Gates produced at the Haddebo ironworks in the late 19th century. The buildings at Haddebo suffered greatly during state ownership and both the Manor Houses of Upper and Lower Haddebo perished, Upper Haddebo in a fire 1938 and Lower Haddebo was demolished by the state in 1941. The forestry continued, and so did the electricity production in the dams up until 1965. In the 1970s and 80s the estate faced further decline, up until 1989 when it was acquired by the Hemberg family.

As at 6 December 2012, the Keyline system has not been actively maintained or operated on Yobarnie since 1964. A recent geotechnical assessment indicates that some maintenance would be required to bring the dams up to contemporary standards. The contours and dams of the original Keyline system are readily apparent to anyone acquainted with the system, despite their neglected and overgrown condition. Of the original 12 dams, 10 remain as built, although neglected and unmaintained, damage to dam walls by cattle appears negligible and easily repaired.

In heavy rain, precipitation water temporarily dams up above the flat retention hopper and builds reflecting surfaces. This indicates the high ground water level, which is only about 80 cm below the surface. Eight grass pyramids in the lawn reveal aspects of the local history. They form the quasi pro-turbances of the conspicuous lawn funnels of the former ammunition huts. The park’s patchwork is complemented with a band of play equipment for toddlers, a blue sports pitch for ball games and a timber stage.

Peat bog on Thorne Moors 2009 William Bunting, with his own history of aggressive protection and his group of eco-warriors, is credited, by Catherine Caufield, with saving Thorne Moors from destruction as a natural habitat. In 1972, Bunting's Beavers was formed in response to Fisons' near destruction in 1971 of the rich heart of the Moors by the excavation of deep drains for peat extraction. The group consisted of Bunting, naturalists, students and local residents. On most spring and summer weekends of 1972, the Beavers dammed the drains, creating dozens of dams up to 40 feet across and preventing Fisons' employees from undoing their work.
