In the 1912 Summer Olympics he finished sixth in the two handed discus throw competition, just behind fellow Irish American Athletic Club member and US Olympic team mate James Duncan, who won the bronze medal in the one-handed discus throw that year. Muller also participated in the discus throw event and finished twelfth. In 1913, Muller competed against fellow Irish American Athletic Club member and nine time Olympic medalist Martin Sheridan in the discus throw at the New York Metropolitan Association championship meet of the Amateur Athletic Union.

Heinrich Bernhard Karl "Hans" Hoffmeister (17 March 1901 – 9 January 1980) was a German discus thrower who set a world record at 48.77 m in 1928. He showed much worse results at the 1928 Summer Olympics (best throw 39.17 m) and placed 25th. Hoffmeister won the national discus title in 1926, 1930 and 1931, and finished second in javelin in 1927. Next year he won the Irish discus and javelin titles.
Four years later he participated in the Greek discus throw event and in the discus throw competition but in both contests his result is unknown. At the 1908 Olympics he also competed in the Greco-Roman light heavyweight event but was eliminated in the first round after losing his fight to Walter West. Symphysodon discus, the red discus or Heckel discus, is a species of cichlid native to the Amazon Basin, where found in the lower Rio Negro, upper Uatumã, Nhamundá, Trombetas and Abacaxis. This species is essentially restricted to blackwater habitats with a high temperature of and low pH of 4.2–5.2. This species grows to a length of SL. This species can also be found in the aquarium trade.

Volodymyr first competed in the 2000 Summer Paralympics in both the shot putt and discus throw without winning any medals. In 2004 he concentrated in the shot putt and won a bronze medal. The younger sister of discus thrower Erik de Bruin, she was Holland's undisputed leading shot putter in the 1990s and played a leading role in discus throwing alongside Jacqueline Goormachtigh as well. De Bruin won the world title in discus throwing at the 1994 World Junior Championships in Athletics.
Nándor Fóthy () was a Hungarian track and field athlete and one of the best discus throwers of his time. Competing for Nagykanizsai Testnevelési Egylet until 1903 and for Aradi Atlétikai Club subsequently, he won two Hungarian Athletics Championships titles in discus throw in 1903 and 1904. In 1902 he became the first discus thrower to breach the 40-meters mark (40.61 meters), which was an unofficial world record that time – world records in the men's discus were not recognized by the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) until 1912. In 1903 Fóthy further improved his best to 41.80 meters.
Brar was India's national champion in the shot put and discus throw events in the 1950s. He won his first national shot put event in Madras in 1958 and won the national discus throw events in 1954, 1958 and 1959. In the 1954 Asian Games in Manila, he won gold medals in the shot put and discus throw events, thus becoming the first athlete in Asia to achieve the feat. He continued his performance in the 1958 Asian Games in Tokyo, winning a gold in the shot put event and bronze in the discus throw event.
A 1999 study of discus throwers found that for F5 to F8 discus throwers, the upper arm tends to be near horizontal at the moment of release of the discus. F5 to F7 discus throwers have greater angular speed of the shoulder girdle during release of the discus than the lower number classes of F2 to F4. F2 and F4 speed is caused by use of the elbow flexion to compensate for the shoulder flexion advantage of F5 to F8 throwers. A study of was done comparing the performance of athletics competitors at the 1984 Summer Paralympics. It found there was little significant difference in performance in distance between women in 1C (SP3, SP4), 2 (SP4) and 3 (SP4, SP5) in the javelin. It found there was little significant difference in performance in time between women in 1C (SP3, SP4), 2 (SP4) and 3 in the 60 meters.

Viktor Zhurba (; born 6 August 1950) is a retired male discus thrower. He represented the Soviet Union during his career in the late 1960s and early 1970s. Zhurba is best known for winning the gold medal in the men's discus event at the 1973 Summer Universiade in Moscow.
Eric Christian William Krenz (May 7, 1906 – August 18, 1931) was an American shot putter and discus thrower. Krenz set two world records in the discus and was considered a favorite for the 1932 Summer Olympics, but his career was cut short when he drowned at age 25.
Wang represented China at the 2012 Summer Paralympics in London, entering the shot put, javelin throw and discus throw events. He finished eighth in the shot put, but finished on the podium in both the javelin and discus, winning silver and gold respectively. As well as his Paralympic success Wang has won medals at the World Championships winning two silvers at the 2013 Games in Lyon, and in the 2015 Games in Doha he won gold in both the javelin and discus.
Abouelkhir first competed in a Summer Paralympics the 2000 Summer Paralympics in Sydney, Australia. There he competed in the F58 discus throw, winning silver with a distance of 50.75 metres. Four years later he appeared at the 2004 Summer Paralympics in Athens, where he entered both the discus and shot put, but failed to reach the podium in either. He missed the Beijing Games, but returned for the 2012 Paralympics in London, winning the bronze in the F57/58 discus.
He is the Brazilian record holder in the discus throw (65.55 m). He is the second highest ranked South American discus thrower after Jorge Balliengo and has won straight titles at the Brazil championships since 2005. Julião is a five-time medallist in the discus at the South American Championships in Athletics and won the gold medal in the event in 2011 with a Championship record. He also won a silver medal in the shot put at the 2009 South American Championships.
Knee injuries eventually obliged him to withdraw from USC's football and basketball teams, but as a discus thrower he continued to climb toward the top of the world rankings. Babka continued to compete as a discus thrower until 1969, when he retired to devote himself to various business pursuits. He currently resides in California. Babka is also an artist with works on display with the Art of the Olympians, which was founded by fellow Olympic discus thrower and American Olympics teammate Al Oerter.
By the time he graduated in 2004, Young had set three school records – the indoor weight throw, the outdoor discus, and the hammer throw. As of 2012, all three records still stand. He also qualified for the Olympic Trials where he placed ninth in the discus. In 2006, Young finished the year ranked number two in the country at the discus and number six in the world. He took 2007 off, and finished 2008 ranked number two and number 15.

Abdel Jabbar has been a part of three Tunisian teams at the Paralympics. Patrick "Paddy" Joseph Bermingham (15 March 1886 – January 1959) was an Irish police officer and sportsman, specialising in the discus. He was from Moyasta1901 census in County Clare and joined the Dublin Metropolitan Police. Bermingham won ten Irish national discus titles: IAAA titles in 1919 and 1920, and NACAI titles in 1923–4–5–6–7, 1930, 1932, and 1933. He held the Irish record at until 1939. He won five English AAA discus titles: 1924–5–6, 1932, and 1934.
At the Paralympics, she competed in the 100 m, shot-put, and discus events, winning a silver medal in the F37 discus classification, Australia's first medal in athletics at the event. She competed in the 2006 International Paralympic Committee World Championships, where she broke the F37 discus world record with a throw of 29.93 metres, winning the gold medal at the event. Following this achievement, she was named the 2006 Telstra Female Athlete with a Disability of the Year by Athletics Australia.
Edie Boyer (born February 21, 1966) is a retired female discus thrower from the United States. She set her personal best (62.92 metres) in the women's discus throw event on May 16, 1998, at a meet in Minnesota. The result is world record for deaf athletes, as Boyer is 80% hearing impaired after a struggle with meningitis at the age of 10 months. Boyer was the 1995 USA women's discus champion and competed at two World Championships (1995 and 1997) during her career.
As of the 2008 Paralympics in Beijing, Jones began concentrating on throwing events, mainly discus and shot put. She qualified for both events in China, finishing 5th in the T37 Shot Put and 7th in the T37 discus with a European record throw of 27.27m. Her 5th place in shot put saw Jones throwing her personal best of 10.35m. In 2011 Jones represented Great Britain in both the Shot and discus at the IPC Athletics World Championships in New Zealand.

Her last name is sometimes also spelled as Murashova. Murašova set the Lithuanian national record in the women's discus throw on August 18, 1984 in Prague, by throwing 72.14 metres. She claimed the silver medal in the women's discus throw event at the 1983 World Championships in Helsinki, Finland, behind East Germany's Martina Opitz.

In the 2000 Paralympics, Barrett earned a silver medal in Women's Discus Throw F46 and a bronze medal in Women's Shot Put F46. She also holds the world record in discus and the United States national record for shot put.
Francis competed in both events at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland finishing 6th in the shot put and 7th in the discus. She was the first British (male or female) athlete to win the discus event at the European Athletics U23 Championships, winning in Kaunus, Lithuania in 2009. This also represented Britain's first ever gold medal for a female discus thrower at European, World or Olympic level. Her gold medal was subsequently stolen during a burglary at her home.

Sten Gunnar Bergh (20 March 1909 – 25 January 1986) was a Swedish athlete who specialized in the shot put and discus throw. He competed in these events at the 1936 Summer Olympics and finished in ninth and seventh place, respectively. At the 1938 European Championships Bergh won a bronze medal in the discus and finished fifth in the shot put. He won the Swedish titles in the shot put in 1935–42 and 1937–41 and in the discus in 1943–44.

Born in Eperjes (Prešov), Kobulszky began his career in 1904 by local club Eperjesi Torna és Vívó Egylet, where he remained until 1910. Generally competing in throwing events (discus throw, shot put), he was also member of the Eperjesi TVE football team, with them he won the first edition of the Northern District Championship of the Hungarian league (1907–08). In 1910 Kobulszky switched to Budapesti Postás SE, the club of the Hungarian Post, in their color he won his first Hungarian Athletics Championships title in the discus throw event. In 1912 he made it to the Olympic Games, where he finished nineteenth in the discus throw competition and eighteenth in the two handed discus throw event.
Tscherniawsky, who has cerebral palsy, took up wheelchair basketball at the age of eleven. After visiting Stoke Mandeville at the age of 16, he became part of the GB development squad, focusing on power lifting. He eventually gravitated towards the throwing events, specialising in the shot put and discus. He began competing at the age of 17. In 2009, he competed in both shot put and discus, but by 2010 he dropped the shot to concentrate of discus alone. IvO 240/241 is the catalogue number of a bronze discus awarded to Publius Asklepiades after his victory in the ancient Olympic Games in the year 241 CE. As a discus thrower he competed at the 1960 and 1964 Summer Olympics and finished in 22nd and 17th place, respectively. With a throw of 55.96 m he won a silver medal at the 1962 European Championships in Belgrade, behind Soviet Union's Vladimir Trusenyev (57.11 m). In the late 1950s and early 1960s, Koch collected all together sixteen Dutch titles, seven in shot put and nine in discus throw.

At age twenty, Tapoki made her official debut for the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, where she competed in the women's discus throw. At the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, Tapoki improved her performance by successfully throwing the discus into the field on her third and final attempt, at 48.35 metres.

His best result was winning the title in the men's discus throw at the 1994 Commonwealth Games in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. Reiterer is an eight-time national champion in the discus throw. In his book 'Positive' he admitted to five years of performance-enhancing drug use.

A study of javelin throwers in 2003 found that F7 throwers have angular speeds of the shoulder girdle similar to that of F4 to F9 throwers. A 1999 study of discus throwers found that for F5 to F8 discus throwers, the upper arm tends to be near horizontal at the moment of release of the discus.
Tamara Natanovna Press (born 10 May 1937) is a retired Soviet athlete who dominated the shot put and discus throw in the early 1960s. She won three gold and one silver medals at the 1960 and 1964 Olympics and three European titles in 1958–1962. Between 1959 and 1965 she set 11 world records: five in the shot put and six in the discus. Domestically, she held 16 national titles, nine in the shot put (1958–66) and seven in the discus (1960–66).

In this event she finished sixth at the 1936 Summer Olympics and fourth at the 1938 European Athletics Championships. Lundström was the Swedish champion in the discus throw (1935, 1937–41 and 1944), javelin throw (1934) and shot put (1941). In the discus she held the senior Swedish record and later the world record in the masters (80+) category (from 1992 to 2006).
Richard "Dick" Drescher (born February 2, 1946) is a retired male track and field athlete from the United States. He competed in the men's discus throw during his career. Drescher set his personal best in the discus throw event (63.90 metres) at the Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut on April 24, 1976.

His personal best in discus throw was 68.12 metres, achieved in May 1979 in Fresno. It remained the Finnish record until 2001, when Timo Tompuri threw 69.62 m.
Mohmoud Elatar is a paralympic athlete from Egypt competing mainly in category F58 javelin and discus events. Mahmoud competed in both the F58 discus and javelin events at both the 2000 and 2004 Summer Paralympics winning gold in both events at the 2000 games and silver in both at the 2004 games.

Stephen James Miller MBE (born 27 May 1980) is a British athlete who competes in the fields of Paralympic club and discus throwing. He has won three gold, one silver, and one bronze medal in the F32/51 club throw at the Paralympics. In Paralympic F32/51 discus he won one bronze medal.

In his childhood Weißhaidinger competed in gymnastics, but dropped that sport after growing too tall and concentrated on athletics. Weißhaidinger won gold in both the shot (20.35 m/5 kg) and the discus (60.94 m/1.5 kg) at the 2009 European Youth Olympic Festival in Tampere. Gideon Ariel at the Mexico Olympics 1968Ariel developed a business of biomechanical services, ranging from physical rehabilitation to personalized athletic instruction, working with athletes including Olympic champion discus thrower Al Oerter—who after working with Ariel, at age 43 threw a discus 27 feet farther than his best gold medal performance. Another of those athletes was Mac Wilkins. In 1975, the USOC had gathered 12 of America's best discus throwers to be filmed in action with high speed cameras. The footage was sent to Ariel's laboratory where he conducted his analysis on their performances.
Armas Rudolf Taipale (27 July 1890 – 9 November 1976) was a Finnish athlete. He competed at the 1912 Summer Olympics and won gold medals in two discus throw events, conventional and two-handed, where the total was counted as a sum of best throws with a left hand and with a right hand. After World War I he won a silver medal in the conventional discus throw at the 1920 Olympics and finished tenth in the shot put. He represented Germany at the 2016 Summer Paralympics and he won the gold medal in the men's shot put F33 event. Mokhtar Nourafshan is a paralympic athlete from Iran competing mainly in category F53 throwing events. Venne "Verner" Järvinen (born 3 April 1870, Ruovesi, Grand Duchy of Finland, Russian Empire; died 31 January 1941, Tampere, Finland) was a Finnish track and field athlete, who competed mostly in throwing events. He won the gold medal in the Greek-style discus in the 1906 Intercalated Games, and the bronze in the 1908 Summer Olympics, becoming the first Finnish Olympic medalist in athletics. He won the Finnish championship in Greek style discus three times in 1909–1911 and held the national record in discus and hammer throw.

L Jay Silvester (born August 27, 1937) is an American retired athlete who mainly competed in the discus throw. In this event he finished in fourth, fifth, second and eighth place at the 1964, 1968, 1972 Summer Olympics and 1976 Summer Olympics, respectively, and won a bronze medal at the 1975 Pan American Games. During his career, Silvester won five AAU discus titles and set four world records, two in 1961 and two in 1968. His personal bests were 70.38 m in the discus (1971, unofficial world record) and 20.01 m in the shot put.

Tompuri has also won the Finnish Championships in 2000, 2001, 2003 and 2005; placed second in 1999, 2002 and 2004; and placed third in 2006. Aled Siôn Davies MBE (born 24 May 1991) is a Welsh Paralympian athlete competing mainly in category F42 throwing events. In 2012 he became the world record holder of the F42 shot put and in the 2012 Summer Paralympics he took the bronze medal in shot put and gold in the discus. In 2013 Davies took the World Championship gold in both the shot put and discus in Lyon. He won double gold in his home country at the 2014 IPC Athletics European Championships in the shot put and discus.

She also participated at the 2012 Summer Paralympics where she won a bronze medal for discus throw of 5.29 metre. She participated in the 2013 IPC Athletics World Championships in Lyon, France, competing in discus and club throw. In 2016 she beat her previous personal best of 4.89 metre with a 4.98 metre throw at the Women's Discus Throw in F52 category but got a bronze medal.
In 2004, Apinis became Latvia's first Paralympic champion when he won the F52 discus event, establishing a new Paralympic record with a throw of 18.98m. At the same Games, Edgars Bergs took silver in the shot put and bronze in the discus (F35). In 2008, Apinis and Bergs were again Latvia's sole medal winners. The former won gold in the discus (with a world record throw of 20.47m) and silver in the shot put (F33/34/52), while the latter also won silver in the shot put (F35/36).
Other species and subspecies have been proposed, but morphometric data (unlike in Pterophyllum, the freshwater angelfish) varies as much between individuals from one location as across the whole range of all discus fish species. S. tarzoo was described in 1959 and applies to the red-spotted western population. S. aequifasciatus and S. discus, meanwhile, seem to hybridise frequently in the wild or have diverged recently, as they lack mitochondrial DNA lineage sorting but differ in color pattern and have dissimilar chromosomal translocation patterns. S. discus occurs mainly in the Rio Negro.

The 2000 Summer Paralympics in Sydney saw him defend his gold medal in the shot putt in the F35 class but only managing bronze in the discus. 2004 saw him win two silvers, this was followed in 2004 by a silver in the discus and a bronze in the shot putt. The 2008 Summer Paralympics in Beijing were the first time Noorduin had been to the Paralympic Games and not won a medal.
Vladimíra Bujárková is a Paralympian athlete from the Czech Republic competing mainly in category F37 shot putt and discus events. Bujárková first competed in the Paralympics in the 2000 Summer Paralympics edition in Sydney. There she competed in the F37 javelin and shot and won a silver medal in the F37 discus. In Athens at the 2004 Summer Paralympics she couldn't quite retain a medal position in the discus in the F37/38 class but made up for it with a silver in the F37/38 shot putt.

Garrett had attempted to train for the event with a 10 kilogram replica of a discus, but had given up as it was too heavy. When he learned the actual competition discus weighed only 2 kilograms, he entered the event after all, and won it, to the dismay of the Greek public, who considered their throwers "unbeatable". Zitnansky has established a Slovak record-breaking throw of 67.20 m in the discus at Nacht van Volharding in Beveren, Belgium. Zitnansky made his official debut at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, where he competed as part of the newly formed Slovak team in the men's discus throw.

She was just 18 years old when she won a bronze medal in discus throw at the 1962 Asian Games, placing behind Japanese Keiko Murase and Seiko Obonai. Two years later, Dela Viña competed at the 1964 Summer Olympics where she placed 18th among 21 starters. At the 1966 Asian Games, Dela Viña threw the discus at a distance of 47.58m to set a new Games record en route to winning the gold medal.

Symphysodon aequifasciatus, the blue discus or brown discus, is a species of cichlid native to rivers of the eastern and central Amazon Basin downriver from the Purus arch. This discus is found in black-, clear- and whitewater, but its preference for lentic habitats such as floodplains and flooded forests means that the whitewater it inhabits contain little suspended material (unlike main sections of whitewater rivers). It is largely restricted to water with a high temperature of and a pH of 5.2–7.7. It typically reaches a length of up to SL, but captives have been claimed to reach .

Fedrick Dacres (born 28 February 1994) is a Jamaican discus thrower. He began his throwing career as a student at Calabar High School in Jamaica along with other accomplished throwers such as Chad Wright and Traves Smikle, under the guidance of former Calabar athlete coach Julian Robinson. He won a gold medal at the 2011 World Youth Championships in Athletics, becoming the first Jamaican discus thrower ever to do so. He went on to win a gold medal at the 2012 World Junior Championships in Athletics, also becoming the first Jamaican discus thrower ever to do so.
Situ first came to the international stage in 1998 when she represented South Africa at her first IPC Athletics World Championships, held in Birmingham, England. There she entered both the javelin and discus events, winning gold in the javelin with a best throw of 14.45 metres, and bronze in the discus throw. This led her to the 2000 Summer Paralympics in Sydney where she won a gold in the F52-54 javelin and a silver in the F51-54 discus. This was further than the previous record, set by the Czechoslovakian Zdenka Šilhavá, and further than the world record for men (men discus weight is 2 kilograms while women discus weight is 1 kilogram) set by Jürgen Schult (DDR) 6 June 1986.

Krenz was one of the leading stars of coach Dink Templeton's Stanford University team. He won the discus throw at the 1927 national championships with a throw of 44.75 m (146 ft 10 in). In April 1928, he threw beyond Bud Houser's official discus world record of several times in practice. Krenz won both of his events at the 1928 IC4A Championships, leading Stanford to their second straight team championship. He also won the discus at the 1928 NCAA Championships and placed second in the shot, helping Stanford win that team title as well with a record 72 points.
Scott Martin (born 12 October 1982 in Wodonga, Victoria) is an Australian shot putter and discus throw competitor. He rose to prominence in a National Australia Bank advertisement promoting the 2006 Commonwealth Games; in the ad, Martin was shown taking part in a ballet class to improve his discus technique. He won a bronze medal in the men's shot put at the Games, and won gold in the men's discus throw. Scott Martin is currently the Australian and Oceania record holder with a throw of 21.26 metres in the Melbourne leg of the World Athletics Tour meeting in February 2008.
The men's Greek-style discus throw was one of six throwing events on the Athletics at the 1908 Summer Olympics programme in London. The competition was held on 18 July 1908. In the Greek-style event, throwers hurled the discus from atop a rectangular platform raised above the ground. Throwing style was strictly prescribed by the rules of the event.
Ilke Wyludda (born 28 March 1969) is a discus thrower from Germany. She set eleven junior records at discus throw (and also two at shot put), and became junior world champion. Between 1989 and 1991 she recorded 41 successive wins until beaten by Tsvetanka Khristova at the 1991 World Championships. Wyludda never won the world championships, but she became Olympic champion in 1996.

Giorgio Oberweger (22 December 1913 – 14 October 1998) was an Italian discus thrower who won a bronze medal at the 1936 Olympics and a silver at the 1938 European Champsionships. He placed sixth at the 1934 European Championships and 15th at the 1948 Olympics. Oberweger won five national titles, in the discus throw (1934 and 1936–1938) and 110 metres hurdles (1939).
