As a physical entity, Potsdamer Platz began as a few country roads and rough tracks fanning out from the Potsdam Gate. Following 1950s site planning principles, the school includes five classroom blocks that all contribute to the general concept of splayed, long, narrow buildings linked around open ended courtyard assembly and play spaces, fanning out from the administration block.
