It had a black facial mask and partially white tail feathers, but the colouration of the body, wings and head in the living bird is unclear. In the Mask Stone's case, it was discovered beneath Aarhus Mill in 1850, where the city park Mølleparken ("The Mill Park") now exists.

This inscription has runic text in the younger futhark within a band that circles an image of Thor's hammer which is supported by two serpents.
