General Chi Ching Kwong sends his son on a mission to recruit three Chinese anti-Ninjitsu fighters from the elder Master of Three Arts, who owes the General a debt. When the son establishes contact with the Master of Three Arts, the old one informs the General’s son that his three pupils do not know each other’s identity. The General’s son first meets up with the mischievous Chow Chun (Chiang Sheng) who he quickly enlists to the cause. Together they recruit the other student, a blacksmith named Tung Yen (Lu Feng). Chow Chun and Tung Yen are students of the same master, but don’t know each other and their philosophies cause them to fight playfully.

A secret government agency S.I.A. finds out that the neanderthals still exist hidden in Alaskan mountains and proceed to eliminate them in order to obtain their technology that developed differently from the rest of the world. A S.I.A. agent Trey McAloon confronts the organization about the issue while Alaskan Park Ranger Elizabeth Leaky establishes contact with one member of the neanderthals. The mini-series had an open-ended final, with questions of another S.I.A. boss whose orders formed the operation unanswered as well as the fate of a tribe of neanderthals that were shifted to another S.I.A. base. The series was collected in a trade paperback collection form subtitled "Descent of Man" with 6 new pages of story and art.

Ray was not mentioned again in the show, and the third season episode "Running Scared" dealt with Kimble and Donna reuniting to grieve over their father's death. Alone and anonymous, Joan is eventually found by villagers who mistakenly decide she has put a hex on their cow, tie her to a tree and immolate her, thus ending her life almost as history would have it. Upon her death, Joan re-establishes contact with her three voices, St. Michael, St. Catherine, and St. Margaret. The play script is held in the North Carolina Collection at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and remains unpublished. It contains many scene changes, often depicting how ordinary people's lives are affected by the war, including Joan's brother, Charles — acting as a scribe for his mother — requesting the king to provide them Joan's soldier's wages to live on, and chiding her for some irate informalisms she wants to include in the letter.

In 2000, Frank worked on various assignments for both DC and Marvel, including issue No. 7 of Tom Strong under DC's America's Best Comics imprint and writing and penciling a two-page X-Men story in X-Men: Millennial Visions, his final collaboration to date with inker Cam Smith. Kin, a six-issue miniseries created, written and penciled by Frank, was published under Image's Top Cow imprint. The story tells of a secret government agency named S.I.A. who discovers that a race of neanderthal men exists in the mountains of Alaska and proceed to eliminate them to obtain their technology, which developed differently from that of the rest of the world. The book's protagonist, S.I.A. agent Trey McAloon, is opposed to the agency's plans and confronts them about it, while the book's other main character, Alaskan Park Ranger Elizabeth Leaky, establishes contact with one of the neanderthals.
