Though she tries to work through it, she eventually ends things with him when they attend a couples' counseling session. She confesses she is unable to feel someone as small as a baby carrot, to which he replies angrily by saying that maybe her vagina is too big. In a funny counterpoint to her predicament with James, in the second-season episode "Ex and the City," Samantha meets Mr. Too Big, who warns her of his huge endowment as he undresses. Sasha and Thomas start to dating, but Nicole thinks Thomas still has feelings for his babymama, Caroline Spencer (Linsey Godfrey). When Caroline returns in town with Thomas' son, Douglas Forrester, wanting the three of them to be a family, Sasha ends things with Thomas, not wishing to stand between him and his child.

Inspired by the breakup Justine begins playing her guitar again. She spots a girl playing drums in the window of her local music shop but while the two acknowledge each other they do not talk.
Quinn claims that her experience with Liam has changed her (as she opened up to him about being rejected as a child by her parents) and begins to secretly romance Steffy's grandfather Eric, despite Steffy warning Quinn to stay away from her family. Eric and Quinn's relationship progresses and they eventually tell their families, with Eric's children and grandchildren objecting. Eric ends things with Quinn after Steffy issues him with an ultimatum. However, when Eric, Steffy, Liam and Wyatt go on a business trip to Monte Carlo, Quinn follows them there and resumes her relationship with Eric.
Abi's boyfriend Jay Brown (Jamie Borthwick) witnesses the confrontation between them and tells Phil, who in turn reveals the truth to a horrified Ian. At the funeral, Ian attacks Max when he sees him carrying Lucy's coffin and later Phil and Alfie Moon (Shane Richie) visit him and tell him that he is no longer welcome in any of Ian or Phil's businesses or The Queen Vic. Max then begins a sexual relationship with DC Emma Summerhayes (Anna Acton), the detective who is investigating Lucy's murder. Emma ends things when Max's rival, Dot's grandson Charlie Cotton (Declan Bennett) discovers their relationship and threatens to report it.
Later, Dirk discovers that Cindy played a part in Browning's murder and ends things with her. However, when Cindy goes into labour, Mercedes convinces Dirk to help Cindy after realising what a good friend Cindy is. Cindy gives birth to baby Hilton, although he is unable to breathe and it is revealed he requires a blood transfusion, however the only person able to give the blood transfusion is Dr. Browning's son, Alex (Ojan Genc). Mercedes goes to meet Alex, pretending to be a cleaner and convinces him to help Cindy, however she lies to Alex that Hilton is already dead, not wanting him to know the truth about Dr. Browning's death.
Hayley refuses Becky's apologies and when the cafe catches fire and Becky is rescued from the burning building, the Croppers assume she was responsible. Hayley apologises to Becky on learning that the fire was caused by an electrical fault and the two resume their friendship, with Becky re-employed at Roy's Rolls. Becky starts dating builder Jason Grimshaw (Ryan Thomas), but after being with him for several months, she cheats on him with pub landlord Steve McDonald (Simon Gregson). Jason and Becky move in together, but when Jason's ex-wife, Sarah Grimshaw (Tina O'Brien), reveals she is considering coming home, he ends things with Becky.
After Carl helps Eve out when her car breaks down on the day of Shadrach Dingle's (Andy Devine) funeral, she and Carl kiss and later embark on an affair. During this time, Eve befriends Carl's girlfriend, Chas Dingle (Lucy Pargeter), and later feels guilty but Carl reassures her that it is a bit of fun and that Chas need never know. Carl's brother Jimmy (Nick Miles) finds out about the affair when he catches them together and threatens to tell Chas unless he ends things with Eve. Carl lies to Jimmy, that he has ended the relationship but Edna also finds out and berates Carl and Eve, telling Eve that she hasn't learned anything from her encounter with John.
This doesn't last when Katie realizes that Lee repeated things that she told him in confidence so she ends things with Nathan and asks Lee to move out. After Faye (Kim Thomson) and Ryan Lamb (James Sutton) move to the village, she gets to know Ryan and they start dating, despite his mother's objections. Mark tells Faye that Katie is a nice girl that can be trusted but Gennie Walker (Sian Reese-Williams) tells Faye about Katie being a surrogate mother so Faye invites her to dinner and questions her about her past, much to Ryan's embarrassment. He insists Faye apologize and Ryan and Katie are happy until Ryan discovers he has feelings for Maisie Wylde (Alice Coulthard).
When Leah begins staying with Tom and Vinnie; both make a play for her but Leah prefers Vinnie. While working on Travis' boat one day, Tom encounters Gilly Austen (Sarah Aubrey) who has been stowing away and they begin a relationship and get engaged, much to Joel's chagrin. It soon emerges that Gilly is using Tom as a means to avoid deportation back to her home country of the United Kingdom in order to stay with her boyfriend Rory (Justin Cotta), who Tom finds staying over one day when he visits. Tom then ends things with Gilly and after failing to run a charter boat business due to Joel's refusal to help, he leaves Summer Bay to go travelling then settles in Queensland near Natalie.
Gigi's sister Stacy is working as on exotic dancer in Las Vegas; on February 6, 2009, she spots Rex and Gigi there and follows them back to Llanview. Stacy decides she wants Rex for herself just as Shane is diagnosed with leukemia; learning of a matching donor, Stacy pretends that she is the match and forces Gigi to break up with Rex in exchange for her blood.
