Croatian historian Vladimir Košćak (1921–1991) believed that the Narentines were under Croat rule from Trpimir until Domagoj (d. 876), and that after the latter's death, they sent emissaries to Basil I and recognized his rule, which was however short- lived as spanning only to the fall of Byzantine protégé Zdeslav (879) when the Narentines again fell away from Byzantium; Košćak wanted to reduce Byzantine rule also to the south of Pagania, claiming that the provinces of Pagania, Zachumlia, Travunia and Duklja again came under Croat rule during Branimir (r. 879–892). This theory was criticized by the Serbian academic Institute for Byzantine Studies. Serbian historiography in the 19th and 20th century considered the Narentines to be Serbs.

Earthquake bracing used in the building's second through fifth floors consisted of shear walls, but a rarely used slip joint technique used with the concrete walls at the first floor kept them from being part of that system. Damage to the building, including ceiling tiles, telephone equipment, and elevator doors, was excessive at the basement and the first floor, with little damage further up. The difference in rigidity at the second floor was proposed as a cause of the considerable damage to the lower levels. Because the first floor almost collapsed, the building was leaning to the north by almost two feet, and three of the four concrete stair towers fell away from the main building.

During the economic reforms of the 1990s, as the region partially fell away from the economic sphere of Russia, Eastern Europeans suffered financially with, at first, growing costs and less disposable income. In the 21st-century, the process of EU enlargement has occasionally exposed cultural differences in between Western and Eastern Europeans, with the Soviet history of the region influencing the latter's political worldviews. In 2019, a Pew Research Center survey found that between 58 and 65 percent of Eastern Europeans felt positively about living standards, education and national pride in the post-Communist era. In the same year, it was reported that the group were living close to ten years longer on average, since 1990, with longevity recorded as much as 10 percent higher for some.

Born on August 4, 1961 in Baltimore, MD, Verrecchio attended St. Joseph's Monastery School and Mount St. Joseph's High School in Baltimore, MD. before attending the University of Maryland from 1979-1981. Born and raised in the Catholic faith in an Italian American family of seven, he fell away from the practice of Catholicism at the age of nineteen after having attended twelve years of Catholic schooling. He returned to the faith of his childhood with renewed vigor some eighteen years later and embarked on a passionate effort to learn as much as possible about Catholicism. Largely self-taught in the field of Catholic theology, he began Scripture study at St. Francis Xavier in Hunt Valley, MD in 2001, where he served as a group study leader from 2002 to 2005.

According to the Book of Mormon, the terms "Nephites" and "Lamanites" actually lose their original significance pursuant to the visitation of Jesus Christ to the American continent after his resurrection; his coming ushered in a period of peace in which the two conflicting nations merged into one, in which "[t]here were no robbers, nor murderers, neither were there Lamanites, nor any manner of -ites; but they were in one, the children of Christ, and heirs to the kingdom of God." (). Later on in the narrative, as members of the unified nation fell away from the faith, the term "Lamanite" comes to signify wickedness rather than blood heritage, whereas "Nephite" came to signify a follower of Christ; both terms alluded to the previous nations' predominant moral tendencies. Eventually, however, even the righteous "Nephites" grew proud and fell into wickedness more severe than that of those termed Lamanites.

The roadway itself was twenty feet wide with a steeply cambered surface of hard packed gravel. With little maintenance from the end of the Roman era in AD 410 to the building of a turnpike in 1768, the embankment and road surface were worn down and the road fell away from its straight alignment on hills, including Tasburgh Hill. Where the road follows its original course in the north of the parish we can imagine couriers of the Imperial Post galloping by, smart mule carts, merchant's pack horses, lumbering farm wagons delaying other traffic and weary pedestrians; all using the road for many of the same reasons that we do today. The possible sites of Roman farmhouses are indicated by scatters of tile fragments at three locations. Excavations in the eastern end of the churchyard in 1975 and in 1979/80 produced 3421b of Roman tile pieces and two sherds of Romano-British pottery (Point X on Map).

The first is the disintegration of the Russian Empire as a result of the February and October revolutions in 1917–1921. Active disintegration processes began in the economy, social structure, public and political spheres of the Russian Empire, which ultimately led to the end of the Tsarist regime and became parts of independent states as Poland, Finland and Romania. The second is the dissolution of the Soviet Union in 1990–1991 which led to the independence of the 15 republics of the USSR (Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Moldova, Belarus, Ukraine, Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan and Tajikistan).
