The unit was scheduled to have a £3.4 million refit in 2013 but this has been rescheduled due to increased demand on the service and the disruption the work would cause. In July 2020 the "call before you walk" system was adopted. Less severely ill patients are to be directed to other services and those who need to be in A&E; will be given an appointment.

Ashalok Hospital was constructed in 1967 as an OPD based Hospital. It was later converted to a 7 bed hospital and it is currently a 25 bed hospital with the following facilities: occupational health unit, ICU, cabin and IPD facility, dressing room, advanced operating theatre, radiology room with X-ray, pharmacy, pathology lab, laundry room with CSSD facility, dental unit, burn unit, and emergency unit. Doctors at Ashalok Hospital contributed to post-Fani Cyclone restoration through medical camps conducted during May 2019, covering 8472 patients during the 22 day camp.

In July 2012, South London Healthcare NHS Trust was put into financial administration. A government report in 2012 recommended that three SLHT hospitals should be taken over by nearby NHS trusts and that the University Hospital Lewisham Accident and Emergency unit should close, with A&E; patients instead going to the SLHT-run Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Woolwich to make that hospital more viable. There was a strong campaign in Lewisham against the proposed closure, including a march on 24 November 2012 and a successful legal challenge. During the period of the Rhodesian Bush War in the late 1960s and 1970s, the BSAP formed an important part of the white minority government's fight against Communist guerrillas. In 71 cases general practice services and emergency rooms are found in one hospital location, bringing the total number of locations where acute care is offered to 160. Analysis by the Netherlands National Institute for Public Health and the Environment showed that 99.8 percent of the people can be transported to an emergency unit / casualty ward, or a hospital offering emergency obstetrics within 45 minutes in 2015.

Although the main hospital building was completed by December 1966, commissioning of the Hospital and opening of the wards proceeded slowly mainly because of a shortage of nursing staff. By early 1979, over 10,000 turbo-engined Saabs had already been built, as Saab successfully entered a new market segment. Other news for 1978 included the availability of a sunroof, and the EMS became a three-door Combi-coupé in some markets. In 1979 the Combi-coupé option was discontinued for the 99, as the new Saab 900 was only available in this bodystyle. The 99 Turbo changed over to the two-door saloon bodywork although only a small number were built. The rear axle was altered, the fuel tank changed to a plastic one, new wheels were fitted, and four-door models received new bumpers similar to those of the 900. These bumpers were also installed on two-doors beginning with the 1980 model year. In 1980 the 99 was also given the new and safer seats from the Saab 900, as well as low-mounted protective strips along the sides. The spare wheel was changed to an emergency unit.

In 1974 the location opened with 124 beds, at a cost of $7.5 million. In 1989, Concordia was Winnipeg's third-busiest emergency unit, despite being the smallest hospital in the city, and operating on a budget of only $19 million. In 1993, the hospital was considering closing the emergency department from midnight to 8am in order to save $280,000/year. In 1994, Concordia Hospital became the first in Canada to use laser treatment for prostate surgery, in a one-week trial which was the largest conducted at a single institution in North America.
