There is a Mid term Exeat which is a day longer. In addition, there are three floating exeats but these must be spent with parents.

Students wishing to be absent from college overnight during term time must obtain leave to do so from their tutors, and "terminal exeats" must be obtained before the end of term.

They compete in various challenges such as Swimming Sports and Cross Country Running. About 100 are full-time (3 week intervals between exeats) boarders, while the remaining 50 are day students. Lunch is provided for all students every day. The school is strong in many aspects.

Originally students stayed at Howqua for 1 semester only, now it is compulsory for them to stay the whole year.Girls return home once a term on exeats (3 to 5 days) and return home for term holidays, before departing for Howqua again. The concept of Howqua is to help girls develop emotionally and physically independent of their family in a world without constant technology. Mobile phones and laptops are banned from use at Howqua and internet access is also not allowed.

Cothill House is a full boarding school, meaning all of the 220 pupils there board full-time, and the only times they are allowed home are on organised weekends, exeats, half-terms and end-of-terms. Prince William and his brother Prince Harry were registered to attend Cothill, which was the choice of their father Charles, Prince of Wales,The Ladies' Home Journal, vol. 106 (1989), p. 171 but in the end they both attended a rival establishment, Ludgrove, instead.

Linton Hall Cadet, Linton Hall Military School Memories: One cadet's memoir, Arlington, VA.: Scrounge Press, 2014 Boarders and day students are taught together in school hours and in most cases continue beyond the school day to include sports, clubs and societies, or excursions. British boarding schools have three terms a year, approximately twelve weeks each, with a few days' half-term holiday during which students are expected to go home or at least away from school. There may be several exeats, or weekends, in each half of the term when students may go home or away (e.g. international students may stay with their appointed guardians, or with a host family).

Coco Chanel's nephew was a pupil, and the school blazer is said to have been the inspiration for the 1924 Chanel suit. Beaumont was easy of access from London, and, being where it was, rapidly developed an awareness of being the "Catholic Eton": a tag at the school was "Beaumont is what Eton was: a school for the sons of Catholic gentlemen" (similar claims have been made for the Oratory, Stonyhurst and Ampleforth). Although all the boys at Beaumont were boarders, the school's nearness to London meant that, unlike at Stonyhurst or Ampleforth, many parents could fetch boys away for weekends during term; the number of such "exeats" was limited. Prior to and during World War II, there were sufficient pupils to divide students into three separate Houses, Heathcote, Eccles and O'Hare, named after three previous Rectors.

Communal dinner at Gonville and Caius College Gonville and Caius College maintains many traditions, and is unusual in that it offers two seatings in Hall six nights a week. Typically attended by between 200–300 students, Hall consists of a three-course meal served after 18:00 (First Hall) or 19:15 (Formal Hall); Formal Hall requires a gown be worn, also seats Fellows at high table, and is preceded by the benediction: Benedic, Domine, nobis et donis tuis quae ex largitate tua sumus sumpturi; et concede ut, ab iis salubriter enutriti, tibi debitum obsequium praestare valeamus, per Jesum Christum dominum nostrum; mensae caelestis nos participes facias, Rex aeternae gloriae.'' As at most Oxbridge colleges, it is tradition that only the Fellows may walk on the grass. The college also enforces the system of "exeats", or official permissions to leave the college.
