When this happens, I'm usually listening to Elvis Depressedly – a band whose musical bedrock is built on the tensions and daydreams of the Sunshine State and, as a whole, the identity of the Southern US. The band is the work of South Carolina native Mat Cothran and it's name is something of a joke; Cothran often feels like a "bad comedian" because many people have associated his sound with sadness.

Elvis Depressedly was formed in 2011 in Columbia, South Carolina, originally as a way for Cothran to explore his Bowie-esque alter ego of "Mickey", referenced in the early EPs as a way for him to confront and examine his fears and anxieties. The band debuted with the self-release of the five-track EP Save the Planet Kill Yourself. It was followed by the EP Goner, and the single "Disgraceland" in the same year. In 2012 Cothran played his first show under the name Elvis Depressedly, playing the entirety of the album Mickey's Dead, which was released later that year on Orchid Tapes.

Dey released her first album, Asdfasdf, in 2015 on the label Orchid Tapes. Dey attracted the attention of Orchid Tapes founder Warren Hildebrand after Mat Cothran of Elvis Depressedly discovered Dey's blog. Pitchfork rated the album a 7 out of 10. In 2016, Dey released her second full-length album, Flood Network, this time on the label Joy Void.

Elvis Depressedly are an American experimental pop project from Asheville, North Carolina. The band consists of former Coma Cinema frontman Mathew Lee Cothran and various collaborators. They have released eight records and several EPs. Their music has been described as "evoking [...] childhood nights fraught with existential dread" and has been likened to the earlier music of Ariel Pink and Elliott Smith.

Following this, they embarked on a headlining US tour with support from Elvis Depressedly and Emma Ruth Rundle. They went on another US headliner in early 2018 with support from Camp Cope and Summer Salt. In July, the band appeared at the Mo Pop festival. In November and December, the band supported The Story So Far on their US headlining tour.

Orchid Tapes periodically organizes and hosts musical showcases, with three in 2013 alone. Venues have included Hildebrand's rooftop, a 100-year-old synagogue in Los Angeles, in conjunction with The L.A. Fort and multiple New York venues. For the March 2014 release of Boring Ecstasy, artists including Elvis Depressedly, Alex G, Ricky Eat Acid, R.L. Kelly, Home Alone, and Four Visions played a showcase at Brooklyn's Shea Stadium.

The festival featured artists and friends curated by the label, including Modern Baseball, Basement, Citizen, Turnover, mewithoutYou, Pinegrove, Nothing, Alex G, Elvis Depressedly, Teen Suicide, Nicole Dollanganger, Crying, Horse Jumper of Love, and Petal. Their YouTube channel, which features songs and videos from artists on their roster, has 112 thousand subscribers and 79 million views (as of September 9th, 2019). In 2019, RFC joined Captured Tracks, Sacred Bones, Dead Oceans, Ghostly International and Jagjaguwar at Secretly Distribution.

The base of the shell is rather convex, with 8 lirae, the external one bordering the subperipheral channel, the external 5 lirae are narrow, with broad, smooth interstices, the central 3 are broad, all are ornamented with rufous spots. The base is covered with very fine growth- striae and more remote deeper striae, rendering the central 2 lirae crenulated. The umbilicus is moderately wide, but seen from the base, nearly closed by a very strong, white, striated funiculus. The aperture is depressedly-rounded, with a thin but not quite intact margin, which is crenulated by the external lirae.

Run for Cover Records (also known as RFC) is an American independent record label based in Boston, Massachusetts. Founded in 2004 by Jeff Casazza at the age of 17 with a $1,000 loan, the label functioned as a small one-person bedroom operation in Brighton, until Casazza graduated Suffolk University in 2010. Known for working with undiscovered young bands from all over the world, RFC can be credited for helping launch the careers of Tigers Jaw, Modern Baseball, Title Fight, Citizen, Turnover, Pinegrove, Basement, Elvis Depressedly, and many more, as well as working with already notable acts like (Sandy) Alex G, Camp Cope, mewithoutYou, Teen Suicide, and Nothing.

However, Sonic Youth is not officially credited to the band. From December 2015 to January 2016, several demos appeared on the band's social media prior to the announcement of their second album entitled It's the Big Joyous Celebration, Let's Stir the Honeypot, which came out April 1. Although various outlets—including the band's label Run for Cover Records—have referred to the new album as Teen Suicide's final album, the band themselves have announced their new temporary name, "The World's Greatest," "while we figure out what to actually name our new band". Teen Suicide has since toured twice, once with Say Anything, mewithoutYou, and Museum Mouth, along with a summer tour with Elvis Depressedly and Nicole Dollanganger.
