On March 28, 2010, Hart made an appearance at Wrestlemania 26 to help his brother Bret defeat Vince McMahon in a No Holds Barred Match. The storyline was that McMahon had paid off Smith and all the other Hart family members to betray Bret, but they all doublecrossed him and helped Bret win the match. Hart also appeared on WWE television at his father Stu's Hall of Fame induction together with his sibling.

Emil enlists the help of a group of child "detectives" led by the street urchin Gustav, and together they track down Grundeis and overhear him plotting with The Baron and his accomplice Müller to rob a large Berlin bank by tunneling to its vault. Emil is captured and forced to assist in the criminal plot. After the bank vault is blown open, Grundeis is doublecrossed by The Baron and Müller and left behind with Emil in the tunnel to be blown up by a dynamite fuse, but Gustav arrives in time to save them. The child detectives pursue the thieves and alert more children in the neighborhood who also give chase.

It turned out that all three had partially merged during the explosion when Black Swan used his powers in an act of desperation to save himself. Black Swan psionically acquired Deadpool's healing factor but accidentally made contact with Nijo and personal traits had been mixed around. Swan had also given Nijo's corpse Deadpool's regenerative powers (restoring him to a form of life 5 minutes after his death), as well as part of his personality, while Nijo also gained Swan's firearms talents, ambition, some of his refined tastes, preferences and biases, and also the bodily scarring and outrage he'd received from Deadpool throwing him face first into a white hot fireplace griddle at his home. Black Swan proposed a three-way mind meld to restore each man to their correct personal states, but doublecrossed them.

Many of the songs featured on the album were written and recorded in the form of demos years previously: early recordings of "Flesh Into Gear" (originally titled "Sinking Fast"), "Sink Into the Underground", "Attached at the Hip", "Plastic Plan" (originally titled "No Such Thing"), "Inhuman Creation Station" and "Sporadic Movement" were featured on the videos CKY2K and CKY 3, and an early version of "Close Yet Far" (under the title "Fairman's Song") was included on the original pressing of Volume 2. Unlike on Volume 1, where songwriting was credited to Miller alone, writing for Infiltrate•Destroy•Rebuild was credited to all three band members: Miller, Ginsburg and drummer Jess Margera. The album is also the band's first to feature synthesizers, which were performed by Miller and Ginsburg. At least one song was intended for inclusion on the album, but later removed – "Dropped and Doublecrossed", an early version of which was released under the name "Dropped" on Volume 2, which was later reworked and released on the band's 2009 fourth studio album Carver City under the name "Plagued by Images".
