Siam's subsequent plan to extend its conquests to the southern territory of Perak failed after Perak defeated the Siamese forces with the aid of mixed Bugis and Malay reinforcements from the Sultanate of Selangor. As an expression of gratitude to Selangor for assisting it to defeat Siam, Perak authorised Raja Hasan of Selangor to collect taxes and revenue in its territory. This power, however, was soon misused, causing conflict between the two sultanates.

"We Love You" is a song by British band Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark, released as the second single from their 1986 album, The Pacific Age. According to Q, the "brilliant" track is sung from the perspective of a working class citizen conscripted under a totalitarian regime, for which he feigns adoration. The "We love you" refrain was also designed to be interpreted as an expression of gratitude to the OMD listener base; the group's fanclub was invited to appear in the single's accompanying music video. In a retrospective review of "We Love You", AllMusic critic Dave Thompson wrote that the song "had all the makings of a smash [hit]", while praising its instrumentation and "splendidly anthemic chorus".

Nabpye (Hangul: 납폐; Hanja: 納幣) designates the bridegroom sending a box called a ham (Hangul: 함) to the bride's house the day before the wedding ceremony, covering wedding expenses. On 29 July 1913 The Times of London printed four letters Brontë had written to Constantin Héger after leaving Brussels in 1844. Written in French except for one postscript in English, the letters broke the prevailing image of Brontë as an angelic martyr to Christian and female duties that had been constructed by many biographers, beginning with Gaskell. The letters, which formed part of a larger and somewhat one- sided correspondence in which Héger frequently appears not to have replied, reveal that she had been in love with a married man, although they are complex and have been interpreted in numerous ways, including as an example of literary self-dramatisation and an expression of gratitude from a former pupil. In 1980 a commemorative plaque was unveiled at the Centre for Fine Arts, Brussels (BOZAR), on the site of the Madam Heger's school, in honour of Charlotte and Emily.

By 1908, the Massachusetts Volunteer Militia consisted of two brigades and some unattached units ("total strength, 6,524"), commanded by William H. Brigham and Governor Curtis Guild, Jr.. In April 1917, the General Court again reformed the militia, renaming it the Massachusetts State Guard due to the events of World War I. Anticipating a possible German invasion or other emergency and lacking the National Guard due to deployment, many states created and trained state guard units. After the Halifax Explosion in Nova Scotia in 1917, a medical detachment from the Massachusetts State Guard was among the first units to arrive and offer aid. As an expression of gratitude for the aid provided by the Boston Red Cross and the Massachusetts State Guard, the city of Halifax sent the city of Boston a Christmas tree, a gift which was revived in the form of an annual tradition conducted by the province of Nova Scotia in 1971 which continues to this day. During the 1918 flu pandemic, the Massachusetts State Guard operated nine hospitals to treat civilians.
