The Alchemilla species A. cyclophylla, A. argyrophylla and A. johnstonii are dominant in the drier areas. There are over 100 species of wildflowers in the Afro-alpine zone including everlastings (Helichrysum spp.), buttercups (Ranunculus orephytes), sunburst (Haplocarpha rupellii) and African gladioli (Gladiolus thomsoni). Because of variation in flowering times, some species are in flower at all times of year. On the alpine slopes there several species of birds.

There are many species of original vegetation of Williams Landing that have been present for thousands of years. The red coloured patches are either kangaroo grass or red-leg grass. In spring, common everlastings, blue devils, lemon beauty-heads and spur velleia come up and are also original flora to the area. The area also has some threatened species such as spiny rice-flowers, large-fruit fireweeds, and basalt podolepis.

Pearly everlastings thrive with little care in sunny locations where the soil is thoroughly well drained and tends to be dryish rather than wet. They are easily increased by division in early spring, and can be raised from seeds. Dividing in fall is likely to result in winter losses. On poor soils these plants benefit from a spring application of a complete garden fertilizer, but this is unnecessary where the soil is reasonably fertile.

Lichen covers the trees of the alpine area. The American painted lady or American lady (Vanessa virginiensis)"Vanessa Fabricius, 1807" at Markku Savela's Lepidoptera and Some Other Life Forms is a butterfly found throughout North America. The larvae feed on various Asteraceae, such as the cudweeds (genus Gnaphalium), the pussytoes (Antennaria), and the everlastings (Anaphalis), which all belong to tribe Gnaphalieae. All stages of the life cycle can be found throughout temperate North America as well as Madeira and the Canary Islands. Occasionally individuals can be found as far as southwest Europe.

As a consequence, in 2000 Natural Temperate Grassland of the Southern Tablelands of NSW and the Australian Capital Territory was listed as Endangered under the Commonwealth Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999. Throughout its range, only 3% of the Natural Temperate Grassland remains in high ecological integrity, relative to its pre-European settlement extent. Natural Temperate Grassland at Queanbeyan Nature Reserve occupies most of the larger, southern section but in the smaller, northern section occurs only as small patches. The remnant community at Queanbeyan Nature Reserve has been classified as Wallaby- grass - Tall Speargrass – Common Everlastings Tussock Grassland of the South Eastern Highlands bioregion.

Johannes Fastenrath (1877) He was born at Remscheid, and studied at the universities of Bonn, Heidelberg, Munich, and Berlin, and in Paris. He traveled extensively in Spain in 1864, 1869, and 1879, and wrote several works of verse in German after the Spanish manner: Ein spanischer Romanzenstrauss (“A Spanish bouquet of romances,” 1866), Hesperische Blüten (“Hesperian blossoms,” 1869), Immortellen aus Toledo (“Everlastings from Toledo,” 1869); and in Das Buch meiner spanischen Freunde (“The book of my Spanish friends,” 1870), he introduced to German readers the work of contemporary Spanish poets through translations of representative specimens. He translated into German Manuel Juan Diana's comedy La Receta contra las Suegras (; “Receipe Against Mothers-in-Law”; 2nd ed., 1872). His La Walhalla y las glorias de Alemania (“Valhalla and the glories of Germany,” 1872-87) performed a reverse service, describing for Spanish benefit, under the guise of interesting essays, prominent German characters from the days of Hermann. His Pasionarias de un Alemán-Español (“Books of passion from a German-Spaniard”) described the Oberammergau Passion Play.
