The following season saw Bennell move into attack as a small crumbing forward, earning both mark and goal of the year nominations against the Western Bulldogs in round 7. The following fortnight Bennell had a career best four-goal game against Port Adelaide Football Club, his form however began to taper off towards the end of the season as he was dropped for round 22. At the end of the 2012 season, Bennell was delisted. He had suffered a serious knee injury towards the end of the season, when playing against the Fremantle Football Club.

Bayley Fritsch (born 6 December 1996) is a professional Australian rules footballer playing for the Melbourne Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL). A forward, tall and weighing , Fritsch has the ability to play as both a high marking and small crumbing forward. Considered a late bloomer, he missed out on selection with the Eastern Ranges in the TAC Cup as a junior. After winning the league rising star in the Eastern Football League, he joined the Casey Scorpions in the Victorian Football League (VFL) where he spent three seasons.

Before making his AFL debut, Krakouer played for Richmond's affiliate team the Coburg Tigers in the VFL. After a period of poor play, the Cats traded Burns to the Adelaide Crows for Ben Finnin, who ultimately did not play a game for the Cats.

Brett Allison (born 26 May 1968) is a former Australian rules footballer who played for the North Melbourne Football Club and the Sydney Swans in the VFL/AFL. He served as the head of development at the Melbourne Football Club from 2013 to 2016. Allison played as a crumbing forward pocket or half-forward flanker and is perhaps best remembered for his Mark of the Year in 1991, as well as being a premiership player in 1996 and 1999. He was known for his front and square ability to get the ball and sharp shooting around goals.

A crumbing forward, Harding has the tendency to miss simple shots at goal on the run, although he has a high work rate. He topped the Kangaroos goalkicking in 2003 with just 33 goals, an equal personal best season haul. In 2005, Harding moved from being a fringe player to more of a regular role. This improved in 2006 when he played 19 games out of 21, until the final training session before Round 22, the final week of the season as the worst of luck struck as he suffered a knee injury, requiring a knee reconstruction, keeping him out of playing for around 12 months.

He played top-level football from a young age by representing South Australia from fifteen years of age, including as a bottom aged player in the 2011 AFL Under 18 Championships, and playing in 's senior side in the South Australian National Football League (SANFL) at seventeen. His junior achievements included two-time selection in the under 18 All-Australian side, a SANFL star search nomination, and selection in the South Australian under 18 team of the decade.

Malaxos was the head coach at East Fremantle, after successfully coaching the colts team to a premiership in 2010. In 2005, he was inducted into the Western Australian Football Hall of Fame. He began his senior career as a forward in 1979, with Claremont, and helped the Tigers rise to power at the beginning of the 1980s. In 1981, Claremont broke scoring records week after week on their way to their first WA(N)FL premiership since 1964, and Malaxos' crumbing was the perfect foil to Warren Ralph. Despite missing a quarter of the season though injury, Malaxos kicked 82 goals and during 1982 was widely tipped to be the second non-full forward to top the century after Kevin Taylor in 1979Young, Doug; 'Malaxos on Target'; The West Australian, 26 April 1982, p. 60 – though he finished nine goals short. During 1983 Malaxos was shifted onto the ball to cope with losses to the VFL. The move was a resounding success as he won the club trophy in both 1983 and 1984, becoming Western Australian Sports Star of the Year in 1984, after winning the Sandover.

Until the 1970s, conventional wisdom was to have one of the team's longest kickers kick the ball into play as far as possible so that, in the event of a turnover, the opposition would need at least two kicks to score a goal. Drop kicks, even after they otherwise had disappeared from field play, were often used for kick-ins well into the 1970s, as they were longer than any other type of kick except for the hard-to- control torpedo punt. The 1970s saw players defending the kick-in frequently punch the long kick back towards their crumbing forwards who would be close enough to score; and this began to change tactics, as teams began to favour making a safe, accurate short pass to a team-mate from the kick-in, followed by a long kick to put extra distance between the ball and the goal. The huddle became a well-known tactic: several players would gather 40-50m from goal, then break on leads in all directions – making it difficult for the defending team to cover all players and usually giving the full back at least one safe kick-in option.
