Papilloderma altonagai is a species of air-breathing land slug, a terrestrial pulmonate gastropod mollusk in the informal group Sigmurethra. Papilloderma altonagai is the only species in the genus Papilloderma, which is the only genus within the family Papillodermatidae, which in turn is the only family within the superfamily Papillodermatoidea. This species is named in honor of Dr. Kepa Altonaga (2009), biologist from the University of the Basque Country. The generic name Papilloderma is composed from the prefix Papillo- that means "papilla" and from the suffix -derma from Greek language that means "skin".

It was coined by Charles De Geer in 1773. The common term, earwig, is derived from the Old English , which means "ear", and , which means "insect", or literally, "beetle". Entomologists suggest that the origin of the name is a reference to the appearance of the hindwings, which are unique and distinctive among insects, and resemble a human ear when unfolded.

Echinoderm is the common name given to any member of the phylum Echinodermata (from Ancient Greek, ἐχῖνος, echinos – "hedgehog" and δέρμα, derma – "skin") of marine animals. The adults are recognizable by their (usually five-point) radial symmetry, and include starfish, sea urchins, sand dollars, and sea cucumbers, as well as the sea lilies or "stone lilies". Echinoderms are found at every ocean depth, from the intertidal zone to the abyssal zone. The phylum contains about 7000 living species, making it the second-largest grouping of deuterostomes (a superphylum), after the chordates (which include the vertebrates, such as birds, fishes, mammals, and reptiles).

Taxidermy, or the process of preserving animal skin together with its feathers, fur, or scales, is an art whose existence has been short compared to forms such as painting, sculpture, and music. The word derives from two Greek words: taxis, meaning order, preparation, and arrangement and derma, meaning skin. Directly translated, taxidermy means "skin art". According to John W. Moyer, a staff member at the Chicago Field Museum of Natural History famous for his comprehensive studies on the development of this process, in his book Practical Taxidermy, the modern form of taxidermy greatly differs from the taxidermy of antiquity.

In 1999, Brooks acquired the Burlington, Vermont-based City Drug chain, greatly increasing its market share in the State of Vermont and re-entering the State of New York for the first time since the 1994 Revco acquisition. Later, in 2001, Brooks purchased all of the New England Osco Drug stores from Albertson's. (The Osco name would be reintroduced to New England in 2005, following Albertson's acquisition of Shaw's and Star Market.) During the late 1990s and early 2000s, Brooks Pharmacy was also seen as an innovator, being one of the first American chains to bring European derma care skin centers and consultation centers into its stores.

Muggy-Doo started out as the feline star of a 1953 comic from Stanhall Publishing entitled Muggy-Doo, Boy Cat. He was a screwball character who bought and sold junk for a living, and who always wore a loose-fitting yellow T-shirt, the front of which had writing that kept changing to fit his situation (in the style of the Yellow Kid). The comic also included stories starring other characters, such as Elmer the Elk, Orry the Orangutan, and the porcine Stuffy Derma. Also featured was a fez-wearing hound named Osh, who acted as a foil for Muggy but also appeared in solo stories. The title lasted only four issues, but at least two of them were reprinted in 1963 by I. W. Publications, under their “Super Comics” label.

Glenn "Slats" Hardin Glenn Foster "Slats" Hardin (July 1, 1910 - March 6, 1975) was an American athlete, winner of 400 m hurdles at the 1936 Summer Olympics. Born in Derma, Mississippi, Glenn Hardin was the world's dominant 400 m hurdler in the 1930s and was equally tough in the 400 m flat race. Hardin's rise began at the 1932 Summer Olympics, where he finished second in the 400 m hurdles in 52.0 but was given credit for a world record when the winner, Bob Tisdall from Ireland, knocked down a hurdle, an error that in those days disqualified a performance for world record consideration. Hardin lowered the record to 51.8 in the 1934 AAU championships and then bettered it to 50.6 during a meet in Stockholm later that year.

He won by attaining 53.00%. He contested with four other candidates from the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Convention People's Party (CPP), National Reform Party (NRP), and People's National Convention (PNC). Henry Derma Narh of the NPP polled 9,291 votes. CPP's representative Mr. Accam emerged third with a total votes of 1,600. Thomas Narh Batsa of the NRP attained 1,062 and Robert Nartey of the PNC had 361 votes.

Repeated extensions and compressions of the skin cause repeated injuries of extracellular fibers in derma. During the repairing process, some of the broken elastic fibers and collagen fibers are not regenerated and restored but replaced by altered fibers. When an elastic fiber is broken in an extended state, it may be replaced by a “long” collagen fiber. Accumulation of “long” collagen fibers makes part of the skin looser and stiffer, and as a consequence, a big fold of skin appears. When a “long” collagen is broken in a compressed state, it may be replaced by a “short” collagen fiber. The “shorter” collagen fibers will restrict the extension of "longer" fibers, and make the “long” fibers in a folding state permanently.
