David III Kuropalates (, Davit’ III Kuropalati) or David III the Great (დავით III დიდი, Davit’ III Didi), also known as David II, (c. 930s – 1000/1001) was a Georgian prince of the Bagratid family of Tao, a historic region in the Georgian–Armenian marchlands, from 966 until his murder in 1000 or 1001. Kuropalates was a Byzantine courtier title bestowed upon him in 978 and again in 990. David is best known for his crucial assistance to the Byzantine Macedonian dynasty in the 976–9 civil war and his unique role in the political unification of various Georgian polities as well as his patronage of Christian culture and learning.

Catholicosate of Aghtamar (, Aġt’amari kat’oġikosut’iun) was an independent see of the Armenian Apostolic Church that existed for almost eight centuries, from 1113 to 1895 and was based in the Cathedral of the Holy Cross on the Aghtamar Island (Turkish: Akdamar) near Van, in present-day Turkey. The catholicosate was established by Archbishop Davit, who was related to the Artsrunis, the ruling dynasty of the independent Armenian Kingdom of Vaspurakan. Davit reasoned Catholicos Grigor III Pahlavuni's young age for the division. Archbishops related to the Artsruni family succeeded each other as Catholicos of Aghtamar until 1272, when the Sefedinian family took it over until the 16th century.

The Guramishvili () is a station on the Akhmeteli–Varketili Line of the Tbilisi Metro. It opened on 16 November 1985. Natela Iankoshvili (sometimes Ianqoshvili) () (August 28, 1918 – 2007) was a Georgian painter. A native of Gurjaani, Iankoshvili studied from 1937 until 1943 at the Tbilisi State Academy of Art. She later became a member of the Union of Artists. Her instructors included Lado Gudiashvili, Davit Kakabadze, and Sergo Kolubadze.

Mount Dorothy Reservoir is a cylindrical prestressed concrete reservoir, built using pre cast panels wrapped around with high tensile steel wire. It has a diameter of 39m and is 7.5m deep. The reservoir has a capacity of 9.3 ML. It is similar in construction to Cecil Park Reservoir (WS 165). Standard features include: concrete apron, davit, trigonometric station, access ladder, handrails and inlet and outlet valve chambers.

Khakhuli Monastery (, ) was a Georgian Orthodox monastery in historical Medieval Georgian Kingdom of Tao (modern-day Turkey), in one of the gorges of the Tortum river. The main church is now used as a mosque. Khakhuli was a very important centre of literature and Georgian culture and many Georgian scholars and theologians studied and worked in Khakhuli including Basil of Khakhuli, Ioane Khakhuleli, Davit Tbileli, and Giorgi Mtatsmindeli.

Chatswood Reservoir No.1 (WS24) (west) is identical in construction to Chatswood Reservoir No.2 (WS25) (east). They were built as a pair of cylindrical riveted steel surface reservoirs, with interconnecting walkway at roof level. An unusual feature is the set of ladder rungs attached to the side of the reservoir, although they have been cut off at low level.

Dodo Chichinadze (; December 28, 1924 – November 3, 2009) was a Georgian film and theater actress. She appeared in a number of Georgian and Soviet era films, including The Suspended Song, Bashi Achuki, The Cricket, and Davit Guramishvili. Chichinadze appeared as a lead actress at the Kote Marjanishvili Drama Theatre in Tbilisi for approximately 10 years. The two ships of the Queen Elizabeth class will each carry four PTBs made by Blyth-based company Alnmaritec. This boathouse was demolished and a new one built on the same site in 1903 to accommodate a larger lifeboat. From 1961 the lifeboat was kept afloat in the river near the entrance to Exmouth Docks. A boarding boat was kept on a davit that was lowered into the water to ferry the crew to the lifeboat. The old lifeboat station by the beach was retained as a fund-raising display centre and, from 1966, was the base for an inshore lifeboat.

The M790 erector launcher (EL) was a modified low-boy flat-bed trailer towed by a Ford M757 5-ton tractor. The erection booms used a 3,000 psi pneumatic over hydraulic system that could erect the 5 ton missile from horizontal to vertical in nine seconds. Due to the overall missile length and for security, the warhead was not mated during travel. It was stored in a carrier and mated using a hand-pumped davit after the launcher was emplaced.

Inside Georgia, Gabunia is known for having translated the Harry Potter series of novels, as well as for being an outspoken pro-Europeanist. Gabunia has twice won the Duruji award () for the best new play of the year, as well as the SABA award (საბა (ლიტერატურული პრემია)) for best drama for his play Plays (').

One of the Southend-on-Sea lifeboat station's two boathouses is located at the pierhead of Southend Pier. It houses an Atlantic 75 class lifeboat and a smaller D class lifeboat, both of which are launched by davit into the deep water adjoining the pier. The boathouse is a modern structure which incorporates crew accommodation and offices, an RNLI shop, and a viewing gallery from which visitors can view the lifeboats. Olga asuli Alexander Guramishvili was born on 29 July 1855 Lower Avchala, a northern suburb of Tiflis (known after 1936 as Tblisi), in the Caucasus Viceroyalty of the Russian Empire to Ketevan Tumanishvili (daughter of Revazi) and Alexander Guramishvili. She was related to the Georgian poet Davit Guramishvili, and a relative and god-daughter of , a Georgian literary figure, married to Ilia Chavchavadze. After completing her secondary education, Guramishvili attended the Tiflis Women's Gymnasium. Hoping to become an agronomy teacher, upon completing her high school studies, she attended biology lectures with Professor Tarkhnishvili.

Erekle (; 1568 – 1589) was a Georgian prince (batonishvili) of the royal house of Kakheti, son of King Alexander II of Kakheti by his wife Tinatin Amilakhvari. According to the 18th-century Georgian historian Prince Vakhushti, Erekle, soon after Alexader's accession to the throne of Kakheti, took offence at his brother Davit and clandestinely repaired for the Ottoman court in Constantinople. The Safavid Iranian shah Tahmasp I saw this as a renege on the Kakhetians' pledge of loyalty. Advancing with his army into Karabakh, the shah summoned Alexander to his camp.

He summoned joint lay and church councils, threatened slave traders with death, and persecuted the recalcitrant nobles, accused of being pro- Ottoman or involved in slave-trading. Kaikhosro had the notoriously unruly Davit Asatiani murdered—sending this nobleman's foster-father to lure him out so that he could be shot dead—and stormed Asatiani's castle of Askana. The castle of Lanchkhuti, defiantly defended by Zabuedil Zhordania, fell next.

During the first session of the 1st United States Congress in 1789, the House of Representative considered enacting a copyright law. The historian Davit Ramsay petitioned congress seeking to restrict the publication of his History of the American Revolution on April 15. David II (, Davit' II) was a 15th-century Catholicos-Patriarch of Georgia consecrated in 1426. He was the fourth son of Alexander I, King of Georgia (r. 1412–1442), by his second wife Tamar of Imereti. There is no scholarly consensus regarding the duration of David II's tenure as some historians, such Michel Tamarati, place three different catholicoi named David—David II or III (1426–1428), David III or IV (1435–1439), and David IV or V (1447–1457)—in the course of the 15th century, the chronology also accepted by the Georgian Orthodox Church.

The first significant contact between Georgian and Ukrainian people occurred during the 18th century when a famous Georgian poet and distinguished officer Davit Guramishvili. Guramishvili, an outstanding Georgian poet, whose life and creative work were closely bound up with Ukraine: in 1760 the poet settled down in Myrhorod, where he lived till the end of his life. Guramishvili's literary work was started in Georgia, but his poetic talent become fully apparent exactly in Ukraine. Autobiographical collected poems Davitiani (1787), the poet's most distinguished work, were created in Ukraine.

Prince Davit Guramishvili () (1705 – 21 July 1792) was a Georgian poet who wrote the finest pieces of pre-Romantic Georgian literature. His poetic talents thrived far from his motherland, being forced by personal misfortunes and turmoil in Georgia to spend several years in the Russian military service until his retirement to his small Ukrainian estate at Myrhorod where he made eighty-seven years of his tragic and turbulent life into one cycle of autobiographical poetry, the Davitiani, which he sent to Georgia through a Georgian embassy returning from the Russian empire in 1787.

Carlisle's responsibilities included the decorations, equipment and all general arrangements, including the implementation of an efficient lifeboat davit design. On 29 July 1908, Harland and Wolff presented the drawings to J. Bruce Ismay and other White Star Line executives. Ismay approved the design and signed three "letters of agreement" two days later, authorising the start of construction. At this point the first ship—which was later to become Olympic—had no name, but was referred to simply as "Number 400", as it was Harland and Wolff's four hundredth hull.

The situation continued until 1912, when the lighthouse was closed and replaced with a moveable light on a metal davit. This was lowered during firing practice, and raised at other times to a give a range of 9.5 nautical miles. In the 1970s the moveable light was replaced by a post light, mounted on a 15m high concrete tower painted with black and white bands, giving an extended range of 13 nautical miles. In general four trends can be identified in Davit Alexidze’s art: graphical works on black background, figurative paintings on black background (times on textured surface) of elongated vertical or horizontal picture planes, yellow series and black-and-white abstract arts. Bosun's Chair has become a competition event in Sea Scout Regattas in the United States such as the Old Salt's Regatta and the Ancient Mariner's Regatta. The event is based on a practice from old navy ships where high-ranking officers would be lifted onto the ships instead of climbing aboard. The bosun's chair would be attached to a block on the davit with a line. The officer would have the chair put under him, or the French bowline tied around him, and then sideboys would lift him onto the deck of the ship on the command of the bosun's whistle.

The academy occupies a large area of land on the waterfront in Oron, close to the Cross River approaches of the Port of Calabar in Cross River State and about 200 Kilometres from Port Harcourt, Rivers State. In April 2003, President Olusegun Obasanjo directed that work should start on construction of a jetty for the academy. In February 2010 Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG) said it had donated N30 million of safety training equipment to the academy. The equipment included a totally enclosed 50-person lifeboat, a davit-launched rescue boat and a twelve-person life-raft.

David Gurieli (, Davit' Gurieli; , David Mamiyevich Guriel; 1818 – 23 August 1839) was a Georgian nobleman of the House of Gurieli. He was the last titular Prince of Guria from 24 November 1826 to 9 September 1829, but he never actually ruled because of his young age and then due to the Russian occupation of his principality. He reconciled with the Russians and returned from his Ottoman exile as a private citizen in 1832. He was subsequently trained as an officer of the Imperial Russian Army and served in the Caucasus, where he died at the battle of Akhulgo.

His goal was frustrated not by Russian resistance, but by a Persian assassin in 1797. On January 14, 1798, King Erekle II was succeeded on the throne by his eldest son, George XII (1746–1800) who, on February 22, 1799, recognized his own eldest son, Tsarevich David (Davit Bagrationi-batonishvili), 1767–1819, as official heir apparent. In the same year Russian troops were stationed in Kartli-Kakheti. Pursuant to article VI of the treaty, Emperor Paul confirmed David's claim to reign as the next king on April 18, 1799.

Bagrationi's 2009 marriage to Princess Ana Bagration- Gruzinsky, a member of the rival Gruzinsky branch of the Bagrationi, his marital life and subsequent divorce in 2013, drew much publicity.

Sergo Kldiashvili () (6 October 1893 – 1986) was a Georgian prose-writer who set out to be Symbolist but then was drawn to conformist Realist prose under Soviet rule. He was the son of the noted novelist Davit Kldiashvili whom Sergo would dedicate a special book in 1945. He attended the Kutaisi gymnasium which produced many of Georgia’s 20th-century intellectuals, and then studied law in Moscow. Returning to Georgia, he joined Grigol Robakidze’s Symbolist group Blue Horns and wrote in a moderately The Adventures of Squire Lakhundareli (აზნაურ ლახუნდარელის თავგადასავალი, 1927), the plays A Generation of Heroes (გმირთა თაობა, 1937), Deer’s Gorge (ირმის ხევი, 1944).

David III or IV (, davit' III/IV) was a 15th-century Catholicos-Patriarch of Georgia known from the group of documents dated from 1435 to 1439. They testify to David's efforts to restore the patriarchal see of Mtskheta from the devastation of Timur's invasions earlier that century. David's tenure coincided with the Council of Ferrara held from 1438 to 1439, at which the Georgian delegates rejected the union with the Roman Catholic Church. The scholarly opinion is divided as to whether David III is the same catholicos as David II (III) and David IV (V), mentioned in the years 1426–1428 and 1447–1457, respectively, or not.

The S.D.B.H.K. was seeking to building trade unions among Armenian workers along similar lines as how the General Jewish Labour Bund functioned. Like the General Jewish Labour Bund, the S.D.B.H.K. argued towards the Bolsheviks and Mensheviks to allow authonomous ethnic organizations within the Russian Social Democratic Labour Party. The organization argued that the situation 'specific' conditions applied in Transcaucasia, especially in Armenian-dominated areas and that these areas needed a special agrarian program. Key ideologues of the S.D.B.H.K. included Bakhshi Ishkhanyan, A. Rubeni (who later joined the Bolsheviks), Ghazar Der Ghazarian, Nariman Der Ghazarian, T. Isakhanyan, E. Palyan G. Born in Kutaisi in the family of the writer Davit Chkheidze (he would be executed during the Great Purge in 1937), Chkheidze studied acting at Tbilisi State Institute of Theatre from 1943 to 1946 and continued his education under Sergei Yutkevich and Mikhail Romm at VGIK in Moscow from 1949 to 1953. In 2014, the Victoria Strait Expedition found two items on Hat Island, in the Queen Maud Gulf, near King William Island; part of a boat-launching davit bearing the stamps of two Royal Navy broad arrows, and a wooden object, possibly a plug for a deck hawse, the iron pipe through which the ship's chain cable would descend into the chain locker below. The expedition located one of Franklin's two ships, preserved in reasonably good condition. The wreck lies at the bottom of the eastern portion of Queen Maud Gulf, west of O'Reilly Island and has been confirmed to be that of the Erebus. In 2016, a well-preserved ship matching Terrors description was located in Terror Bay, off the southern coast of King William Island.

Both branches descend from the medieval kings of Georgia down to Constantine II of Georgia who died in 1505, and continue in unbroken, legitimate male line into the 21st century. Davit is the only member of his branch who retains Georgian citizenship and residence since the death of his father, Prince George Bagration-Mukhraneli, in 2008.

Reaching her destination on 21 March, the tank landing ship remained there until the 29th. Sailing thence with "slow convoy" SC-156, LST-57 began her voyage to the Old World, although for a time her crew wondered if they would ever get away from the New. Three events occurred before she even left Halifax harbor that presaged an "eventful" crossing. The Southend-on-Sea lifeboat station is a lifeboat station at Southend-on-Sea in the English county of Essex, operated by the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI). Because of the large tidal range and extensive drying foreshore at Southend, the lifeboat station uses two boathouses. One of these is situated at the head (outer end) of the long Southend Pier, and houses an Atlantic 85 class lifeboat and a smaller D class lifeboat, both of which are launched by davit into the deep water adjoining the pier. The other boathouse is situated adjacent to the inshore end of the pier, and houses a second D class lifeboat together with a H class hovercraft, both of which are launched down an adjacent slipway.

Grigol Vashadze called on 12 December for massive protests across the country and threatened to sue the new administration over electoral results. While Telavi, the provincial capital of Kakheti, was selected as the inaugural city by the Zourabichvili team, leaders of the United National Movement announced they would hold large protests in front of the inaugural site, protests that would eventually be moved or prevented by local law enforcement. On 16 December, rallies were held in Batumi, Zugdidi, Kutaisi, and Tbilisi, leading to injuries for two police officers and the arrest of UNM leader Davit Kirkitadze. During the transition period, Zourabichvili met with several government and foreign leaders, including EU Ambassador Carl Hartzell and NATO Representative James Appathurai, reassuring her future administration's goal to pursue a pro-Western policy.

The Battle of Bazaleti (, bazalet’is brdzola) was fought between the two rival Georgian parties centered respectively on Teimuraz I of Kakheti and his defiant noble Giorgi Saakadze in the fall of 1626. The battle was a culmination of the power struggle that evolved after the Georgian nobles rallied behind Teimuraz and Saakadze and recovered much of eastern Georgian kingdoms of Kartli and Kakheti from the Iranian occupation. Shah Abbas I of Iran used the rivalry between Teimuraz and Saakadze to divide the Georgians into two opposing parties and to punish Saakadze who had formerly fought under the Iranian ranks. The battle took place at the Bazaleti Lake in eastern Georgia, some northwest of Tbilisi. In a pitched battle, Saakadze's backup man, Davit’ Gogrishvili, was killed and his demoralized forces were routed by the royal army.

Titanic recovered lifeboats Alexander Carlisle, Harland and Wolff's general manager and chairman of the managing directors, suggested that Titanic use a new, larger type of davit which could give the ship the potential to carry 48 lifeboats; this would have provided enough seats for everyone on board. However, the White Star Line decreed that only 20 lifeboats would be carried, which could accommodate about 38% of those on board when the ship was filled to capacity. At the time, the Board of Trade's regulations stated that British vessels over 10,000 tons (Titanic was just over 46,000) must carry 16 lifeboats with a capacity of , plus enough capacity in rafts and floats for 75% (or 50% in case of a vessel with watertight bulkheads) of that in the lifeboats. Therefore, the White Star Line actually provided more lifeboat accommodation than was legally required.

David IV or V (, davit' IV/V) was a 15th-century Catholicos-Patriarch of Georgia known from the group of documents dated from 1447 to 1457. They testify to David's efforts to restore the patriarchal see of Mtskheta from the devastation of Timur's invasions earlier that century. The scholarly opinion is divided as to whether David III is the same catholicos as David II (III) and David III (IV), mentioned in the years 1426–1428 and 1435–1439, respectively, or not. Traditional lists of the Georgian prelates, such as those compiled by Michel Tamarati and Roin Metreveli, and accepted by the Georgian Orthodox Church, place three different catholicoi named David in the 15th century, while some historians, especially Cyril Toumanoff, see in these names one and the same person, a son of King Alexander I of Georgia.

Guramishvili 2 Ukrainian hryvnia jubilee coin Born in the village of Gorisubani into the Georgian princely (tavadi) family of Guramishvili (a branch of the greater Amilakhvari house), Davit Guramishvili spent his early years in his patrimonial estate near Saguramo. As an eighteen-year-old he took part in the battle of Zedavela, which resulted in the defeat of King Vakhtang VI of Kartli at the hands of Ottoman army, Dagestani clansmen and renegade Georgians that plunged Georgia into complete anarchy. This period is chronicled in several sections of Guramishvili's Davitiani (დავითიანი) conventionally called Georgia’s Afflictions (ქართლის ჭირი). In 1727/8 Guramishvili was snatched from his bride by the marauding tribesmen from Dagestan and spent several months in captivity before he managed to escape and make his way on foot to the north.

While Ambassador, Lasha Zhvania announced his candidacy for the Chughureti district of the Parliament of Georgia, a district representing nearly 55,000 voters in central Tbilisi. While registered independent, his candidacy was part of the ruling party's "United National Movement – For a Victorious Georgia" electoral block, which swooped in 119 out of the 150 parliamentary seats of Georgia. Following his 21 May victory, he was one of the members of Parliament to endorse Davit Bakradze as Speaker, before being selected on 14 June as Chairman of the Parliament's Foreign Affairs Committee. His term coincided with a severe and rapid degradation in the Georgia-Russia relations, a degradation that would ultimately lead to August 2008 Russo-Georgian war, a conflict that resulted in the deaths of hundreds, the displacement of more than 200,000 civilians, and the loss of several territories to Abkhaz and South Ossetian separatists.

The founding of the monastery is known because of panegyric written for the occasion by Gregory of Narek, the History of the Holy Cross Aparank. This monastery is an important part of the delivery of a relic of the True Cross by the Byzantine emperors Basil II and Constantine VIII, inbound to sign with the kingdom of Vaspourakan, in which the province of Mokk is integrated since the reign of Gagik I of Vaspurakan. The relic is initially sheltered by Surb Hovhannes Karapet, the church founded to 950 by Father Davit, whose sanctity is to origin of the supply of emperors according to Gregory of Narek. It is then transferred to Surb Astvatsatsin , the church erected by his successor, the abbot and bishop Stepannos, which was solemnly consecrated in 983, in the presence of Ashot-Sahak of Vaspurakan and his brothers Gourgen-Khatchik and Senekerim-Hovhannes.

The Lily House was built specifically to house the giant Victoria amazonica waterlily which had only recently been discovered by European botanists; the first specimen to reach England was originally kept at Kew Gardens, but it did not do well. Paxton's reputation as a gardener was so high by that time that he was invited to take the lily to Chatsworth; it thrived under his care, and in 1849 he caused a sensation in the horticultural world when he succeeded in producing the first amazonica flowers to be grown in England (his daughter Alice was drawn for the newspapers, standing on one of the leaves). Through the machinations of Prince Cholokashvili, the Kakhetians managed to divert the shah's attention to the political intrigues in the principality of Samtskhe, which was invaded and ravaged by the Iranians in 1574. In 1578, when Lala Kara Mustafa Pasha's Ottoman army marched into Georgia, Alexander II of Kakheti accepted the sultan's suzerainty and helped Lala Pasha to conquer Shirvan. Alexander's son Erekle was briefly appointed by the Ottomans a governor of sanjak of Shaki in Shirvan, which had hitherto been ruled by Alexander's alienated brother Isa- Khan on the shah of Iran's behalf. Erekle reappears in the historical records as a signatory, together with his father Alexander II and brothers, Davit and Giorgi, to the oath of allegiance to Feodor I of Russia on 28 September 1587, a culmination of the mission of the Russian envoy Rodion Birkin, which, however, did not bring about any tangible changes in the regional political climate.

Side- scan sonar images of the first ship found from the Franklin Expedition, HMS Erebus On 1 September 2014, a larger search by a Canadian team under the banner of the "Victoria Strait Expedition" found two items on Hat Island in the Queen Maud Gulf near Nunavut's King William Island: a wooden object, possibly a plug for a deck hawse, the iron pipe through which the ship's chain cable would descend into the chain locker below; and part of a boat-launching davit bearing the stamps of two Royal Navy broad arrows. On 9 September 2014, the expedition announced that on 7 September it had located one of Franklin's two ships. The ship is preserved in good condition, with side-scan sonar picking up even the deck planking. The wreck lies in about of water at the bottom of Wilmot and Crampton Bay in the eastern portion of Queen Maud Gulf, west of O'Reilly Island.

" Davit Shahnazaryan, ex-Minister of National Security, stated that it is a "lynch trial against a representative of the opposition." Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) co-rapporteurs for Armenia, John Prescott and Axel Fischer stated in their 2011 report Pashinyan's "continued detention is also highly problematic." They stated, "Both the grounds for Mr Pashinyan’s conviction, as well as the manner in which his sentence was handed out, raise very serious questions.

On 4 March 2017 in Wangen im Allgau, Gashi stopped Georgian Davit Gorgiladze in the second round. On 25 February 2018, in his sixteenth bout, Gashi defeated Slobodan Jankovic by first-round TKO in Budapest. On 21 April 2018, Gashi competed against the up to that time also unbeaten German Tom Schwarz, for Schwarz's WBO Inter-Continental and Germany heavyweight titles.

David V (, Davit' V) (died 1155), of the Bagrationi Dynasty, was a king of Georgia c. 1154/5. He was an elder son of King Demetre I. Fearing that Demetre would make his younger son Giorgi an heir to the throne, David attempted a revolt in 1130. Ultimately, he forced his father to abdicate and David became a king in 1154 or 1155. The Georgian and Armenian chronicles are confused about the length and nature of David V’s reign and disagree over the circumstances of his mysterious death. According to the Armenian chronicler Vardan Areveltsi, he ruled for a month and was murdered by his nobles, Sumbat and Ivane Orbeli, who had made a secret agreement with George, David’s younger brother. The Armenian Stepanos Orbelian, a descendant of the Orbeli clan, writing shortly after Vardan, claims David reigned for two years and denies any family involvement in the murder of the king and says that George had sworn to his reigning brother that he would rule only until David’s son, Demna, reached his majority, but then reneged on his vow.

The Orbelians revolted unsuccessfully in 1177, after which a Kipchak named Khubasari was appointed spasalari of Lori. Later in 1185, the province became ruled by the Zakarian dynasty after Queen Tamar of Georgia appointed the Zakarid prince Sarkis as its governor. Between the 11th and 13th centuries, and with the establishment of the monasteries of Haghpat and Sanahin and Odzun, the region modern-day Alaverdi became a prominent centre of Armenian culture, theology and science. Scholars such as Hovhannes Imastaser, Grigor Tuteordi, Davit Kobayretsi, Grigor Magistros worked in these monasteries. However, the region was devastated by the Mongol invasion of 1236, and the Zakarian dynasty declined by the second half of the 14th century. Lori was annexed by Safavid Persia as a result of the 1555 Peace of Amasya and became part of Persia's Kartli-Kakheti province. After Nader Shah's murder in 1747, the Georgian kingdoms of Kartli and Kakheti became independent and united into a single kingdom by 1762. In 1801, together with the Georgian provinces of Kartli and Kakheti, Lori was annexed by the Russian Empire. The region became officially part of the Russian Empire at the Treaty of Gulistan signed on 1 January 1813 between Imperial Russia and Qajar Persia.
