Master Humphrey's Clock was a weekly serial that contained both short stories and two novels (The Old Curiosity Shop and Barnaby Rudge). Some of the short stories act as frame stories to the novels. The wake- equalising duct is a static flow modifier attached to the hull upstream of the propeller within the wake. It may be made of a single circular section duct directly ahead of the propeller, with fixed internal and/or external fins to impart rotational changes to the wake flow, or as two semicircular ducts mounted further forwards, one on each side of the hull, aligned to provide the desired flow modification. Throughout the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries sans-serif types were viewed with suspicion by many printers, especially those of fine book printing, as being fit only for advertisements (if that), and to this day most books remain printed in serif fonts as body text. Birney's World War II experiences inspired the creation of the title character of his comic military novel, Turvey (1949), a saga of one hapless soldier's struggle to get to 'the sharp end' of the fighting in the Netherlands and Germany during 1944–45. The character of Turvey is a fascinating melange of country boy innocent, common sense utilitarian and town fool, and seems to have been fashioned as a foil to the eccentrically pseudo-sophisticated Canadian military life as illustrated in the novel. The book has been described as "uproariously ribald", winning the Stephen Leacock Medal for Humour. Turvey was a hit in Canada, selling 30,000 copies.

Royal Albert returned to England where in July 1858 she acted as part of the escort for Queen Victoria's visit to Cherbourg to meet the Emperor and Empress of France. The queen's yacht entered and departed the harbour between lines of British warships stationed at the approach. Ashore, Tryon came within ten yards of the royal party: the event was celebrated with much firing of guns in salute, fireworks and the lighting up of the ships by lights spread through the rigging and shown at all portholes. 1975 pre-serial number Model 2459 (Korina Destroyer) The Destroyer is an Ibanez brand electric guitar model (originally) manufactured at the FujiGen- Gakki musical instrument factory for the Hoshino-Gakki Company. The Destroyer model was first introduced by Hoshino-Gakki in 1975 and was based on the Gibson Musical Instruments' Explorer design. The Destroyer has since undergone several design and line changes and has been available in both 6-string and bass versions. The star-shape variant was one of the first eccentrically- shaped guitars at the time with a floating tremolo system, making it a popular choice for the heavy metal and shred musicians of the 80s.

Many reviewers claimed Ann's relationship with Chris in the third season was a major improvement, with several writing that Chris' near-perfection took the normally composed Ann out of her comfort zone, giving Rashida Jones more comedic material to work with. The music video was directed by Erik White, it premiered on 25 January 2011 and was filmed late December 2010. The video commences with Jordan walking down a street wearing sunglasses, which is followed by the first scene in which Jordan begins to sing. The singer is shown dancing in an eccentrically choreographed scene; one of which is with her back-up dancers, and the other, which was with a male dancer Hefa Leone Tuita, in which Jordan and the male dancer were dancing in sync. Scenes also included Jordan dressed as a high-school girl eating an apple, and Jordan wearing an outfit consisting of PVC on a motorbike chewing bubble-gum.

Following the commercial failure of Magician Among the Spirits, the members of The Church turned their attention to other projects and Willson-Piper left Australia again in order to collaborate with other artists and write new solo material. In his absence, Kilbey, Powles, and Koppes spent some studio time together and quickly wrote and recorded an album as The Refo:mation, utilizing Powles also as a mix engineer. Loose in feel but rich in atmosphere, the eccentrically-titled Pharmakoi/Distance-Crunching Honchos with Echo Units saw a greater focus on concise, guitar-dominated songs, in contrast to the experimentation of Magician Among the Spirits. Group tensions within The Church proper were still simmering, however.

The Allmusic review by Scott Yanow states, "On first glance this LP combines together a pair of unlikely musical partners; the unique multi-instrumentalist Rahsaan Roland Kirk and Duke Ellington's former ballad singer Al Hibbler. However Rahsaan was very well acquainted with Ellington's music and he plays respectfully behind Hibbler on many of the standards, taking the wild 'Carney and Bigard Place' as an instrumental. Hibbler (who did not record much this late in his career) is in good voice and phrases as eccentrically as ever".Yanow, S. [ Allmusic Review] accessed 20 August 2009 The Penguin Guide to Jazz gives the album a four star rating (of a possible four) plus a special "Crown" accolade.

A simple rectangular plan-form, the church is entered by two gabled porches, the whole covered by a slate-clad hammer-beam roof and complemented by the eccentrically placed square-based tower with its broad stone spire (now rendered), this latter feature was completed in 1898. The rough-dressed sandstone walls of the Church, built up on coursed basalt rubble foundations are enlivened by dressed quoins, parapets, buttresses and reveals to the building's lancet-form openings. Internal finishes comprise stone flagging, painted plastered walls with later sedar panelling (1953) and painted timber ceiling, complemented by fine cedar pews arranged in three banks. The geometric east windows contain noted examples of painted pictorial glass, installed in 1897.

The inner planet is twice as massive as Jupiter and takes 453 days to orbit the star in a circular orbit at the average distance of 1.33 AU (199 Gm). The outer planet is 5/6 the mass of Jupiter and takes 883 days to orbit eccentrically around the star at the average distance of 2.08 AU (312 Gm). The two planets are in a 2:1 resonance, meaning that the outer planet orbits the star once every time when the inner planet orbits the star twice.

After a match in which he legitimately attacked jobber Mike Bell, Saturn immediately underwent a significant gimmick change and, possibly as punishment for his actions, was involved in storylines about his becoming infatuated with a mop. After receiving head trauma in matches against The Acolytes Protection Agency and Raven, Saturn began acting eccentrically and speaking nonsensically, allegedly as the result of a concussion. Saturn began uttering the phrase "you're welcome" at inopportune intervals, and then fell in love with Moppy, an inanimate mop which he believed was alive, similar to Wilson the volleyball in the 2000 film Cast Away. This gimmick went over well with the fans, leading to a face turn.

As the user lifts the lower portions of his legs, the lever arm is pivoted to pull the cable and the weights attached thereto, thereby strengthening the knee muscles of the user.

The fell is linked by a ridge to another “Wainwright” fell, Knott Rigg and most walkers will climb both hills together in the same walk. There are two possible starting points, one is at Rigg Beck in Newlands, near the site of the eccentrically painted “purple house” which was destroyed by fire in June 2008. This route goes directly up the eastern ridge passing the outcrop of Aikin Knott after which the ridge narrows considerably to reach the heather covered summit which gives a precipitous view of Newlands. The alternative starting point is the car park at Newlands Hause which stands at an altitude of 333 metres (1,093 feet), the summit of Knott Rigg is crossed first before continuing onto Ard Crags.

According to Cleese, who consulted a psychiatrist who specialised in treating "shrews", Miller also researched how troublesome children were treated at the Tavistock Clinic, where imitation is often used during therapy; "there are ways in which a skilful therapist will gently mock a child out of a tantrum by giving an amusing imitation of the tantrum immediately after it's happened. The child then has a mirror held up to it and is capable of seeing what it looks like to others." In his review of the adaptation for the Financial Times, Chris Dunkley referred to this issue, calling Cleese's Petruchio "an eccentrically pragmatic social worker using the wayward client's own doubtful habits to calm her down." Actress Sarah Badel had a similar conception of the psychology behind the production.

Egor Pavlovich Popov (; February 6, 1913 – April 19, 2001) was a structural and seismic engineer who helped transform the design of buildings, structures, and civil engineering around earthquake-prone regions. A relative of inventor Alexander Stepanovich Popov, Egor Popov was born in Kiev, Russian Empire (now capital of Ukraine), and after moving to America in 1927, he eventually earned a B.S. from UC Berkeley, his master's degree from MIT and his doctorate degree from Stanford in 1946. During his career, Popov was primarily famous for his work doing research for the University of California, Berkeley. Some of his accomplishments include: working with buckling problems for NASA in Houston, Texas, involvement with the San Francisco–Oakland Bay Bridge, assisting with pipe testing for the Trans-Alaskan Pipeline, developing the Steel Moment Resisting Frame (resistance to earthquake forces), and eccentrically braced frames (ebf's).

The Café Royal, London (William Orpen, 1912) Around 1910, May travelled to London where she quickly became familiar with the pubs and clubs of the West End. She became a regular at the Endell Street Club and the Café Royal which before World War I was a much different place from the later Café Royal. May described it as a real café with sawdust on the floor, cheap drinks and gilded decorations "as gaudy and as bright as possible" where you could get a plate of chips for sixpence. May said, "The lights, the mirrors, the red plush seats, the eccentrically dressed people, the coffee served in glasses, the pale cloudy absinthe ... [I] felt as if I had strayed by accident into some miraculous Arabian palace" continuing "No duck ever took to water, no man to drink, as I to the Café Royal".

Pacific Tower survived the earthquakes very well, where just one fractured active link required replacing, and a further three weakened links were removed for testing by the two civil engineering universities in New Zealand, in Auckland and Christchurch. The eccentrically braced frame (EBF) link that fractured was the first failure of this building element worldwide (another EBF fractured in one of the city's parking buildings) and was thus of scientific interest. Structural engineer John Scarry, who is known in New Zealand as an ardent critic of his peers, praised the design of the Pacific Tower and the HSBC building in Worcester Boulevard (another steel frame building) as good examples of how buildings should be designed. The earthquake performance demonstrates the resilience and economic value of steel-framed buildings—any damaged components can be removed and replaced.

The plaque on the side of The George pub, commemorating a cherry pie Although The George is not a particularly old building, there has been a pub on that site for hundreds of years. Set in to the side of the pub is a plaque dating from 1752 which was formerly part of an older pub building. The plaque is inscribed with the eccentrically spelled verse: : In Memory of : Ye Cherry Pey : As cost 1/2 a Guiney : Ye 17 of July : That day we had good cheer : I hope to so do maney a Year : R C 1752 D JerryPlaque details accessed 24 April 2007. There are various local legends explaining this curious plaque, including a tale of the theft of a cherry pie by local workmen who were caught and fined half a guinea (52.5p).

MacLise still behaved eccentrically with time and commerce and went by his own clock: for instance, he showed up half an hour late to one show and carried on with a half-hour of drumming to compensate for his late arrival, long after the set had finished. In December 1966, Warhol and David Dalton designed Issue 3 of the multimedia Aspen. Included in this issue of the "magazine", which retailed at $4 ($ in dollars) per copy and was packaged in a hinged box designed to look like Fab laundry detergent, were various leaflets and booklets, one of which was a commentary on rock and roll by Lou Reed, another an EPI promotional newspaper. Also enclosed was a 2-sided flexi disk: side one produced by Peter Walker, a musical associate of Timothy Leary; and side two titled "Loop", credited to the Velvet Underground but actually recorded by Cale alone.

Remi Kabaka Jr. became producer for the band in 2016 after several years providing the voice of Russel Hobbs and was listed as an official member alongside Albarn and Hewlett in the 2019 documentary Gorillaz: Reject False Icons. With Gorillaz, Albarn departed from the distinct Britpop of his band Blur, exploring a variety of musical styles including hip hop, electronic music, and world music through an "eccentrically postmodern" approach. The band's 2001 debut album Gorillaz, which featured dub and Latin influences, went triple platinum in the UK and double platinum in Europe, with sales driven by the success of the album's lead single "Clint Eastwood". Their second studio album, Demon Days (2005), went 6 times platinum in the UK and double platinum in the US and spawned the successful lead single "Feel Good Inc.". The band's third album, Plastic Beach (2010), featured environmentalist themes, an electropop approach and an expanded roster of featured artists.

Elite runners tend to exhibit some degree of knee flexion at footstrike and midstance, which first serves to eccentrically absorb impact forces in the quadriceps muscle group. Secondly it allows for the knee joint to concentrically contract and provides major aid in propulsion during toe-off as the quadriceps group is capable of produce large amounts of force. Recreational runners have been shown to increase stride length through increased knee extension rather than increased hip flexion as exhibited by elite runners, which serves instead to provide an intense braking motion with each step and decrease the rate and efficiency of knee extension during toe- off, slowing down speed.

Flexing of the arrow when shot from a modern 'centre shot' bow is still present and is caused by a variety of factors, mainly the way the string is deflected from the fingers as the arrow is released. The term was first used by E.J. Rendtroff in 1913, but detailed descriptions of the phenomenon appear in archery literature as early as Horace A. Ford's 1859 text "Archery: Its Theory and Practice". As understanding was gained about the arrow flexing around and out of the way of the bow as it is shot (as first filmed by Clarence Hickman) and then experiencing oscillating back-and-forth bending as it travels toward the target, this dynamic flexing has incorrectly become a common usage of the term. This misuse sometimes causes misunderstanding on the part of those only familiar with modern target bows, which often have risers with an eccentrically cutout "arrow window"; being "centre shot", these bows do not exhibit any paradoxical behaviour as the arrow is always pointing visually along its line of flight.

Allmusic journalist Heather Phares, in her three-and-a-half star review, opined that "at their best BEAK> are fascinatingly dour, and willing to challenge listeners in unexpected ways", while BBC Music writer Adam Kennedy found it "as eccentrically Bristolian as Aphex Twin’s works are Cornish or Mogwai’s are Scottish, with equally intrepid results", noting its "constant invention and genuine humanity characterising every whirr and warm glow". In more mixed reviews, Pitchfork Media's Jess Harvell described Beak "as full of odd, compulsive energy as you'd expect from something cranked out in two weeks, made by a guy who probably had creative fuel to burn, considering that his day job took 11 years between their second and third albums".

Baker felt the lyrics had weak spots and rehashed well-worn topics, but wrote that when he's saying the same thing in only slightly new ways, Gucc does it with flair." Mos Jones of AllHipHop said the mixtape was likely Gucci Mane's best work since 2008; he called it an "exercise in excellent trap production" and said that although Gucci Mane "may not be the most lyrical rapper to ever pick up a microphone," he "put enough emotion and flair into his words" to make them "float inside of your consciousness for days." Writing for the UK-based Fact magazine, Jack Law said Trap Back "mostly succeeds because it's fun", describing the mixtape's overall sound as "an inventive, weirdly playful twist on the trap template" and Gucci Mane's lyrics as "completely conventional (he's got a lot of money, he's fucked a lot of honeyz, etc.) but so eccentrically and extravagantly depicted that they end up seeming exotic and cartoonish." In a mostly negative review, Phillip Mlynar at HipHopDX said "the project reinforces the limits of Gucci's trap rap spiel and leaves the suspicion that his popularity has already peaked.
