Bryn Arw Bryn Arw is a hill in the Black Mountains of the Brecon Beacons National Park in Monmouthshire, south Wales. It lies 4 km north of the town of Abergavenny and 1.5 miles west of the village of Llanvihangel Crucorney. Its summit at 384m (1260 feet) above sea level is the more northerly of two tops which lie on the crest of a slightly arcuate north-south ridge which drops away to the south at first gently and then sharply. The hill is isolated from the main mass of the range by the valleys of Cwm Coed-y-cerig to the north and by Cwm Brynarw to the west.

To the north and east of the hillfort, the valley drops away steeply to the Fowey and to a tributary stream, both at circa elevation; to the south-west the land rises slowly to a local maximum of at a distance of .

Sgùrr Fhuaran is a distinctive peak with steep slopes which drop away to Glen Shiel on its western flank at an angle of over 30 degrees giving the mountain a feeling of great height. It has four main ridges, the best known of these is the WNW ridge which is conspicuous in views from Glen Shiel, it drops away precipitously from the summit to descend in just over to the River Shiel in the valley. The southern ridge connects to the adjoining Munro of , which lies away. The eastern ridge which is a narrow knife edge in places gives a dramatic ascent route from Glenlicht House at the head of the remote Gleann Lichd.

The large barn is estimated, based on construction techniques and materials, to date to about 1880, and was apparently built by Hathaway in anticipation of increased demand for dairy products, occasioned by a boom demand for cheese and butter in Maine markets in the 1870s. The barn is similar in plan to one built at the University of Maine at Orono in 1873 (no longer extant), and was apparently promoted by the state as an ideal dairy barn. The barn is an timber frame structure, set on a high granite foundation, and faces roughly northeast. A retaining wall on the east side further supports the barn as the ground drops away to the south, providing ground-level access to the basement.

Within the village live a mix of "Foresters", the original inhabitants, many of whom can trace their family lineage back through the village's history, and incomers from further afield. The community has a nice balance and there is a sense of community spirit evident here, with neighbours helping each other. From the village green, perched 600 ft above sea level, on a fine day you can see north for up to 50 miles or so into Shropshire, whilst the counties of Gloucestershire, Herefordshire, Monmouthshire, Worcestershire and the Brecon Beacons are also visible. The hillside drops away to some farming communities, whilst the eastern edge of the hamlet is bounded by the main Monmouth to Gloucester road and the start of the Forest of Dean proper.

At above sea level, Kalamunda and the surrounding areas experience colder night temperatures than the bulk of the Perth Metropolitan area to the west. Deep clay soils in the valleys in this area provide ideal growing conditions for stone fruits, apples and pears,wine production and for a small commercial rose growing industry. The suburb of Gooseberry Hill is located to the north of Kalamunda where the terrain drops away sharply to the Helena Valley effectively isolating Kalamunda from other Darling Scarp population centres to the north. To the south and east the urban area transitions into the semi-rural and orchard growing areas of Bickley, Carmel and Pickering Brook, which in turn give way to extensive jarrah and marri forests.

The Zirler Berg is on the southeastern extremity of the Seefeld Plateau, which is roughly 1,200 m above sea level and lies between the Wetterstein (north), Karwendel (east) and Mieminger Ranges (west) and drops away to the Inn valley to the south and 600 metres below. The summit of the Zirler lies southeast of Reith and Leithen in the woods of the Zirler Wald, which cover the mountainside down to the Tiroler Straße (B 171) between Zirl and Telfs. About 2.5 kilometres north of the Zirler Berg rises the Rauenkopf (2,011 m), which leads to the Reither Spitze (2,374 m) north of that, and about 2.5 kilometres northeast is the Brunstkopf (1,719 m), all peaks within the Erlspitze Group. A tributary of the Inn, the Schlossbach, flows through the gorge of Schlossbachklamm to the east.

At Boquet, it makes an abrupt turn to go due east back to the lakeshore and ferry landing at Essex, where it connects to the Charlotte–Essex Ferry via Dock Street, leading to VT F-5 on the opposite side of Lake Champlain. alt=A two-lane highway in a wooded area during autumn. Then, the road drops away again very suddenly, which is the second huge jump of the Pflanzgarten known as the Sprunghügel. The road then goes downhill then quickly levels out, then it goes through a flat-out right hander and this starts the Stefan Bellof S (named as such because Bellof crashed a Porsche 956 there during the 1983 Nurburgring 1000 km), which was known as Pflanzgarten 2 prior to 2013. The Stefan Bellof S is very tricky because the road quickly switches back left and right—a car is going so fast through here that it is like walking on a tightrope. It is very difficult to find the racing line here because the curves come up so quickly, so it is hard to find any point of reference.

Despite the poor site choice, valuable resources of time, money and supplies had already been spent on the barrier system and, by July 1942, it was resolved to continue with its construction. To protect this newly-discovered access point via the superseded road, the wooden barrier system was extended across what is now Waterfall Way ('Southern Block'). This section then ran from this point up to the crest of the ridge overlooking the old mined Armidale-Ebor Road (the "Central" and '75 Blocks'). While the mined roadway is largely protected on its eastern side by the steep ridge, to the west the landscape drops away into a gully with a marshy creek at the bottom and, to protect this section of the site, the "Tunnel Block" was constructed and extended from the roadside to a rocky outcrop, midway to the creek.

Ullock Pike drops away steeply on its eastern side to the little-known valley of Southerndale while its western slopes, which are clothed in woodland lower down, fall to Bassenthwaite Lake. When viewed from the north Ullock Pike is observed as a slender peak which catches the eye but from other directions it is seen as just a bump at the end of Longside Edge. The fell of Long Side is just 600 metres away along the ridge to the south west and Ullock Pike has just 14 metres of topographic prominence from it and therefore fails to qualify as a Hewitt or a Nuttall and relies on Wainwright to give it the status of a separate fell, which he does mainly because of the quality of the view and the excellence of its form from the north. Ullock Pike has a low-lying outlying top, which stands 1.5 kilometres away along the northern ridge and has the unusual name of ‘Watches’.
