Dohazari was used by the USAAF Tenth Air Force 1st Combat Cargo Group as a supply point for aerial resupply drops over Burma between 30 January and 15 May 1945. The groups 2d and 4th Combat Cargo Squadron remained at the airfield flying C-46 Commando aircraft until 31 October when the base was closed after the war. After the war the airfield was abandoned and today is part of an agricultural area.

Helmcken Falls drops over the western escarpment of the Murtle Plateau. This huge lava deposit in the Wells Gray-Clearwater volcanic field was erupted from nearby fissures starting 200,000 years ago and filled the wide valley of the Clearwater River. Layer upon layer of fresh lava created the plateau, then enormous floods eroded the lava at the close of the last ice age, about 10,000 years ago. These floods created Helmcken Canyon below the falls.

During construction, a tornado caused part of the structure to collapse, but the roller coaster was still completed on schedule. Sylvia Falls on Mahood River The Mahood River is a river in the northern Shuswap Highland of the Central Interior of British Columbia in Wells Gray Provincial Park. The Mahood River has cut a deep canyon into Cambrian rocks and Pleistocene glacial moraines. The Mahood River drops over two waterfalls.

The White River originates at White Pass, the pass separating the White River headwaters from the headwaters of the North Fork Sauk River, and flows east until its confluence with Thunder Creek. Wales has many waterfalls, including some of the most striking in the United Kingdom. One such is the Pistyll Rhaeadr near the village of Llanrhaeadr-ym-Mochnant. It is formed as a mountain stream drops over a cliff and changes character to a lowland river, the Afon Rhaeadr. The site was designated by the Countryside Council for Wales as the 1000th Site of Special Scientific Interest in Wales, because of its importance to an understanding of Welsh geomorphology.

Mount Hesperus is the highest peak of the Revelation Mountains, the westernmost subrange of the Alaska Range. The Revelations are a small, rarely visited range, but they contain dramatic rock peaks, rising from low bases. Mount Hesperus is particularly impressive in terms of local relief: for example, it drops over 7,500 feet (2,286m) in less than 2 miles (3,219m) on two sides. Such steepness for this amount of relief makes Hesperus comparable to the best peaks in North America.

Boundary Falls is a locality in the Boundary Country of the Southern Interior of British Columbia, south of the city of Greenwood and west of the city of Grand Forks, British Columbia. The small community, which consists of only a few small buildings, lies on the north banks of Boundary Creek at the head of a canyon the creek flows into. Not far downstream from the town, within the canyon, the creek drops over Boundary Falls, for which the town was named.

Depot Creek begins at an unnamed lake Whatcom County, Washington State, United States, located in a cirque between Mount Redoubt and Mount Spickard. The creek exits the lake and flows northwest into a large, swamp- like area at the top of Depot Creek Falls. The creek then drops over the falls and reaches the bottom of the valley. From here the creek flows northwest, passes into British Columbia, Canada, and reaches its mouth at Chilliwack Lake near the lake's south end.

The airfield was located near the railhead on the main railroad line to Chittagong. The mountain's massif is covered almost entirely by icefields and glaciers and is the principal source of ice for the Kennicott Glacier, which flows southeast over to just above the town of McCarthy. The Middle Fork originates at Helen Lake in the high Sierra, near Muir Pass in Kings Canyon National Park. From its headwaters at above sea level, it descends rapidly east down Le Conte Canyon, turning south at Big Pete Meadow. It passes the Le Conte Ranger Station and receives Dusy Creek from the east and then the much larger Palisade Creek, also from the east, a short distance downstream. Flowing south, it enters a narrower canyon where it drops over a waterfall known as Devil's Washbowl.

In this reach, stream pools, which tend to become stagnant during low flow periods, are abundant. Continuing on down the gradually widening valley, San Juan Creek turns westwards and drops over several more falls, before finally widening to about .

It starts off by flowing northeast before soon turning northwest, being joined by the stream draining Mazama and Iceberg Lakes, and dropping over massive Mazama Falls. The Yoho River originates at the north end of Yoho National Park and flows generally south to join the Kicking Horse River some distance northeast of Field. It begins at the toe of the Yoho Glacier and flows within from its source it has already received the waters of Waves Creek, Twin Falls Creek, Fairy Creek & the Little Yoho River. It continues south for another to its confluence with the stream Takakkaw Falls is on. Along that stretch is a significant canyon in which the river drops over at least one major waterfall.

Selfoss in 2014 thumb The Waterfall Selfoss Selfoss is a waterfall on the river Jökulsá á Fjöllum in the north of Iceland. The river drops over a number of waterfalls over about 30 km before flowing into Öxarfjörður, a bay of the Arctic Sea. The river originates as melt water from the glacier Vatnajökull and therefore the water flow varies depending on the season, the weather and volcanic activity. A few hundred meters downstream of the Selfoss waterfall ( high), the Dettifoss waterfall is situated, the most powerful waterfall in Europe.

Karun River is Iran's longest at a length of 950 km, crossing the valley on its winding path. Adding to the beauty of the valley is a waterfall that gushes out from the heart of the mountains and drops over 100 meters. The land between the Ramapo fault and the fault west of Paterson lowered, thus the Boonton Gorge was born. The river flows over rocks then cascades over a thirty foot water fall into an oval shaped pool of water with a rock in the center. This pool is about fifty yards long and was a swimming hole until a local ordinance prohibited swimming in 1990 (Ord. 205-5). Then the river drops over a small falls of about seven feet and flows under an arched stone walk-way bridge.

An airdrop in 1986 It is the oldest ongoing Department of Defense mission which remains in full operation, and the longest running humanitarian airlift in the world. By 2006, more than of supplies were delivered. The operation gives troops the chance to practice humanitarian aid drops, as the troops will later be expected to conduct drops over Iraq or Afghanistan after deployment. Volunteers from Andersen Air Force Base, including 734th Air Mobility Squadron, and both crew and aircraft from the 36th Airlift Squadron at Yokota Air Base, Japan, participate in the operation.

Maxwell Creek is a stream in the municipality of Georgian Bluffs, Grey County in Southwestern Ontario, Canada. It is in geographic Derby Township, is part of the Great Lakes Basin and is a right tributary of the Pottawatomi River. The creek begins at the confluence of two unnamed streams at an elevation of , southeast of the settlement of Squire. It flows north, drops over the Niagara Escarpment, passes under Ontario Highway 21, and reaches its mouth at the Pottawatomi River at an elevation of , west of Owen Sound and east of the settlement of Springmount.

The Wallace River begins at the divide between it and Salmon Creek. It flows west from here until it enters Wallace Falls State Park, where it flows southwest and drops over three large waterfalls, receives the North Fork Wallace River just below the final falls, before going in a westward direction again. It receives three large tributaries in short order before passing under the Stevens Pass Highway, Olney Creek, May Creek and Bear Creek. After flowing under the highway, it continues west until it reaches its confluence with the Skykomish.

Below Slide Canyon it receives Camp Creek and Rock Creek then descends steeply southwest into Benson Lake. After emerging from the southern end of the lake it flows through an area known as Pleasant Valley, where it passes the smaller Saddle Horse, Irwin Bright and Table Lakes, then drops over a long series of cascading waterfalls into the Grand Canyon of the Tuolumne. It joins with the Tuolumne River in Pate Valley, about upstream from Hetch Hetchy Reservoir. Piute Creek has also been known as Cascade Creek and Slide Creek.

Shortly downstream of there, it drops over Hermit Falls and flows into Santa Anita Reservoir, which is impounded by the Santa Anita Dam. Leaving the foothills the creek continues southwards through Sierra Madre, Monrovia and Arcadia as the Santa Anita Wash, flowing in a concrete channel. It turns southeast towards Azusa, then south again at Irwindale, where it empties into a small flood control basin. The water continues out of the basin as the Rio Hondo, which flows southwards to junctions with the San Gabriel River and the Los Angeles River.

Sandstone rocks litter the ground at the Jim Bales Place The source of Roaring Fork is located nearly up along the northern slopes of Mount Le Conte, where several small springs converge. The highest of these springs, known as Basin Spring, provides the water source for LeConte Lodge.Carson Brewer, Great Smoky Mountains National Park (Portland, Oregon: Graphic Arts Center Publishing, 1993), 11. From its source, Roaring Fork drops over just two miles (3 km), spilling over Grotto Falls and absorbing Surry Creek before steadying in a narrow valley between Mount Winnesoka and Piney Mountain.

The volcano heated glacial water then flooded down the volcano's vent, creating violent steam explosions and broken lava fragments. Once the steam explosions had subsided, the broken lava fragments settled back into the glacial water, creating the unvolcano-like form of White Horse Bluff which is mostly made of fragmental volcanic glass called hyaloclastite. The volcano ceased erupting soon after breaching the surface of the glacial water. Osprey Falls drops over the lava dam at outlet of Clearwater Lake Other volcanic events elsewhere interacted with groundwater and magma creating numerous pit craters.

Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park is a state park in California, 12 miles south of Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park on California's Pacific coast.See Monterey: Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park A main feature of the park is McWay Falls, which drops over a cliff of into the Pacific Ocean. The park is also home to redwoods which are over 2,500 years old. The park is named after Julia Pfeiffer Burns, a respected resident and rancher in the Big Sur region in the early 20th century, who lived in the area for much of her life until her death in 1928.

North of Little Valley it flows into northeast Shasta County and the Shasta National Forest. Then the river reaches Fall River Valley, where it is joined by the Fall River, which is fed by one of the largest freshwater spring systems in the United States. After passing through the town of Fall River Mills, the river drops over Pit River Falls, then enters the head of a long serpentine canyon that cuts through the southern Cascade Range. It then turns south to join the Sacramento River as the eastern arm of Shasta Lake reservoir, approximately north of Redding.

Twister Falls (also known as Crossover Falls, Crisscross Falls, Bowtie Falls, and Eagle Creek Falls) is a prominent waterfall that is formed as Eagle Creek cascades into a narrow canyon and forms two streams that appear to "twist" around each other, hence the name "twister". The falls begin with a small sliding cascade that drops over a rocky slope into a pool, followed by some rapids. The next tier is the twisting tier, which plunges . Before this point, a small portion of the stream splits off and makes a sheer plunge of approximately equal height down the canyon.

At the bend in the upper reaches of the Murr it is joined by its larger streams, the Otterbach and Fornsbach. In Murrhardt it is joined by the Trauzenbach and Hörschbach, and, further downstream to the west, the Harbach, Eschelbach and Haselbach. It flows, like numerous smaller streams, for much of its way through wooded klingen and sometimes drops over rock ledges, as the Hörschbach does at its two high waterfalls. The largest lake in the Murrhardt Forest is the Waldsee ("Forest Lake"), near the village of Fornsbach, which has an area of 2 hectares and is open to tourists.

Above the hamlet of Trinafour the river is impounded behind Errochty Dam as Loch Errochty. The Bruar Water arises from the confluence of several headwater streams at OS grid ref NN 819804 and flows southwards through Glen Bruar for several miles. to the northeast of the village of Calvine it drops over the Falls of Bruar and shortly afterwards enters the Garry on its left bank. The River Tilt arises from the confluence of the Tarf Water with the Allt Garbh Buidhe at OS grid ref NN 983797 from which point it flows in a southwesterly direction down the fault-aligned Glen Tilt.

Although calm for the first few miles, this quickly changes as the river drops over Tuolumne Falls and White Cascades. After briefly passing through Glen Aulin, the river enters the spectacular Grand Canyon of the Tuolumne, where it forms three more major waterfalls – California, LeConte and Waterwheel Falls. Return and Piute Creeks join the river from the north within the Tuolumne Canyon. At the end of the canyon the river widens into Hetch Hetchy Reservoir, formed by a dam built in 1923 to provide water to the city of San Francisco, in the scenic Hetch Hetchy Valley.

The Clowhom originates at the outlet of a tiny, unnamed lake on the south slopes of Mount Jimmy Jimmy. It flows south from there for about 4.4 km until it enters remote Phantom Lake. The river turns east upon exiting Phantom Lake and very soon drops over tall Phantom Falls,Waterfalls of the Pacific Northwest: Phantom Falls which is rumored to stand at least 500 feet high. From Phantom Falls, the river runs east for about 4.4 km before turning south for about 5.7 miles and then southwest for about 5 km before entering the north end of Clowhom Lake.

To the east, the Muro Blanco cliffs rise more than half a mile (0.8 km) above the river. The river flows into Paradise Valley, where it flows in a south-southwest direction, and receives Woods Creek from the east directly below a footbridge that carries the Woods Creek Trail over the river. Until this point the river has been more or less continuous whitewater; in Paradise Valley the gradient lessens and the current slows. Below Paradise Valley the river once again flows through a narrow gorge where it drops over Mist Falls, one of the largest waterfalls in the park.

British B-24 and Mosquito bombers then undertook reconnaissance and leaflet drops over Malayan cities after the surrender announcement. One Mosquito bomber developed engine problems and was forced to land at the Japanese held Sungai Besi aerodrome near Kuala Lumpur. The Japanese provided assistance to the aircrews until they were picked up by another Mosquito.

Kaaterskill Creek rises in the town of Hunter within the Catskill Forest Preserve, northwest of the village of Tannersville. It flows south to the hamlet of Haines Falls, where it turns east and drops precipitously into Kaaterskill Clove, paralleled by New York Route 23A and receiving Spruce Creek from the north, which drops over Kaaterskill Falls. Kaaterskill Creek exits the mountains at the hamlet of Palenville and takes a zigzag course, crossing back and forth between Greene and Ulster counties, before finally turning northeast and flowing to its mouth at Catskill Creek near Cauterskill, New York, just west of the village of Catskill.

Between the upper falls and the main falls, the creek winds through a small, fern- bounded meadow at the bottom of a steep ravine with mossy rock walls that rise over 50 feet (15m) above the canyon floor. The creek then drops over the main falls, which pours out of a small gully that resembles a hanging valley,Tiptoe Falls - Andey's Waterfall Photos while a small trickle of water splits off towards the right bank and drops along with the main cascade into a round, rock-bound clear pool. The North Mowich River's headwater tributaries drain North Mowich Glacier near an area of Mount Rainier called Division Rook. Shortly below the toe of the glacier, the river drops over a large wall, forming Moraine Falls, the first of two waterfalls on the river, both of which are very difficult to access and would take several days to reach on foot. Giant Falls, just as difficult to reach, is located a ways downstream of Moraine Falls. Ptarmigan Ridge separates the North Mowich River's headwaters from Spray Park, much of which is drained by other tributaries of the North Mowich River.

There are 2,500-year-old oyster shell middens (heaps) along the banks of the Damariscotta River, which occupies a drowned river valley leading to the Gulf of Maine, a large embayment of the Atlantic Ocean. The Damariscotta River begins at the outlet of Damariscotta Lake, at Damariscotta Mills, a village straddling the boundary between the towns of Newcastle and Nobleboro. Damariscotta Lake extends north into the town of Jefferson and is fed from tributaries originating as far north as Washington and Somerville, Maine. From the lake's outlet, the Damariscotta River drops over just through Damariscotta Mills before reaching tidewater, at an arm of the river known as Salt Bay.

Angel Falls (; Pemon language: Kerepakupai Meru meaning "waterfall of the deepest place", or Parakupá Vená, meaning "the fall from the highest point") is a waterfall in Venezuela. It is the world's highest uninterrupted waterfall, with a height of and a plunge of . The waterfall drops over the edge of the Auyán-tepui mountain in the Canaima National Park (Spanish: Parque Nacional Canaima), a UNESCO World Heritage site in the Gran Sabana region of Bolívar State. The height figure, , mostly consists of the main plunge but also includes about of sloped cascade and rapids below the drop and a high plunge downstream of the talus rapids.

Mount Salisbury is a peak in the Fairweather Range of Alaska, 6 miles (10 km) southeast of Mount Fairweather. Its east slopes feed one of the northern branches of the Johns Hopkins Glacier, which flows into Glacier Bay. On its western side is a large cirque, shared with Mount Fairweather, Mount Quincy Adams, and Lituya Mountain, which heads the Fairweather Glacier; this flows almost to the Pacific coast at Cape Fairweather. Though not exceptional in terms of absolute elevation, Mount Salisbury does possess great vertical relief over local terrain: for example, the southwest side of the mountain drops over to the Johns Hopkins Glacier in only five miles.

Twyford Bridge crosses the River Medway. It is just downstream of the automatic sluice where the river drops from +11.2m to +7.41m above mean sea level, the navigation bears left through the Hampstead Rd Canal, and the Hampstead Lock, the main stream drops over the weir and sluice and is joined here by the River Teise (Lesser Teise) and both pass under Twyford Bridge. The river then flows in a loop towards the village where it is joined by the River Beult which has passed under Town Bridge. However the main stream of the River Teise flowed into the Beult near Benover, 3 km upstream of Town Bridge.

U.S. and Italian light armor The operation began on 6 December 1992, when Navy SEALs and special warfare combatant-craft crewmen from Naval Special Warfare Task Unit TRIPOLI began conducting beach and port hydrographic and reconnaissance survey operations in the vicinity of the landing beach, airport, and harbor. These operations lasted three days. In the early hours of 8 December 1992, elements of the 4th Psychological Operations Group attached to the 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) conducted leaflet drops over the capital city of Mogadishu. At 0540, on 9 December, the MEU performed a combined methods of entry amphibious assault into the city of Mogadishu and surrounding areas from , , and .

Stronend, at the western margin of the Fintry Hills The Fintry Hills form the western end of a range of hills which stretch west from the city of Stirling, Scotland. They culminate in the peak of Stronend, which overlooks Strathendrick and the village of Fintry. The northern, western and southern sides of the hills are defined by a steep and craggy escarpment, whilst the eastern sides run more gently down into the valley of the Backside Burn and Endrick Water. The Boquhan Burn, which runs initially northeastwards, drops over the northern scarp at the Spout of Ballochleam. Loch Walton lies at the foot of the hills’ southern slopes.

Now incised into a narrow channel and meandering around sandbars and gravel bars, the river drops over rapid after rapid and turns south as it receives Dillon Creek from the right, from the mouth. Ti Creek enters from the left and Rock Creek from the right as the river continues to flow south through a steep and narrow gorge, cutting through the Cascade Range itself. The valley of the Klamath gradually transitions from an arid high desert to a temperate rainforest climate. [NOTE: THE MILEAGES FROM HERE ON ARE ALL MUCH TOO LOW; FOR EXAMPLE, BLUFF CREEK IS ABOUT 52 MILES FROM THE MOUTH.

The two areas of greatest and most rapid temperature change in the oceans are the transition zone between the surface waters and the deep waters, the thermocline, and the transition between the deep-sea floor and the hot water flows at the hydrothermal vents. Thermoclines vary in thickness from a few hundred meters to nearly a thousand meters. Below the thermocline, the water mass of the deep ocean is cold and far more homogeneous. Thermoclines are strongest in the tropics, where the temperature of the epipelagic zone is usually above 20 °C. From the base of the epipelagic, the temperature drops over several hundred meters to 5 or 6 °C at 1,000 meters.

I-535 begins in the city of Superior, at the junction of US 53 and Wisconsin Highway 35 (WIS 35) and continues northwest across the John Blatnik Bridge over the Saint Louis Bay of Lake Superior. The freeway crosses from Wisconsin into Minnesota on the bridge and then meets an interchange for Garfield Avenue and the Port Terminal in the city of Duluth. I-535 ends at the junction of US 53 and I-35 known locally as the "Can of Worms" interchange, which features a pair of left exits from I-35, a stoplight, and lane drops over the I-35 bridge. I-535 is the shortest Interstate in both Minnesota and Wisconsin.

The falls consist of one main chute that drops over a vertical cliff (due to the high mineral content of the water, the falls are ever-changing and sometimes break into two separate chutes of water) into a large pool. The falls are known for their natural pools, created by mineralization, although most of these pools were damaged and/or destroyed in the early 1990s by large floods that washed through the area. A small man-made dam was constructed to help restore the pools and to preserve what is left. There are many picnic tables on the opposite side of the creek and it is very easy to cross over by following the edges of the pools.

Hadestown (Original Broadway Cast Recording) is the official recording of the Broadway production of Hadestown. It was originally announced to be released on June 7, 2019 on all major digital and streaming platforms, but on May 31 it was revealed that due to delays in production only a selection of music would be released on that date, with the rest of the cast album released in "character drops" over the course of the next few weeks, with the full album available on July 26. A compact disc and vinyl release followed on November 1 and November 29, 2019 respectively. Unlike the original live recording, the Broadway cast recording contains the complete score.

Filby IV, who becomes infatuated with "Alma" when he catches sight of her through his spyglass. He promptly drops over to announce himself by way of a secret tunnel leading from his mansion to Al and Sal's cabin - their cabin used to be used to house women the former own was conducting illicit liaisons with him. The cheerful old man merrily introduces himself, making it quite obvious how attracted he is to "Alma" by both his words and his repeat fondling of Al's rump, oblivious to how this nearly gets him killed by the outraged hitman.

Hamilton Lake and the Valhalla Cliffs at the headwaters of the Kaweah River The Kaweah River originates along the Great Western Divide, a chain of peaks in the middle of Sequoia National Park. The divide separates the Kaweah drainage from the Kern River drainage to the east. The Middle Fork, sometimes considered part of the main stem, flows southwest from the confluence of Lone Pine Creek and Hamilton Creek, whose lake sources lie at or above in the Mount Stewart area. The Marble Fork begins in a high plateau area known as the Tableland and drops over a glacial headwall, forming Tokopah Falls, before flowing west past Lodgepole Village and turning south.

The source of Lemon Stream is a spring located above sea level between Little Mountain and Caswell Mountain. It flows southeasterly across the northeast corner of Industry, enters Somerset County through the southwest corner of Anson, and then meets the larger Sandy River which forms the southern boundary of Starks. It is not to be confused with the deeply shadowed north-flowing brook in New Portland, Maine of the same name. Lemon Stream flows from upper level wetlands on the southeastward slopes of the New Vineyard mountains, drops over numerous falls into the fields of upper Lemon Stream valley, then moves south through the sugar maple woodlands into the lower Lemon Stream valley.

The West Branch of the Little Magalloway River is a New Hampshire GRANIT state geographic information system river in northern New Hampshire and northwestern Maine in the United States. It is a tributary of the Little Magalloway River, located in the Androscoggin River watershed of Maine and New Hampshire. The West Branch rises in Pittsburg, New Hampshire, in Stub Pond (3,480 feet above sea level), just northeast of the 3,627 foot summit of Stub Hill, the highest point in Pittsburg. The brook-sized river drops over 1,200 feet in 1.5 miles off the north slope of Stub Hill, then turns east and enters Maine, descending another 700 feet before joining the Little Magalloway a short distance upstream from Aziscohos Lake.

The river pours out of an unnamed glacier, surrounded by peaks such as Mount Goodall, the Park's second highest at ; Mount Pierrway, #5 at ; Mount Winder, #9 at ; Mount Beaman, Mount Hogg and Mount Aves. All six were named in 1966 in honour of Canadian soldiers from the Quesnel area killed in action during World War II. The first of the Clearwater is through a broad U-shaped glacial valley before it enters Hobson Lake. Mountains along the east shore of Hobson Lake include Twin Spires; Mount Hugh Neave, seventh highest in the Park at ; and Garnet Peak, third highest at . Below Hobson Lake, the Clearwater drops over a series of low waterfalls and many rapids, descending in the next .

Leaving Merced Lake, the river continues to the west northwest for where the canyons open up into Echo Valley. The river then turns generally westward for another , where it snakes through a spectacular narrow gorge between massive, glacially resistant granite cliffs. The gorge opens up after Bunnell Point and Sugarloaf Dome confine the river to form Bunnell Cascade, before turning southward through the Lost Valley of the Merced, and then spills over a granite cliff into Little Yosemite Valley, named for its resemblance to Yosemite Valley downstream. The Merced River drops over Nevada Falls and Vernal Falls, together known as the "Giant Staircase", then receives Illilouette Creek and flows into Yosemite Valley, where it meanders between pine forests and meadows that fill the valley floor.

US 53 enters the state at the city of Duluth on the John Blatnik Bridge over the Saint Louis Bay. US 53 runs concurrently with I-535 for as it enters Minnesota. I-535/US 53 has an interchange with I-35 in Duluth, known locally as the "Can of Worms"; it features a pair of left exits from I-35, a stoplight and lane drops over the I-35 bridge. After its junction with I-35, US 53 continues through Duluth on Piedmont Avenue and Trinity Road for . US 53 then runs concurrently with State Highway 194 (MN 194) for , from Trinity Road in Duluth to Lindahl Road in the city of Hermantown. This four- lane stretch of US 53 and MN 194 are also known as the Miller Trunk Highway in the cities of Duluth and Hermantown.

Design plan for Wheeler Dam, circa 1933 The stretch of the Tennessee River between Decatur and Florence drops over in elevation, creating what was once a series of rapids known as the Muscle Shoals and the Elk River Shoals. Along with the Tennessee River Gorge to the east, these shoals had long been an impediment to river navigation, effectively isolating the upper Tennessee Valley from the nation's major inland waterways. Canal work in the 19th century had improved navigation through the shoals, but were insufficient for major river traffic. In 1898, Congressman Joe Wheeler introduced legislation in Congress that obtained federal funding for navigation improvements. The construction of Wilson Dam in the 1920s and various other improvements helped create a channel over the shoals, but even then navigation was only possible during times of high water flow.

The village of Medlin was located where modern Haw Gap Branch ("Haw Creek" on old maps) empties into Hazel Creek (the townsite is now Campsite 84 at the junction of Jenkins Ridge Trail and the Hazel Creek Trail). On the way, she also comes across four other diamonds: the Yellow Diamond, which was kept in the Art Museum and drove Carrie insane; the Blue Diamond, which was floating about Kuru Ruins and stirring things up (it brought a stone statue to life and even took control of a swarm of fish); the Green Diamond, which the unnamed police warden used to animate his massive robot, with which he battles Jill; and the Dark Diamond, which gave Croog his alien appearance and unimaginable power. At the end, the Dark Diamond shatters and Croog's alien face falls off, revealing it to be a mask. Croog's true face is unknown, as a head of long blond hair drops over his eyes and he runs off- screen, sobbing and concealing his appearance with his hands.

Team Fortress 2 originally featured a realistic visual style In contrast to the original Team Fortress, Valve originally planned Team Fortress 2 to have a modern war aesthetic. It would feature a command hierarchy including a Commander class, parachute drops over enemy territory, networked voice communication, and numerous other innovations. The Commander class played similarly to a real- time strategy game, with the player viewing the game from a bird's-eye perspective and issuing orders to players and AI-controlled soldiers. Team Fortress 2 was first shown at E3 1999, where Valve showcased new technologies including parametric animation, which blended animations for smoother, more lifelike movement, and Intel's multi-resolution mesh technology, which dynamically reduced the detail of distant on-screen elements to improve performance.
