Described as a "love letter to the Philly soul sound," Dame Fortune was recorded last year in Philadelphia, before Krohn moved back to his hometown of Columbus, Ohio.

By many accounts, Dame Fortune is RJD2's tribute to soul music, in the way More Is Than Isn't felt partly like a tribute to the Los Angeles Beat scene—though you don't need to listen to either them that closely to hear elements of both.

Dame Fortune is the sixth solo studio album by RJD2. It was released on RJ's Electrical Connections on March 25, 2016. Recorded in Philadelphia, it features guest appearances from Jordan Brown, Son Little, Phonte Coleman, Blueprint, and Josh Krajcik.

The duo's debut album, The Abandoned Lullaby, was released in 2011. In 2013, RJD2 released his fifth solo studio album, More Is Than Isn't, on RJ's Electrical Connections. In 2015, RJD2 released a collaborative album with rapper STS, titled STS x RJD2. His sixth solo studio album, Dame Fortune, was released in 2016.

Another poem by Dunbar, the Antichrist, first line 'Lucina shynning in silence of the nicht', recalls a dream. Dame Fortune came to the poet and described her wheel and the genesis of the flying Abbot. She said Dunbar would not get clerical advancement until he saw a flying Abbot. Dunbar kept this dream to himself.

One is old, Dame Care, the other is a minion of Dame Fortune. The dame has brought a pair of galoshes along that can transport whoever wears them to whatever time, place or condition in life that he desires. And his every wish in regard to time and place will be instantly granted. Dame Care predicts that it will nevertheless make the person unhappy, wishing he was back in the present.

She denies him, but in her stead she proposes he wed Lady Vainglory. Fauvel agrees, and the wedding takes place, with such guests present as Flirtation, Adultery, Carnal Lust, and Venus, in a technique similar to that of the Morality plays of the 15th and 16th centuries. Finally, Dame Fortune reveals that Fauvel's role in the world is to give birth to more iniquitous rulers like himself, and to be a harbinger of the Antichrist.

When he meets the Queen in London, he tells her he is there to see the King and the Queen tells him of the King's pursuit to Sherwood. Robin tells her he will then go back to Sherwood to speak to Henry. The King returns after Robin has left the court, and when he hears that Robin has been there he says "Dame fortune" has been "unkind" and calls Robin a "cunning knave" (21.5, 23.4). Hearing this, the Queen begs Henry to pardon Robin Hood's life and so the chase comes to an end.

Petatje debuted in the story De Ring van Petatje (Petatje's Ring, 1953), where she is introduced as a rich girl whose parents just passed away. Her aunt Eusebie acts as her guardian, but actually wants to gain Petatje's inherited fortune and therefore tries to murder her. Eventually Petatje does receive her inheritance, but her entire wealth is squandered by Nero in the next album De Hoorn des Overvloeds (The Horn of Dame Fortune, 1953-1954). At first Nero acts as her new guardian, but then Madam Pheip takes this task upon her, seeing that she had already adopted another orphan child of the same age, Petoetje.
