The two teams met in the 2012–13 Championship play-off semi-finals, by virtue of Brighton finishing fourth and Palace finishing fifth in the league. Following an uneventful 0–0 draw between the teams at Selhurst Park, Crystal Palace won 2–0 away at Falmer Stadium and went on to gain promotion to the Premier League by defeating Watford 1–0 (after extra time) in the play-off final.

Wins over Max Hopp and Dimitri van den Bergh saw van de Pas play in the third round of the World Championship for the second successive year and, just like last year, he was unable to pick up a set in a 4–0 defeat this time to Michael Smith. At the UK Open, van de Pas began with victories over Mervyn King and Simon Whitlock before losing to Kyle Anderson 9–2 in the fifth round. In April, van de Pas lost 6–3 in the final of the third Players Championship to Michael van Gerwen, but exacted revenge 24 hours later as he won his first PDC Pro Tour title by coming back from 5–2 down to defeat van Gerwen 6–5 in the final of the fourth event. He took the ninth event too as he averaged 111 in whitewashing Joe Cullen 6–0.

Alpamysh The Book of Dede Korkut was the primary element of the Azerbaijani epic tradition in the Caucasus and Anatolia for several centuries: 11th-12th centuries. Concurrent to the Book of Dede Korkut was the so-called Epic of Köroğlu, which concerns the adventures of Rüşen Ali ("Köroğlu", or "son of the blind man") as he exacted revenge for the blinding of his father. The origins of this epic are somewhat more mysterious than those of the Book of Dede Korkut: many believe it to have arisen in Azerbaijan sometime between the 15th and 17th centuries; more reliable testimony,Belge, 374 though, seems to indicate that the story is nearly as old as that of the Book of Dede Korkut, dating from around the dawn of the 11th century. Complicating matters somewhat is the fact that Köroğlu is also the name of a poet of the aşık/ozan tradition.

As a result, on the May 18 episode of Raw, Ric Flair, an associate of Batista, announced that the Raw general manager, Vickie Guerrero, had decided that Orton was to face Batista in a steel cage match at Extreme Rules, once again defending his WWE Championship. Tommy Dreamer, who won the ECW Championship in a triple-threat match Another rivalry from the Raw brand was between John Cena and Big Show. At WWE's April pay-per-view, Backlash, Big Show interfered in Cena's Last Man Standing match against Edge and chokeslammed him though a spotlight, causing Cena to lose the match and the World Heavyweight Championship to Edge; Cena exacted revenge at Judgment Day with a pinfall victory over Big Show. Then, on the May 18 episode of Raw, it was announced Big Show would have a rematch with Cena at Extreme Rules in a submission match, which can only be won by a wrestler forcing their opponent to submit.

Whitlock could only win three of his first nine games to avoid relegation by just one point after week nine. Consecutive wins over Robert Thornton, Andy Hamilton and Michael van Gerwen followed to improve Whitlock's chances of securing a play-off spot, and he went into the final night needing wins from matches against Adrian Lewis and Raymond van Barneveld. However, he could only draw 6–6 with Lewis and lost 4–7 to van Barneveld to finish the season sixth in the table. Whitlock won his first tournament of 2013 at the fifth UK Open Qualifier. He came back from 1–5 down against Ian White in the quarter-finals to triumph 6–5, saw off Peter Wright 6–4 in the semis, before powering past world number two Michael van Gerwen 6–1 in the final. Van Gerwen exacted revenge in the final of the European Darts Open in Düsseldorf, Germany, by beating Whitlock 6–2 in the final.

Due to the close proximity of the campuses it was natural for a rivalry to develop. The Texas College of Mines played its first ever game against a collegiate opponent versus New Mexico A&M; on October 31, 1914 and with few exceptions, including during World War I and World War II, the teams would meet again every year. Following World War II the series resumed on an annual basis from 1946 until 2001, when UTEP's administration made the controversial decision to cancel their scheduled trip to Las Cruces in favor of scheduling an additional home contest against a Division I-AA opponent. The schools agreed to meet again in 2002 (a 49–14 NMSU win, their biggest blowout of the Miners since 1922), but did not play again until 2004 in El Paso when the Miners exacted revenge for their blowout loss two years prior with a 45–0 pasting of the Aggies, the most lopsided result in the series in 55 years.

Seven days later, Blackpool travelled to London to face Arsenal and drew 1–1, Mortensen adding to his season's tally. The Tangerines exacted revenge on arch-rivals Preston North End after their 2–0 victory back in October by beating them 4–0 at Bloomfield Road on 15 February. Dick and Mortensen scored two apiece. Blackpool's joy was short-lived, however: they lost 3–0 at Manchester United seven days later, and then by a single goal at home to Bolton Wanderers. For the fourth time this season, Blackpool strung four consecutive wins together, beginning on 8 March at Chelsea. Dick (two), Buchan and Mortensen were the Blackpool scorers in the 4–1 scoreline. They also beat Sheffield United at home 4–2 (Mortensen, Munro and another Dick double), Grimsby Town away, 3–2 (two from Mortensen and one from George McKnight), and Leeds United at home, 3–0, with the same scorers. On 4 April, Blackpool drew 1–1 with Everton at Goodison Park.

Prior to this though, Rasolo the brother of Uluilakeba 1, was banished to Nayau since Uluilakeba suspected him of having an affair with his wife and during this time Matawalu also brother to Uluilakeba 1, was in Bau but resided in Nayau with Rasolo. So when Lakebans looked for a leader, they looked to Nayau where the two brothers of Uluilakeba 1 were still residing with their uncle, Delailoa. Delailoa was the remaining son of Qoma (elder brother to Delaivugalei who was Niumataiwalu's father) that survived Niumataiwalu slaying all his brothers and father before he himself was slain in Ono. Niumataiwalu, realizing that there was only one close relative alive, Delailoa (since all his brothers and his father were slain by Qoma's children that Niumataiwalu had exacted revenge for), and prior to his slaying in Ono, called Delailoa and sent him to Nayau to retain his name and their position of Tui Nayau.

They exacted revenge over Roscommon in the quarter finals with a 0-14 to 1-06 victory. A late comeback, inspired by Derek Savage, gave Galway a three-point victory over Derry in the semi-final. Galway were in their 3rd All-Ireland final in 4 years, and Bergin was an influential player on their way to the final, scoring 0-09 along the way. In the final against Meath, who had annihilated reigning champions Kerry in the other semi-final, Galway outclassed the Meath team in some style, winning by 9 points, 0-17 to 0-08. Bergin contributed with 2 points, making up for his disappointment the previous year when he did not start in the Replay against Kerry. He finished as Galways 2nd top scorer that year behind Pádraic Joyce In 2002, Galway secured another Connacht title but lost to Kerry in the quarter finals. However, redemption arrived on the Under-21 scene for Bergin. He captained the team on their way to a 0-15 to 0-08 victory over a much fancied Dublin side.

The Turkish epic has its roots in the Central Asian epic tradition that gave rise to the Book of Dede Korkut; written in the Azerbaijani language – and recognizably similar to modern Istanbul Turkish – the form developed from the oral traditions of the Oghuz Turks (a branch of the Turkic peoples which migrated towards western Asia and eastern Europe through Transoxiana, beginning in the 9th century). The Book of Dede Korkut endured in the oral tradition of the Oghuz Turks after settling in Anatolia.. Austin often exacted revenge on McMahon, such as attacking McMahon with a bedpan while he was in the hospital, stealing a cement mixer and driving it into the arena, then filling up one of McMahon's Corvette cars with cement, driving a Zamboni to the ring before attacking McMahon leading to Austin's arrest once again, kidnapping Vince in a wheelchair, wheeling him down to the ring at gunpoint which ended up actually being a toy gun with a scroll that reads "Bang 3:16!" which frightened McMahon so much he urinated himself, or driving a beer truck to the ring and using a fire hose to spray Vince, Shane McMahon and The Rock with beer. Austin wrestled McMahon in 1999 at St. Valentine's Day Massacre in a steel cage, which he won when the debuting Big Show accidentally threw him through the cage wall, thus earning a world title shot at WrestleMania XV. Through the rivalry, McMahon founded two heel factions: The Corporation and The Corporate Ministry, using several wrestlers to face Austin, including The Rock, The Undertaker, Kane and Big Show.

Far to the north, General Joaquín Ibáñez Cuevas y de Valonga, Baron de Eroles ambushed a French battalion at a place on the coast southwest of Tarragona called Col de Balaguer. On 18 January, 4,000 Spanish troops, including 250 cavalry and two cannons, captured one battalion of the 121st Line Infantry Regiment. Out of about 850 troops, only the governor of the fortress of Tortosa, General of Brigade Jacques Mathurin Lafosse and 22 dragoons escaped the trap.Smith, p 374 General of Division Maurice Mathieu exacted revenge on Eroles less than a week later. In heavy fog, Eroles engaged what he thought was an enemy battalion on 24 January in the Battle of Altafulla. In fact, it was Mathieu's 8,000-strong division of six French and two German battalions. At the cost of a few casualties, the French crushed the outnumbered Spanish force, inflicting a loss of 2,000 killed, wounded, and captured as well as taking both cannons.Smith, p 375 On 20 January, Severoli laid siege to Peñiscola with his division of 3,000 men and six guns.

Three days later, the Seasiders returned from Bristol City pointless after a 3–0 reversal. Blackpool's stop- start season gained some consistency for the remainder of January, with three consecutive victories single-goal victories: at home to Burton Wanderers on 11 January (Parkinson), against Stockport County on 18 January, also at home (Parkinson), and at Newton Heath on the 25th (Anderson). February began with a 1–1 draw at home to Glossop North End, Edward Threlfall netting his only goal of the season for the hosts. On 8 February, Blackpool travelled to Doncaster Rovers, who exacted revenge for their 3–1 defeat back in October. Anderson, Parkinson and Anderton were on target for the visitors in their 4–3 loss. Lincoln City were the visitors to Bloomfield Road the following week, and Blackpool dispatched them with a 3–0 victory, Anderson (two) and Anderton finding the net. On 22 February, Blackpool suffered their heaviest defeat of the season, at eventual champions West Bromwich Albion. The match finished 7–2, with a double from Anderson for the visitors. Three more defeats followed — 3–1 at home to Woolwich Arsenal (Parkinson), 2–0 at Barnsley, and 1–0 at Leicester Fosse.

The majority of the ties were played two weeks later. Defending champions Vale of Leven were handed a tough draw away to rivals Dumbarton. It would be the first time the defending champions failed to make it past the first hurdle as a brace from Joseph Lindsay helped Dumbarton to a 4–3 win in their first competitive match at Boghead Park. Queen's Park and Rangers played out a goalless draw in front of 7,000 spectators at Kinning Park to set up a replay a week later while Kilmarnock Athletic defeated Ayr 6–0, Thornliebank won 4–0 at home to Yoker, Netherlee and Morton drew 0–0 and Renton were held to a 2–2 draw by Kilmarnock Thistle. In the replays on 27 September, Queen's Park exacted revenge for the previous season's defeat as they trounced Rangers 5–1 at Hampden Park, Morton and Netherlee shared 11 goals as the former advanced 7–4 at Cappielow and Renton recorded the biggest win of the round, defeating Kilmarnock Thistle 8–0 away from home. Jamestown had defeated Star of Leven 2–1 on 20 September but would later be disqualified from the competition after the referee for their second round match against Kirkintilloch Athletic was found to be a member of the club.
