Oswald comes out of his house carrying a bowl filled with bones and offers them to his long-bodied dog named Doxie. Doxie was digging a hole in the yard but immediately dashes toward the bowl upon being called. While he is enjoying his bone meal, Doxie sees a girl poodle walk by from next door. Amazed by her glamour, Doxie is obliged to establish a romantic relationship.

Meanwhile, Oswald, disguised as a surgeon, steps in. As the pretend surgeon considers operation and shows an ax, Doxie is most terrified and flees the clinic. Watching through a window and seeing the frightened dog ran, Oswald is elated, thinking that Doxie is psychologically healed. Doxie returns to the suburbs and reenters the poodle's place where he'll again resume his love urges.

Suddenly, her mistress sees what is happening and runs outside to drive Doxie away, attempting to beat him with a hoe. Doxie goes back into his yard, saddened by how things didn't go his way at the other place. Just then, Oswald comes to see him and is a bit surprised by the dog's depressive state. Oswald thinks Doxie has a serious illness and therefore takes him to a veterinarian.

At the clinic, the emu vet examines Doxie with a stethoscope and an x-ray. In no time, the vet comes out of the emergency room and tells Oswald that no trace of any illness is diagnosed but only "lovesickness." For unknown reasons, Oswald is angered by the news and opts to be the one to "cure" Doxie. Doxie is still in the emergency room, strapped in the bed.

Nevertheless, the poodle's reaction is the same. Desperate to win the poodle's affections, Doxie pretends to leave as he hides behind her cabin. As the girl dog comes out checking the outside, Doxie gives her a surprise kiss. Annoyed rather than flattered, the poodle starts barking.

Doxie is Oswald's second dog, the first being Elmer the Great Dane. The dachshund first made the screen in The Wily Weasel (1937). His swan song was in Soup to Mutts (1939). Though retired from animated cartoons that year, Doxie appeared in the cover of an Oswald the Rabbit comic book: see Oswald the Lucky Rabbit#Career in comics.

Elmer made his screen debut in Elmer the Great Dane (1935) and was originally the pet dog of Oswald, back when the rabbit was still black-furred. Although Oswald was drastically remodelled into an all-white character that year, Elmer was not changed in any way. Two years later, he was joined by Doxie Dachsund who also became Oswald's dog. Elmer, along with Doxie, made his last regular appearance in Soup to Mutts (1939).

As he enters the yard of the other house and drops by the poodle's cabin, Doxie presents a bone which he had spared from his meal. Not surprisingly, Doxie's gift is not accepted and the poodle isn't interested in meeting him. Refusing to back down, Doxie goes on to dig up all the bones in the area, including a dinosaur skeleton. After gathering up every single piece, the in-love dog attempts to offer them to his love interest.

For about a month in December 1947, Hall of Fame player Bobby McDermott was a player-coach for the Red Skins. He was obtained from the Chicago American Gears after the Professional Basketball League of America folded the previous month. McDermott played in 16 games for Sheboygan, scoring 138 points. As coach, he took the reins from Doxie Moore and had a 4–5 record.

Norman Doxie "Tony" Boeckel (August 25, 1892 – February 16, 1924) was a Major League Baseball (MLB) infielder who played six seasons with the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Boston Braves of the National League (NL). He drove in one of the runs scored in a 1-1 tie game on May 1, 1920 that lasted a record-breaking 26 innings. Boeckel was an active MLB player when he was killed in an automobile accident.

John Doxie Moore (February 13, 1911 – April 23, 1986) was an American basketball player and coach. He attended Delphi High School in Delphi, Indiana, and played college basketball at Purdue University from 1930 to 1934, playing alongside John Wooden as Purdue laid claim to the 1932 Helms Athletic Foundation National Championship. He coached several professional basketball teams, including the Sheboygan Red Skins, the Anderson Packers and the Milwaukee Hawks in the 1940s and 1950s. Moore was hired to coach Sheboygan for the 1946–47 season.

He scored 310 points in 34 games for Hall of Famer Dutch Dehnert's Red Skins, who won the Western Division title with a 21-13 record and advanced to the NBL championship series against the powerful Rochester Royals, who included Hall of Famers Al Cervi, Bob Davies and Red Holzman. Rochester, which would win the NBA championship five years later, swept Sheboygan for the title. After only three games in 1946–47, Novak was dealt to the Syracuse Nationals. Doxie Moore had replaced Dehnert as Sheboygan's head coach.

Meany, Miny, and Moe (three ne'er-do-well chimps), Baby-Face Mouse, Snuffy Skunk, Doxie (a comic dachshund), and Jock and Jill (monkeys that resembled Warner Brothers' Bosko) were some personalities Lantz and his staff came up with. However, one character, Andy Panda, stood out and soon became Lantz's headline star for the 1939–1940 production season. In 1940, Lantz married actress Grace Stafford (he was previously married to, and had a child with, Doris Hollister).

Isaac Walker Duffey (May 31, 1906 – April 4, 1967) was an American businessman and sports executive. He organized a successful barnstorming team called the Anderson Chiefs, and later bought a National Basketball League franchise, which he named the Anderson Packers. The Packers played in the National Basketball League for three years, winning the final NBL championship, and later spent time in the National Basketball Association and National Professional Basketball League. Duffey was the interim coach of the Packers for three games in the 1949–50 season, going 1-2 before turning the reins over to former NBL coach Doxie Moore.

Before the band was named Blowzabella some of them played occasionally with Paul James (bagpipes, woodwinds), Juan Wijngaard (hurdy- gurdy), Peter Lees (Hammered dulcimer) and Cliff Stapleton (recorder, hurdy- gurdy). The band's name was taken from an English jig "Blowzabella" and bawdy drinking song "Blowzabella My Bouncing Doxie", popular in the late 17th century and early 18th century. The band discovered the tune while researching for bagpipe repertoire in the Vaughan Williams Memorial Library. The name, with its combination of "blow" and "bella", summed up the band's sound. In late 1979, Bill O'Toole returned to Australia and Dave Roberts (melodeon, percussion) joined the group. In 1980, Dave Armitage left the band and Paul James (bagpipes, woodwind) and Cliff Stapleton (hurdy-gurdy) joined.
