This is not the same as the Pratt Test, which checks for a DVT by compressing a vein with the hands.

Adults with an uncorrected ASD present with symptoms of dyspnea on exertion (shortness of breath with minimal exercise), congestive heart failure, or cerebrovascular accident (stroke). There is a fascia near the base composed of two irregular dark fuscous lines mixed with leaden-metallic coincident at the extremities. There is a similar irregular transverse line at one-fourth, closely followed by a moderate dark fuscous fascia, narrowed on the costa and dilated on the dorsum. There is a round dark fuscous dot mixed with leaden-metallic in the middle of the disc and a moderate inwards-curved fascia of fuscous suffusion from about three-fourths of the costa to the tornus, marked with a strongly inwards- oblique leaden-metallic streak from the costa, a dot below the middle, and a longitudinal mark on the tornus. There are also three similar longitudinal leaden-metallic marks on the termen, and one on the costa before the apex, more or less surrounded with fuscous suffusion.

This spot lies in the course of the first of the two oblique, transverse, pale fawn-brownish bands, which, dilated on the middle of the costa, descends obliquely outward to the end of the cell, and is then recurved to the dorsum at two-thirds; the second follows a parallel course, commencing on the costa at three-fourths, both diffused and iU-defined.

The forewings have an irregular grey longitudinal suffusion extending from the base through the disc and gradually expanding to three-fourths, sometimes extending nearly to the costa, with variable transverse bars, spots, or clouds of dark fuscous suffusion, beyond the middle connected with the dorsum by a more or less developed patch of similar mottling, and with an oblique streak from near the posterior extremity to the costa beyond the middle. There is a dark ferruginous fascia narrowed downwards around the apex and upper two-thirds of the termen, edged anteriorly by a sinuate white line and then by a streak of grey suffusion. The forewings are deep reddish ochreous or reddish ochreous brown, with scattered lighter ochreous scales. The costa is very narrowly carmine pink and the tips of the scales are ochreous whitish. The discal dots are obsolete, but there are some blackish-grey scales at the base, a small blackish-grey spot on the costa before the middle, tending to form a connected streak with a smaller cloudy blackish-grey spot in the disc at one-fourth from the base, and another on the fold somewhat nearer the base. There is an elongate cloudy blackish-grey blotch along the inner margin from one-third to three-fourths and a blackish-grey cloudy streak from four-fifths of costa to two-thirds of the inner margin, dilated on the costa into a small spot, whence proceeds a transverse slightly curved row of indistinct blackish- grey dots to the inner margin before the anal angle.

The forewings are yellow, ornamented throughout with light red arabesque patterns, suffusedly confluent along the costa. The extreme costal edge is fuscous and beneath the costa, from the base to two-thirds, are six irregularly placed brassy-leaden-metallic dashes with a few black scales, and two black linear dots anteriorly. The fuscous markings are edged with crimson and contain a few scattered small bright leaden-metallic marks as follows: two small spots near the dorsum towards the base, connected by a crimson line with an oblique irregular fasciate streak from beneath the costal area at one- fourth to the middle of the dorsum, dilated on the dorsum, a cruciform pattern in the disc beyond the middle (the lower arm connected with the preceding), and an irregular streak from the costa at four-fifths to the termen above the tornus. There is also a series of bright leaden-metallic marks edged with fuscous around the apical part of the costa and termen.
