A trick play variant of the screen pass involves an offensive tackle. The tackle must back up so that their hands are even with or behind the passer's and receives a lateral or backward pass. In a further evolution of trickery, the pass can be bounced (since any backward pass is a live ball) to fool the defense into thinking it is an incomplete forward pass; this trick can be achieved with either the offensive tackle or an eligible receiver. In turn, because a backward pass is a live ball even after hitting the ground, it increases the risk of a turnover if the intended receiver fails to catch the ball.
Their adaptations have been characterized as an evolutionary arms race, an example of the coevolution of two species. In a gene centered view of evolution, the genes of predator and prey can be thought of as competing for the prey's body. However, the "life- dinner" principle of Dawkins and Krebs predicts that this arms race is asymmetric: if a predator fails to catch its prey, it loses its dinner, while if it succeeds, the prey loses its life. Eastern coral snake, itself a predator, is venomous enough to kill predators that attack it, so when they avoid it, this behaviour must be inherited, not learnt.

He intercepts a drug shipment and informs his childhood friend and love interest, Rachel Dawes, providing her with enough evidence to enlist Sergeant James Gordon, one of Gotham's few honest cops, to arrest Falcone. Later, Bruce is informed by Lucius of the theft of a microwave emitter from Wayne Enterprises and pursues the robbers in the Tumbler, but fails to catch them due to using a decoy. Meanwhile, looking to learn more about the drug shipment and Falcone's associates, Batman tracks down Gordon's crooked partner, Arnold Flass, and intimidates him under the threat of leaving him to be murdered by Victor Zsasz, a psychotic serial killer and one of Falcone's enforcers, whom Flass was interrogating for information on Falcone's new 'partner'. Flass reveals that Falcone was also shipping some chemicals to Arkham Asylum psychiatrist Jonathan Crane, which he used to create large quantities of his signature fear gas, and informs Batman of the shipment's location.
