Of the long activity in Rome, which he mainly dedicated to portraiture, one should pay attention to The Glory of St. Anna in the ceiling of the church of St. Francesco da Paola, a St. Joseph in the same church and a St. Albert Caring for the Sick in St. Maria di Montesanto. Only the first of these works has come to the present day, having lost the others in an indeterminable period. His elder sibling was, reputedly, Giulio Giacinto Avellino, also a painter, born in 1645.

One such drawback is the fact that elder siblings, especially the first born of the relevant gender, will be heavily incentivized to sidestep the tradition, even more so if primogeniture inheritance is a familiar concept. And since the elder siblings likely have more time and opportunities to gain power, wealth, experience, and influence prior to the inheritance—simply because they were born earlier—ultimogeniture traditions are more likely to be disregarded or even discarded. Coercion, assassination, fratricide, or even patricide can be committed, backed by all the advantage an elder sibling would have, such that ultimogeniture is sidestepped. To clarify, those who stand to gain by ignoring the stipulation under ultimogeniture are more likely to have the facility to do so, when compared to other succession laws.

Anna (Belack) was introduced in the One Life to Live series debut in July 1968 as a homemaker and hospital volunteer, and matriarchal figure as the elder sibling to brothers Vince Wolek (Antony Ponzini) and Larry Wolek (Paul Tulley, Michael Storm after 1969). She lives in a tenement apartment complex in working-class west Llanview, living in a corridor directly opposite Lord family housekeeper Sadie Gray (Lillian Hayman). In her work as a hospital volunteer, Anna works alongside and shadows brother and Llanview Hospital resident physician Larry and befriends Meredith Lord (Trish Van Devere, Lynn Benesch after 1969). Larry works under Llanview Hospital chief of staff Jim Craig (Robert Milli, Nat Polen after 1969), to whom Anna grows an affinity.

Seeing the whole work as an obscure elder sibling to T. S. Eliot's The Waste Land, literary scholar Richard Chase has argued that the "sterility of modern life is the central symbolic idea of the poem", and that, after the "extremities of titanism in Pierre", Melville reached the culmination of his later thought: "the core of the high Promethean hero". The Protevangelium of James (a 2nd century apocryphal gospel also called the Gospel of James or the Infancy Gospel of James), says that Mary was betrothed to Joseph and that he already had children. In this case, James was one of Joseph's children from his previous marriage and, therefore, Jesus' stepbrother. The bishop of Salamis, Epiphanius, wrote too in his work The Panarion (AD 374-375) that "...James (brother of Jesus) was Joseph's son by Joseph's first wife, not by Mary..." He adds that Joseph became the father of James and his three brothers (Joses, Simeon, Judah) and two sisters (a Salome and a Mary or a Salome and an Anna) with James being the elder sibling. James and his siblings were not children of Mary but were Joseph's children from a previous marriage.

His works show a great amount of respect and approval for traditional Chinese values, especially Confucian ideals such as the proper relationship between ruler and subject, parent and child, elder sibling and younger sibling, and (particularly strongly, due to the wuxia nature of his novels), between master and apprentice, and among fellow apprentices.

A reason offered for such an omission is that Nie's elder sibling dies while attempting to retrieve the slain assassin's body, and such a heroic feat "comes close to upstaging her (brother's act)"; Pu did not want Tian Qilang's actions to be overshadowed, and preferred that "justice is seen to be done in a more conspicuously satisfying way". Nie Zheng's mother does not have "an active role in the story"; Pu accords Tian Qilang's mother with "a distinct identity of her own" and a voice that "articulates the profound inequality which exists between her son and Wu Chengxiu". At the same time, she is the one who reminds Tian that he owes Wu a debt of gratitude for saving his life.

Although the story remains unaltered until the two endings, it is greatly influenced by the player's decisions. Hawke can recruit up to eight companions, each of whom can be player-controlled. Along with Varric, mandatory companions include Anders (Adam Howden), a proud but mercurial mage and former Grey Warden determined to defend the mages in Kirkwall from the templars; Aveline Vallen (Joanna Roth), a pragmatic and strict warrior who rise up the ranks of the Kirkwall City Guard to become its leader; and Merrill (Eve Myles), a soft-hearted but socially awkward Dalish elven mage shunned by her clan due to her obsession with a dangerous ancient artifact as well as her use of blood magic. As well, one of Hawke's twin siblings serves as a companion for the story's first act: their sister Bethany (Rebekah Staton), a kind though timid mage who has a loving relationship with her sibling; or their brother Carver (Nico Lennon), a prideful and abrasive warrior who cares for his elder sibling but feels overshadowed by them.
