Verticordia crebra, commonly known as Barrens featherflower, crowded featherflower or Twertup featherflower, is a flowering plant in the myrtle family, Myrtaceae and is endemic to the south-west of Western Australia. It is a sprawling shrub with crowded, cylinder-shaped leaves with small, yellow flowers that are almost hidden by the leaves but with a style which extends well beyond the petals. The plant looks superficially like a miniature pine tree.

The Lindholme Gear was developed at RAF Lindholme by Group Waring during the 1940s to provide a simpler rescue system than the air- dropped lifeboats then in use. The Lindholme Gear is five cylinder-shaped containers joined together by lengths of floating rope. The centre container would house a nine-man inflatable dinghy with the other containers housing survival equipment such as emergency rations and clothing. The containers were discarded containers from the tail-units of 500lb and 250lb bombs.

This orchid usually grows on trees and rocks in rainforest from Taiwan and Indochina to the south-west Pacific.

Dak-han-mari The dak hanmari (닭한마리) is a popular South Korean dish to have developed from baeksuk, which is said to originate in Dongdaemun area, Seoul since the 1960s. The dish literally means "a whole chicken" in Korean because diners can have several types of food altogether from a chicken; chicken flesh, its rich soup, kalguksu, potatoes, and garaetteok (cylinder-shaped rice cake). It can be eaten with a clear broth just like baeksuk, or seasoned with gochujang (chili pepper paste) based sauce.

The Mascarene Islands of Mauritius, Réunion and Rodrigues once harboured five species of giant tortoise, comprising two species occurring on Mauritius, another two on Rodrigues, and one on Réunion. The tortoises were unique to these islands and had gained a number of special adaptations in the absence of ground predators. They differed from any other giant tortoise species because of their modified jaws, reduced scales on the legs and shells averaging just 1mm thick. The shells of the giant tortoises were open-ended; the name Cylindraspis actually means cylinder-shaped.

Current research shows conflicting arguments over the phylogenetic accuracy of the tribes and genera listed above. A major challenge in Opuntioideae classification is that the subfamily is known to hybridize (particularly the Opuntieae tribe), which further complicates how to define at the species level. In addition, the genera within each tribe exhibits variation in morphology, which makes using genetic analysis more important in determining relationships, since defining physical characteristics may be unseen in some genera. In 2009, a study by Griffith and Porter, based on ribosomal intergenic spacer analysis defined four tribes of Opuntioideae: # Core Maihueniopsis - which was shown as monophyletic through genetic analysis # Pterocactus - defined by a winged seed # Terete-stemmed - defined by cylinder-shaped stems # Flat-stemmed - defined by flat stems However, this classification has been questioned by additional research that did not yield the same systematic results.

After the leaves are shed, cospicuous marks remain. The leathery leaves are alternately set, at a slight upward angle and somewhat overlapping and lack both stipules and a leaf stalks. The leaves are elliptic to broadly oval, 3½–5 cm (1.4–2.0 in) long and 1½–3 cm (0.6–1.2 in) wide with an entire margin and a blunt thickened tip or with three crowded teeth, with a row of hairs along the rim and an initially felty, later hairless surface. The inflorescences at the top of the shoots are cylinder-shaped, 5–10 cm (2–4 in) long and 5–6 cm (2.0–2.4 in) in diameter below a crest of green, oval or elliptic, more or less upright leaves.

Mimetes splendidus is an evergreen, rather sparsely branching, upright shrub of up to 2½ m (8 ft) high, which develops from a single trunk of up to 6 cm (2½ in) thick that is covered by a thin, grey bark with a smooth surface except for the horizontal striping. In older specimens, the lower stems have lost their leaves. Young branches are stiffly upright, seldomly branching, silky hairy and 6–10 mm (0.24–0.40 in) thick, later tilting over. The leaves are set alternately along the branches, at an upward angle and overlapping. They lack both stipules and leaf stalks, are broadly lance-shaped or elliptic, 4–5½ cm (1.6–2.2 in) long and 1¼–2½ cm (½–1 in) wide, are silvery in colour due to a dense covering of silky hairs, with more or less pointy tips, often with three or four reddish or amber-coloured, thickened teeth closely cropped. The inflorescence is broadly cylinder-shaped, 8–12 cm (3¼–4¾ in) long and 6–8 cm (2⅓–3¼ in) in diameter, topped by smallish, more or less flattened, silvery-pink leaves.

The 4-merous perianth is 3–4 cm (1.2–1.4 in) long and straight.

Serruria elongata is a small, hairless shrub of 1–1½ m (3½–5 ft) high with upright or rising stems. Its leaves are arranged in what appears to be a whorl at the base of the inflorescence stalk, are 5–12½ cm (2–5 in) long twice or more feather-shaped divided in the upper half to third, with about sixty segments, hairless or young leaves sometimes felty. The highest order segments are about 1 mm (0.04 in) thick, cylinder-shaped with a blunt tip that carries a pointy extension of the midrib. Each stalk carries five to twenty five flower heads, arranged like a panicle or corymb on the long common inflorescence stalk, extending far above the leaves. The inflorescence stalk is hairless and 15–30 cm (6–12 in) long. The primary branches of the inflorescence stalk are up to about 6 cm (2¼ in) in length and mostly carry several heads, each of which is subtended by a lance-shaped bract of 4–8 mm (0.16–0.32 in) long, with a pointy or pointed tip (or acute or acuminate). The stalks that carry the individual flower heads are 4–6 mm (0.16–0.24 in) long, hairless, and lack or have a very small bract. Flower heads are about 1½ cm (0.6 in) across.
