And when the scene cuts back to Price, Elliot and Mr. Robot, the contrast between Whiterose's world of power and influence and their own shabby surroundings — they're holed up in the shuttered offices of Elliot's former cybersecurity employer, staring at Post-it notes with names and clues written on them as the sun filters in through dingy windows — is striking.

It was shot over the space of two years and it's cut up with radio and magazine interviews; it shows Brown at home smoking blunts and watching soccer, playing with his cat and feeling lethargic; it cuts back to old footage shot in the late 2000s, his 20s, a difficult time in which he had no artistic balance, no confidence, and absolutely no money.

After a fairly conventional Star Wars shot of the battle-scarred heroes regrouping on the main deck of the Millennium Falcon — the kind of image that would ordinarily lead directly to John Williams' rousing exit theme — Johnson cuts back to Canto Bight, where the impoverished, oppressed stable boys and girls are already sharing the legend of how Luke Skywalker returned to the fray to stall the First Order and buy his friends time to escape.
