Fiz releases Rosie, and John is arrested for kidnap and false imprisonment. John continues to send Fiz cards and letters while he is on remand, and is eventually sentenced to 2 years in prison.

Donald De Souza (Michael Jayston) appoints Carl MD of his business, disappointing his daughter, Anna (Emma Davies). Carl hires Lexi to be his PA, but discovers she has been passing information to Matthew, and ends things with her. Carl and Anna are attracted to each other and he is jealous of her relationship with Matthew and reconciles with Lexi, but when he tries to end their relationship, Lexi tells him that Carrie told her that he killed Tom. Donald buys Mill Cottage for Carl and he and Lexi move in together.

Though she tries to work through it, she eventually ends things with him when they attend a couples' counseling session. She confesses she is unable to feel someone as small as a baby carrot, to which he replies angrily by saying that maybe her vagina is too big. In a funny counterpoint to her predicament with James, in the second-season episode "Ex and the City," Samantha meets Mr. Too Big, who warns her of his huge endowment as he undresses. Samantha squeals with delight as the story segues to another character.

Eva texts Adam to thank him for not going through with the plan, unaware that he has had the entire factory ripped out, including the roof. She and Aidan agree to work things out but he ends things with her after finding out she was part of the factory plan. Aidan's father Johnny Connor (Richard Hawley) reports Eva to the police where she angrily vows to Adam that she intends to take him to prison with her. However, Adam later admits his feelings for Eva and they kiss, beginning a relationship.

On Halloween night, Emily confesses her love to Nikolas and they begin kissing only to be interrupted by Zander who lets her have it for all the lies she's told him and the heartache she's put him through. She ends things with Zander and he leaves. Although Nikolas is now divorced, he wants to be sure Emily won't regret her decision so he suggests they call it a night, but Emily insists she won't regret it and they make love. Emily and Zander divorce and Nikolas proposes to a joyful Emily.

Hunter is heartbroken and tries his best to get back with her although he is left broken again when she tells him their relationship meant nothing. Hunter finds out Neeta is being blackmailed by Mac and does his best to get her away from him but it results in hunter being beaten by Mac and Neeta being locked in the bathroom. Hunter fears Mac and ends things with Neeta. Weeks later he regrets it and tries his best to get back with Neeta but her affair is finally exposed.

Brett loses out to Keiran Wallace and both boys put school politics behind them. Stonie later falls for Cody, who is still involved with Rick. After Cody ends things with Rick, they become a couple but it is a difficult relationship as Cody is at University and Stonie is still in high school on his third attempt at Year 12. Stonie later lodges with Danni and her boyfriend, Malcolm Kennedy (Benjamin McNair) when they move out of home and are soon joined by Stonie's mother Angie and brother Toadfish.

Nadia seduces and sleeps with a drunken Phil. He regrets it, denying it to Kathy so Grant threatens to kill her to make her leave but Phil later bribes her into agreeing to a divorce. Kathy agrees to marry Phil in 1994, despite discovering that he torched a vehicle in a car lot – owned by his would-be stepfather Frank Butcher (Mike Reid) – to secure an insurance scam, accidentally killing a homeless boy trapped inside. Intent on winning him back, Sharon kisses Phil but he ends things there.

When Valerie probes Dante, Dante admits that over the Christmas holidays, he and Lulu didn't fight so much. At this point, Valerie ends things with Dante, which produces a palpable expression of relief on Dante's face. Later after befriending the mysterious Greg (Brandon Barash), who helped repair her car when Valerie was stranded on the side of the road, Valerie meets up with him again, but this time Greg is having car trouble and asks Valerie for a ride. Greg then kidnaps her when Valerie realizes he is actually an escaped fugitive Johnny Zacchara.

After a family meeting and much soul-searching, Nicole, Vivienne and Maya forgive Julius and Sasha for their lies. Sasha continues her work at Forrester Creations and she gets closer to Thomas Forrester (Pierson Fodé) when he defends her from Julius' verbal attack and Sasha thanks Thomas with a kiss. Sasha and Thomas start to dating, but Nicole thinks Thomas still has feelings for his babymama, Caroline Spencer (Linsey Godfrey). When Caroline returns in town with Thomas' son, Douglas Forrester, wanting the three of them to be a family, Sasha ends things with Thomas, not wishing to stand between him and his child.

Ian accuses Kathy of never listening to him, breaking her promise to "be his mum again" and always wanting something else than her family, so Kathy ends things with Masood. Masood finds out Tamwar and Nancy are to marry in Australia. When Kathy returns from a holiday, she tells Masood she wants a proper relationship with him; he says he wants the same and they kiss. They tell Ian about their relationship, and Masood asks Kathy to be his guest at Tamwar and Nancy's wedding and then says he wants them both to live in Australia.

Coincidentally, a comatose Ben dies just as Viki takes a turn for the worse, and his heart is transplanted into Viki, who recovers but must face widowhood once again. In 2007, Viki and Clint (Jerry verDorn) start dating again, but Dorian decides she wants Clint for herself and plots to break up the couple. Dorian's schemes succeed, and Clint ends things with Viki to start a new relationship with Dorian. Feeling humiliated and defeated, Viki leaves Llanview for a much-needed vacation and finds herself in Paris, Texas, where she tries to reinvent herself by waiting tables at a local diner.

Molly is initially horrified but later tells him that she is flattered and they begin an affair, first sleeping together when Kevin sneaks away from Sally's birthday party. Afterwards, Kevin feels guilty and decides to end it before it gets out of hand by persuading Tyrone to take Molly on holiday. They resume the affair in August, agreeing to tell their respective spouses and leave them but Kevin ends things with Molly instead, after learning that Sally has breast cancer. After breaking the difficult news to Rosie and Sophie, Sally has a lumpectomy to remove the growth, which proves successful.

Worse still, the prostitute turns out to be an acquaintance of hers, Maisy Gibbons, who is later arrested for living off immoral earnings. Maisy is persuaded to do a deal with the District Attorney, naming her clients and despite a request from Bree, does not remove Rex's name. Furious, Bree tells Rex she will divorce him but is "persuaded" by Andrew and Danielle to look after him, while he recuperates from a heart attack. Initially wanting to hurt him, Bree starts dating local pharmacist, George Williams, but ends things when Rex asks her to give their marriage another chance.

In season 8, Trevor maintains firm boundaries with Ian, though obvious that a spark is still there. Ian, trying to work his way back into Trevor's good graces, spends much of his time and money at the LGBTQ+ center. Trevor begins to warm back up to Ian, and the two settle into a friendship, albeit one with much flirting. Trevor nearly ends things again when one of his kids loses a place in a shelter because Ian thoughtlessly helped her, but Ian responds by helping Trevor try and open a new shelter in an abandoned church.

Amy gives them her blessing to pursue a relationship, however, Elly decides to put her friendship with Amy first and ends things with Liam. Elly's younger sister Bea Nilsson (Bonnie Anderson) comes to Erinsborough and Elly attempts to reconnect with her. Elly encourages Bea to apply for a job at the local garage, and stands up for her when Mark accuses Bea of inputting the wrong figures on the invoices. When Mark tells Elly how he feels about her, she kisses him and then tells him that he has to earn her love, which he does.

After Justine faints at an open mic performance out of stage fright she gives up music for a while. When her friend, Lorna, gives birth she decides that she too wants a baby, but when she suggests it to Ben, the ex she is still sleeping with, he ends things for good, later informing her that he will be leaving town. Inspired by the breakup Justine begins playing her guitar again. She spots a girl playing drums in the window of her local music shop but while the two acknowledge each other they do not talk.

Quinn claims that her experience with Liam has changed her (as she opened up to him about being rejected as a child by her parents) and begins to secretly romance Steffy's grandfather Eric, despite Steffy warning Quinn to stay away from her family. Eric and Quinn's relationship progresses and they eventually tell their families, with Eric's children and grandchildren objecting. Eric ends things with Quinn after Steffy issues him with an ultimatum. However, when Eric, Steffy, Liam and Wyatt go on a business trip to Monte Carlo, Quinn follows them there and resumes her relationship with Eric.

Abi's boyfriend Jay Brown (Jamie Borthwick) witnesses the confrontation between them and tells Phil, who in turn reveals the truth to a horrified Ian. At the funeral, Ian attacks Max when he sees him carrying Lucy's coffin and later Phil and Alfie Moon (Shane Richie) visit him and tell him that he is no longer welcome in any of Ian or Phil's businesses or The Queen Vic. Max then begins a sexual relationship with DC Emma Summerhayes (Anna Acton), the detective who is investigating Lucy's murder. Emma ends things when Max's rival, Dot's grandson Charlie Cotton (Declan Bennett) discovers their relationship and threatens to report it.

Later, Dirk discovers that Cindy played a part in Browning's murder and ends things with her. However, when Cindy goes into labour, Mercedes convinces Dirk to help Cindy after realising what a good friend Cindy is. Cindy gives birth to baby Hilton, although he is unable to breathe and it is revealed he requires a blood transfusion, however the only person able to give the blood transfusion is Dr. Browning's son, Alex (Ojan Genc). Mercedes goes to meet Alex, pretending to be a cleaner and convinces him to help Cindy, however she lies to Alex that Hilton is already dead, not wanting him to know the truth about Dr. Browning's death.

Hayley refuses Becky's apologies and when the cafe catches fire and Becky is rescued from the burning building, the Croppers assume she was responsible. Hayley apologises to Becky on learning that the fire was caused by an electrical fault and the two resume their friendship, with Becky re-employed at Roy's Rolls. Becky starts dating builder Jason Grimshaw (Ryan Thomas), but after being with him for several months, she cheats on him with pub landlord Steve McDonald (Simon Gregson). Jason and Becky move in together, but when Jason's ex-wife, Sarah Grimshaw (Tina O'Brien), reveals she is considering coming home, he ends things with Becky.

After Carl helps Eve out when her car breaks down on the day of Shadrach Dingle's (Andy Devine) funeral, she and Carl kiss and later embark on an affair. During this time, Eve befriends Carl's girlfriend, Chas Dingle (Lucy Pargeter), and later feels guilty but Carl reassures her that it is a bit of fun and that Chas need never know. Carl's brother Jimmy (Nick Miles) finds out about the affair when he catches them together and threatens to tell Chas unless he ends things with Eve. Carl lies to Jimmy, that he has ended the relationship but Edna also finds out and berates Carl and Eve, telling Eve that she hasn't learned anything from her encounter with John.

This doesn't last when Katie realizes that Lee repeated things that she told him in confidence so she ends things with Nathan and asks Lee to move out. After Faye (Kim Thomson) and Ryan Lamb (James Sutton) move to the village, she gets to know Ryan and they start dating, despite his mother's objections. Mark tells Faye that Katie is a nice girl that can be trusted but Gennie Walker (Sian Reese-Williams) tells Faye about Katie being a surrogate mother so Faye invites her to dinner and questions her about her past, much to Ryan's embarrassment. He insists Faye apologize and Ryan and Katie are happy until Ryan discovers he has feelings for Maisie Wylde (Alice Coulthard).

When Leah begins staying with Tom and Vinnie; both make a play for her but Leah prefers Vinnie. While working on Travis' boat one day, Tom encounters Gilly Austen (Sarah Aubrey) who has been stowing away and they begin a relationship and get engaged, much to Joel's chagrin. It soon emerges that Gilly is using Tom as a means to avoid deportation back to her home country of the United Kingdom in order to stay with her boyfriend Rory (Justin Cotta), who Tom finds staying over one day when he visits. Tom then ends things with Gilly and after failing to run a charter boat business due to Joel's refusal to help, he leaves Summer Bay to go travelling then settles in Queensland near Natalie.

Gigi's sister Stacy is working as on exotic dancer in Las Vegas; on February 6, 2009, she spots Rex and Gigi there and follows them back to Llanview. Stacy decides she wants Rex for herself just as Shane is diagnosed with leukemia; learning of a matching donor, Stacy pretends that she is the match and forces Gigi to break up with Rex in exchange for her blood. Gigi reluctantly arranges for Rex to come upon her in bed with Brody and ends things with Rex. Shane receives the transplant and improves, but Gigi is afraid to reveal Stacy's blackmail in case Shane needs more of her stem cells. In June 2009, Schuyler Joplin stuns Gigi with his theory that Stacy had switched someone else's stem cells for hers.
