He graduated from high school in Southbridge, Massachusetts, and in January 1942, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps Reserve. He was killed in action on Iwo Jima on March 9, 1945, following a one-man assault on enemy-occupied trenches and fortified positions.

Richard Andrew Poplawski (born September 12, 1986) lived with his mother and grandmother in the Stanton Heights neighborhood of Pittsburgh. Poplawski had previously enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, but he was discharged from boot camp after throwing a food tray at a drill instructor. On September 14, 2005, Poplawski allegedly assaulted his then-girlfriend outside his home. A month later, Poplawski allegedly violated an order of protection by showing up at the woman's place of work.

Huff, a native of Gadsden, Alabama, enlisted in the Marine Corps on September 24, 1942, as one of the first African-Americans to do so. During World War II he was part of the group of Wewak residents led by Bert Jones that walked to Wau. He stayed in Goroka before being transferred to Port Moresby where he served as a drill instructor. In 1942 he began service as a coastwatcher and was dropped off near Cape Orford by an American submarine in April 1943. Between October 1943 and April 1944 his party switched to guerrilla operations, with Simogun leading attacks on the Japanese, only losing two of his men while killing around 260 Japanese soldiers.

They receive a thorough round of inoculations, an initial issue of uniforms, and their first military haircut. They are taught basic grooming standards, the Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ), and standards of conduct and are introduced to their recruit division commander (drill instructor). This first week of training, called P-days (processing days), lasts for approximately five days but can run a little longer depending on weekends, holidays, and the schedule of arriving recruits. Puckett returned to the Marine Corps in July 1947, and was returned to San Diego. In late 1947, he received orders to sea duty and spent two and a half years aboard the cruiser . He was promoted to corporal in May 1948, then returned to San Diego where he served as a drill instructor until 1951. Physical training also prepares the future Drill Instructors for the Marine Corps Physical Fitness Test which consists of pull-ups, abdominal crunches, and a 3-mile timed run. In 1916, Digby-Worsley was evacuated from France to the Red Cross Hospital in Gloucester with a severe case of trench foot, after serving in Flanders for only two months. Digby-Worsley's mother then attempted to have him excused from further duty at the front on grounds of age. Tilley's first assignment was to the Republic of Vietnam with A Troop, 1st Squadron, 4th Cavalry Regiment as a vehicle crewman. Baker enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1958, and served as an enlisted Marine for nine years. From 1962 to 1964, he served a tour as a drill instructor. Shadow of the Sword: A Marine's Journey of War, Heroism, and Redemption () is an autobiographical account of post-traumatic stress disorder by Jeremiah Workman, who served with the US Marine Corps in the Iraq War. Workman received the Navy Cross for gallantry under fire after killing twenty insurgents in Fallujah, Iraq, on December 23, 2004, but later suffered flashbacks reliving the death of three fellow marines in the battle. He also describes having been ordered to "push at least two recruits into suicide attempts" while a drill instructor, an episode that a WSJ reviewer calls "the only part of the book that sounds implausible, given the standards that define the Marines".

The primary duties of the Career Retention Specialist include assisting enlisted Marines with reenlistments, lateral movements, extensions, and special duty assignments such as Recruiting Duty, Drill Instructor Duty, Marine Security Guard, Marine Corps Security Forces, and Marine Combat Instructor. The Career Retention Specialist is responsible for identifying, screening, and interviewing Marines for retention and special duties listed above. A large part of the Career Retention Specialist's job is to advise and counsel Marines on how they can become more competitive for promotion and retention. Rumours spread that England was in arms for the cause of reform and that an army was mustering at Campsie commanded by Marshal MacDonald, a Marshal of France and son of a Jacobite refugee family, to join forces with 50,000 French soldiers at Cathkin Braes under Kinloch, the fugitive "Radical laird" from Dundee. Because of the rigorous nature of the SAI program and the extent to which the success of the program is dependent upon the performance of staff, it is imperative that staff, particularly custody staff, be carefully selected and appropriately trained and that their performance be carefully evaluated. To achieve these objectives, the SAI program has developed entry-level physical conditioning standards for new corrections officers and obtained the approval of the Michigan Corrections Officers Training Council (MCOTC) to implement them. All uniformed custody staff must complete a three-week SAI drill instructor training program. Instructional materials used in this training are published in instructional manuals in pocketbook format to facilitate staff reference.

Progressive training takes place for Adult Instructors, as with cadets, an Adult Instructor may take part in a variety of different courses. Cyber's earliest known confrontation with Logan seemingly occurred around World War I, where he served as Logan's brutal drill instructor during his early days in the military. Cyber is given instructions to focus his attention on Logan in particular, and eventually receives orders to murder a woman at the base known only as Janet, in whom Logan was interested romantically, to further dehumanize his conditioning. Meanix competed in the 1920 United States Olympic Trials, but was eliminated in the semi-finals and failed to qualify for the Olympic team; instead, he (and Smart, who had also failed to qualify) represented the United States in post-Olympic meets against teams from France, Sweden and the British Empire. In 1923 Meanix was appointed as Tufts College's track and field coach. He later returned to his former high school, the English High School, and had a long career there as a military drill instructor. During World War II Meanix returned to active Army service, now with the rank of major, and commanded an Army Specialized Training Unit at Northwestern University.

At a farewell ceremony in Krasnoyarsk, a band of young Soviet Army recruits is preparing to leave for military duty. Lyutyi (Artur Smolyaninov) one of the conscripts forms a group along with Chugun (Ivan Kokorin), Gioconda (Konstantin Kryukov), Ryaba (Mikhail Evlanov), Stas (Artyom Mikhalkov), Seryi (Ivan Nikolaev), and Vorobey (Aleksey Chadov). They have different talents and personalities that made it hard for them to form a bond with each other at first. On arrival at their bootcamp in the Fergana Valley of Uzbekistan, they meet another recruit, Pinochet (Soslan Fidarov), a Chechen recruit from Grozny, and their drill instructor, Senior Praporschik Dygalo, a seasoned, traumatized veteran of several tours in Afghanistan and a brutal trainer who treats the recruits harshly.

The United States armed forces assist in the basic and advanced training of enlisted recruits, and also runs the Drill Instructor School which produces new training NCOs for the basic training courses. The NATO Air Training Command-Afghanistan (NATC-A) trains, equips and advises the AAF. There were three NATC-A air expeditionary training groups embedded with AAF air wings at Kabul International Airport (where the AAF Kabul Air Wing), the Kandahar International Airport (where the AAF Kandahar Air Wing) and at Shindand Air Base (where the AAF Shindand Air Wing) are located as well as detachments at smaller AAF locations such as Herat. Ronald Lee Ermey (March 24, 1944 – April 15, 2018) was an American film, television and voice actor, and Marine drill instructor. He achieved fame for his role as Gunnery Sergeant Hartman in the 1987 film Full Metal Jacket, which earned him a Golden Globe nomination for Best Supporting Actor. Ermey was also a United States Marine Corps staff sergeant and an honorary gunnery sergeant. Born in India, and of Irish descent, McCormick was based in Salford. He joined the British Army in 1914 as a band boy, with the title of "Boy" sticking with him throughout his career. While in the army he began boxing and met world flyweight champion Jimmy Wilde who was serving as a drill instructor. He had his first professional fight in 1916, and after a string of victories in 1918 he got a shot at the British light heavyweight title vacated by Dick Smith in April 1919. He won the title after his opponent Harold Rolph was disqualified in the 15th round. During Marine Corps Recruit Training, recruits in formation are prohibited from turning their head or eyes away from their direct front, even when being addressed; when a Drill Instructor (DI) speaks to a recruit, that recruit is expected to stare forward if the DI is oblique to or behind him, and through him if the DI is directly to his front. When instructing recruits, a DI may command "Ears", to which the proper response for the recruits is "Open, sir!" If commanding them to look at him, the DI may command "Eyeballs", (or some other, less formal declaration, such as, "Look here" in any case the required response is the same) to which the recruits also have a formulaic response, in this case "Click." "Snap" is also common.

Ordered to Korea in 1950, Black joined Company H, 3rd Battalion 1st Marines, 1st Marine Division as the commanding officer's driver. As a private first class, he was awarded the Silver Star and Bronze Star for heroic actions at the Chosin Reservoir. His brother, Albert H. Black, also served in this campaign with him. Black returned to the United States in May 1951, and was assigned a member of the security force at Marine Barracks, Dahlgren, Virginia. He completed Recruiters School at Parris Island in July 1953, and was assigned as the Noncommissioned Officer-in-Charge, Recruiting Substation, Allentown, Pennsylvania. Black served as a Platoon Commander of a heavy machine gun platoon with 1st Battalion 9th Marines, 3rd Marine Division in the Western Pacific area from August 1956 to November 1957 when he was ordered to Parris Island to attend Drill Instructor School.

Players compete against each other in a series of edutainment-orientated minigames led by the titular drill instructor. The minigames include "Hell March" where the player must swing the Wii remote to keep in rhythm with the drill instructor's baton while answering questions, "Hell shooting" where the player must use a Wii remote controlled cursor to shoot targets that the instructor tells them to, "Hell calculation", where the player must shoot moving numbered targets to add them up to a specific number the instructor tells them to, and "Hell roll-call", where the player must partake in a game of Simon says and follow the instructor's poses. Meritoriously promoted to corporal in November 1981, Battaglia was transferred to Company I, 3rd Battalion, 6th Marines as an infantry fire team leader. Completing Squad Leaders School, Water Survival Instructor School and Nuclear, Biological and Chemical Defense School, he was reassigned as a squad leader. Meritoriously promoted on October 2, 1982, he was relocated to Weapons Platoon as the 60mm mortar section leader. Completing various deployments, in February 1984, he was transferred to Parris Island, South Carolina, for duty as a Drill Instructor assigned to Company I, 3rd Recruit Training Battalion and the Field Training Unit. In June 1986, Battaglia returned to Company K, 3rd Battalion, 6th Marines, as a platoon sergeant, completing various Landing Force 6th Fleet and Unit Deployments and in October 1987, attended the Senior Non-commissioned Officer Career Course, served as the Regimental Career Planner for the 2d Marine Regiment.

Until the mid-to-late 1980s, corporals were the lowest USMC rank eligible for selection as a drill instructor for USMC recruit training. The history of the rank of corporal in the USMC roughly parallels that of the U.S. Army until 1942. From 1775 until WWII, the Marine Corps used essentially the same rank and organizational structure as its common British and colonial forebears with the Army, as well as the later Continental and U.S. armies.

The FOXHOUND unit turns rogue in Metal Gear Solid as the under Liquid Snake's leadership (Revolver Ocelot, Psycho Mantis, Sniper Wolf, Vulcan Raven and Decoy Octopus) involved in a terrorist revolt on Shadow Moses Island in the hopes of threatening the rest of the world with Metal Gear REX as a second "Outer Heaven" but were defeated/killed by Solid Snake with help from Otacon, the Cyborg Ninja and Meryl Silverburgh.

In 1954, with the war in Korea over, he re-enlisted for six years. and was returned to Korea for his second tour, as a platoon sergeant with Company G, 3rd Battalion, 5th Marines. Upon arrival at AOCS, Zack and his fellow OCs are shocked by the draconian treatment they receive from their head drill instructor, Marine Gunnery Sergeant Emil Foley. Foley makes it clear that AOCS is set up to wash out as many cadets as possible, so that only the most talented will be commissioned as ensigns in the U.S. Navy's $1 million flight training program. Foley also warns the male candidates about the "Puget Sound Debs" (local girls who angle for marriage to a Naval Aviator in order to escape their dull lives and who will not stop at feigning pregnancy, or at actually getting pregnant, to "trap" a potential husband).

The advance party that first arrived landed to find basically an airfield in the middle of the jungle. At that time the base consisted of a runway, parking apron, and a few wooden buildings. A United States Navy Seabee battalion (MCB 5) was soon clearing the jungle and some 10 man tents were hastily erected to sleep and work in. Since the conditions were rugged, the base soon came to be called "The Rose Garden" after the song by Lynn Anderson and the Marine recruiting campaign based on it, saying "We never promised you a rose garden" and depicting a Marine drill instructor addressing a terrified recruit. The squadrons in residence soon included H&MS-15;, MABS-15, VMFA-115 and VMFA-232 with F-4 Phantom IIs, VMA(AW)-533 with A-6 Intruders, VMGR-152 with KC-130 Hercules, and H&MS-36;, Det "D" with CH-46 Sea Knights.

The drill shed was located at the west side of the north end of the parade ground, with the sergeant's quarters and a "new" detached kitchen to the east of the drill shed. The sergeant's quarters was erected for Staff Sergeant-Major Patrick Joseph Gubbins, who was the caretaker for the drill shed and also a drill instructor for the infantry. It was decided that, as the Railway Department had "taken the [former] infantry drill shed for their offices, and put up another instead in old Boundary Street", then the Railway Department should either take over the cottage adjacent to the old drill shed and build Gubbins a new residence at Boundary Street, or move the old cottage. In November 1884 figures were given for moving Gubbin's cottage to Boundary Street, lining and painting it and building a new kitchen and it is likely that this occurred, rather than a new cottage being built.

In accordance with the Japanese era calendar scheme, 1989 in Library War is rendered the first year of the fictional era, rendering 2019 as Seika 31. Library War follows the life of Iku Kasahara, a new recruit in the Kantō Library Base who joined in 2019 after being inspired by a high ranking Kantō Library Defense Force member who saved a book she wanted to buy that was targeted for censorship. After joining, however, she finds the pace to be very demanding, and that her drill instructor Atsushi Dojo seems to have it in for her and working her harder than the other recruits. On multiple occasions, Kasahara shows herself to be reckless, particularly when she puts Dojo in danger by not securing a criminal in the base's library, and later getting involved with Media Betterment Committee agents despite not being a high enough ranked official; in both instances Dojo has to help her out of trouble.

The OCS Platoon sergeant is comparable to the Senior Drill Instructor in an enlisted recruit platoon. Sam Jones (Ken Berry) and his son Mike (Buddy Foster) were recurring characters in the final season of The Andy Griffith Show, setting up the sequel series Mayberry R.F.D.. In 1964, daytime reruns began airing during the fall season and has been in syndication for years. The show was retitled Andy of Mayberry to distinguish the repeat episodes from the new episodes airing in prime time. At the end of season four (May 1964), the backdoor pilot "Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C." aired, and the following September, the spinoff series Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C. debuted with Jim Nabors in the role of Gomer and Frank Sutton as drill instructor Sergeant Vince Carter. In the last episodes of the eighth season, as Andy Griffith was preparing to leave, the character Sam Jones, played by Ken Berry, was introduced as the new star, and the series was retitled Mayberry R.F.D.. In February 1965, he transferred to H&S; Company, 3rd Battalion, 3rd Marine Division, as a platoon sergeant and platoon leader. This assignment was followed by his first tour in Vietnam as a platoon leader, Company G, 2nd Battalion 1st Marines, where he was promoted to gunnery sergeant. He returned to San Diego for a short tour as a drill instructor in August 1967, at which time he was selected for promotion to first sergeant. He was reassigned to the 27th Marine Regiment as the Company First Sergeant. During March 1968, he returned to Vietnam, serving as the First Sergeant of Battery C, 1st LAAM Battalion, MACC-19, 1st Marine Aircraft Wing. Subsequently, he served as Company First Sergeant of Company G, 28th Marine Regiment.

FORM, 1997, 10 The site was presumably subdivided between 1881 and 1895 by the Hassall family. The two surviving trustees of Hassall's estate, Sydney architect Ernest Essington Hassall and Charles Jonathan Hassall, a bank clerk of Maitland, sold the property on 16 September 1903 for 425 pounds to George Edward Morris, of Parramatta, a drill instructor to the newly created Australian Military Forces. This was very low compared with the 1100 pounds paid by Hassall twenty years earlier, the difference possibly reflecting subdivision of the original larger grant in the interim, with Morris buying a smaller allotment. Property values rose in the area near the new Parramatta railway station, which increase combined with the late 19th century boom to motivate many subdivisions. Although these inflated prices evaporated during the 1890s depression, the fall indicated here seems too great to blame on the depression alone. The Parramatta Detail Series of 1895 shows a large gentleman's residence "Abbotsleigh" on the south-eastern corner of Marsden and Campbell Street intersection immediately to the west of Lennox House.

Following the war, Kilowog briefly attempts to resign from the Corps after the Guardians discharge Hal Jordan and allow Sinestro to at least provisionally remain a Lantern, but is convinced to rethink his decision by Salaak due to the obvious upheaval the Corps will have to undergo in future due to the destruction of Mogo. Damian D. “Skipper” Pitts, was raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where he played little league football in the Police Athletic League and on throughout high school. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and left the day of his high school graduation for Bootcamp at Parris Island, SC. Pitts is now a retired U.S. Marine Corps Officer (served on six battlefields including a tour in special operations) currently serving as Chair of the Organizational Development Practice and is a member of the N2Growth Team with Brian Layer CEO, Brigadier General, (retired), John Baldoni, Mike Myatt, John Childress, Patricia H. Lenkov, Joel Garfinkle, Jitendra Singh, and Grant Wattie. In 2013 Pitts founded the Leadership Bar Initiative™, a thought–leadership training and professional development endeavor. He also operates an active coaching practice advising senior executives. Pitts was appointed as the military advisor for the Screen Gems Studios film Stateside and was responsible for training the cast including Val Kilmer and Johnathan Tucker, where he was also asked to play Kilmer’s on‐screen drill instructor.

At the end of the third part, the clone attempts to find the comatose Gauntlet, the drill instructor who had sent MVP to the ill-fated combat training session. However, Gauntlet's weapon, which was taken from an alien who faced off against the alien who controlled the Tactigon in Gauntlet and Armory's origin stories, seemingly takes control of Gauntlet's body forcing him to acquire the sword element of the alien's armor that he recovered when he originally bonded with the alien glove device. The two later battle and KIA stabs Gauntlet to bring him out of his coma, in an effort to face the man rather than the gauntlet weapon. In the concluding part of this storyline, Worst Case Scenario, KIA battles his way through the Initiative to follow trainees Cloud 9, Komodo and Hardball to MVP's first clone in Bulls Gap, where they are attempting to convince the clone to download its memories into a device (and most likely leave himself brain-dead) which could then upload them into KIA to reset his mind.

The Heer, all wearing the correct World War II German uniform, was represented by parade ground figures that included marching officers, marching infantry men, marching flag-carriers, marching musicians, a marching panzer man in his distinctive black uniform, marching Gebirgsjager ("mountain troops"), marching musicians, and cavalry and musicians mounted on horses. The parade ground figures had troops for a guard mounting that included officers standing at attention, enlisted personnel standing at attention or at "present arms", standing flag-carriers, a panzer man saluting, standing musicians, and sentry boxes as well as standing cavalry and standing cavalry musicians. There was a figure of a drill instructor and three figures of new recruits in fatigue uniform doing training exercises. Heer combat troops included Infanterie (series 500/- and 600/-) (riflemen, grenade throwers and machine gun teams), Kavallerie (series 400/-), Artillerie [series 664/-] (crewmen for the tinplate artillery pieces), Nachrichtentruppe ("communications troops") [series 659/-] which included World War I-vintage message dog- and carrier-pigeon-wranglers, Pioniere ("combat engineer and construction troops") [series 662/-] and Krad-Schutzen ("motorcycle troops") [series 990/-] on individual two-passenger motorcycles and three-passenger sidecar models.

Satan's Six were a team of agents of the Kirbyverse's interpretation of Satan himself, created for the sole purpose of causing chaos in the mortal plane. But the continued incompetence of the members always seemed to be their downfall (and humanity's benefit). Members included: Brian Bluedragon, a doltish knight of Arthur's court, Hard Luck Harrigan, a petty gambler and bookie who worked in the 1930s criminal underworld, Dr. Mordius, a Henry Jekyll wannabe, Kuga the Lion-Killer, a warrior of African origin, Dezira, of ancient Babylon, and Frightful, a demon in Satan's employ whose job it was to keep the members in line....a "drill instructor from Hell", so to speak.... The TeenAgents were a group of four teenaged denizens of the Inner City populated by descendants of humans who fled the surface world from persecution as witches and warlocks and discovered and salvaged remnants of the Ninth Men's world that somehow survived "the Great Catastrophe". Their job was to intervene should any of the wild (and most times, monstrous) creatures that populate the bowels of the Earth try to attack the surface world (or as they referred to it, "Upworld").

Technical Sergeant Jim Moore, a strict Drill Instructor on Parris Island, is charged with training recruit Owens, who seemingly has what it takes to become a Marine, but inexplicably caves when the pressure is on. His own reputation now on the line, Moore is convinced he can make Owens into a Marine and pushes him harder, but he continues to falter and very nearly deserts. His commander, Captain Anderson, gives Moore three more days to do something about Owens. After a discussion with Moore and Anderson, during which Owens reveals that his two older brothers were both Marines killed in action in Korea, Anderson is ready to let Owens go, but an surprise visit from Owens's mother further reveals that his father was a Marine Captain and company commander lost during the Marshall Islands invasion in World War II. She admits she mistakenly coddled her only remaining son and begs Anderson not to discharge him, saying that he will never amount to anything if he doesn't make the grade; she tells Moore that her son can handle whatever he dishes out and to keep on him until he finally breaks through his problem when he starts grinning.
