, and a wider beam filling the whole pupil. The two beams alternated in time, and the subject was instructed to adjust the intensity of the wider beam until minimum flicker was observed, thus minimizing the difference in the visual stimulus between to the two beams.
Their performance was identical to their efforts in the last four tournaments as the team lost all three group games beginning with a 3–1 defeat to the Maldives, Tshering Dorji scoring for Bhutan after 20 minutes, and followed by two 3–0 losses to Afghanistan and Bangladesh to be eliminated from the competition. Prior to their last qualifying match, the national team visited Thailand where they played two back to back charity friendly matches against reigning Thai League T1 champions Buriram United. Although they were playing against a club side rather than a fellow national team, Bhutan were soundly beaten in both matches; firstly 6–0 and then 9–0 in a rematch the following day, with Buriram's new signing Weslley scoring five times across the two matches.
University of Otago law professor Dr Andrew Geddis said it was "legally impossible" under New Zealand law to deport Tarrant to Australia to serve his sentence. Other New Zealand politicians including Leader of the Opposition and National Party leader Judith Collins, fellow National MP Simon Bridges, Greens co-leader James Shaw, and ACT Party leader David Seymour welcomed Tarrant's life sentence. Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison also welcomed Tarrant's life sentence, saying Australians were horrified by Tarrant's "despicable act" and regarded New Zealand as "family". On 28 August, Morrison and the Australian Minister for Home Affairs Peter Dutton advised that while no formal request had been made by the New Zealand Government to repatriate Tarrant to Australia and for him to serve his life sentence in an Australian correctional facility, the Australian Government was open to considering a request.

For her television and film career, Ditchburn first worked on variety shows, including choreography for the Irish-Canadian band Ryan's Fancy on a 1973 episode of Singalong Jubilee, while her first on-screen appearance was on a December 1976 episode of the Peter Gzowski talk show 90 Minutes Live, where she performed a ballet routine with pianist Andre Gagnon.

On 18 June, Woodhouse alleged that a homeless man had bluffed his way into a two-week stay in a five-star hotel being used as a COVID-19 isolation facility by pretending to have newly returned from overseas. On 23 June, after Director-General of Health Ashley Bloomfield told media that an investigation had found no evidence to support Woodhouse's claims and that the alleged incident was likely to be "an urban myth," Woodhouse responded that he stood by his statements, saying "the absence of any evidence does not mean it did not occur." On 11 August, RNZ reported that official investigations had concluded that a man with no fixed abode had spent time in managed isolation, but had done so after returning from Australia, and hence had been present legitimately. On 10 July, Woodhouse admitted that he had received private patient information from former National Party President Michelle Boag in late June, which had led to Boag's resignation from the National Party and fellow National MP Hamish Walker being stripped of his portfolios.

Thuraisingam represented Soh Rui Yong, a national long distance runner, in a dispute with the Singapore National Olympic Council over the Council's nomination of a fellow national teammate, Ashley Liew, for the Pierre de Coubertin World Fair Play Trophy. He was also tasked to petition the President of the Republic of Singapore to grant clemency to Malaysian, Pannir Selvam Pranthanam who had been sentenced to death by the Singapore Court for drug trafficking. He acted on a pro bono basis to petition the President of Singapore as well as to appeal to the Attorney-General's Chambers for a certificate of substantive assistance to be issued to Pannir which would enable the Singapore Court to commute his sentence from death by hanging to life imprisonment instead. On 8 May 1933 a mass-trial of 22 "revolutionary workers" opened before a session of the special court in Altona. Although it was not formally a murder trial, it was understood that the hearing proceeded from the fact that two of the eighteen people killed during the "Bloody Sunday" fighting had been Sturmabteilung (SA) paramilitaries, shot dead, according to a communist source, by fellow National Socialist fighters or, perhaps, by policemen attending the incident on the instructions of Mayor Otto Eggerstedt. (Otto Eggerstedt, as a member of the Social Democratic Party, was himself arrested on 27 May 1933, a week before the conclusion of the trial, on suspicion of having breached of the government's new Press Law.) It was alleged in court that a member of the security services had found a hand-drafted sketch at August Lütgens' apartment of a section of the street outside the house in Altona where Lütgens was living at the time with his girlfriend. The sketch was presented as evidence that Lütgens had been the individual principally responsible for organising a sniper attack during the "Bloody Sunday" fighting on the streets of Altona.
After starting his career at Rosslyn Park, Hallett moved to fellow National 2 side, Bracknell, mid-way through the 2002-03 season in order to gain first team rugby. It was at Bracknell that he came to prominence, enjoying an outstanding 2003-04 season which saw him come 3rd top scorer in the division with 239 points helping his side to a very respectable 7th-place finish. Despite starting the 2004-05 season with Bracknell, after just 4 games Hallett decided to join divisional rivals, Esher. It proved to be the correct decision as by the end of the season Bracknell were relegated while Esher (just) managed to stay up, with Hallett's kicking contributing greatly to his new club's survival. The period between 2005-07 was Halletts best at Esher, finishing as the divisions top scorer twice (with 302 and 398 points respectively) and culminating in the Surrey club winning the league title and promotion at the end of the 2006-07 campaign. He helped the club survive several years in tier 2 but a change to the divisional structure at the end of the 2008-09 season involving the creation of the RFU Championship meant that Esher were relegated back to tier 3 despite finishing in 12th spot.
