I would like for our workplaces to have a space where women can speak openly and honestly about the culture there — the things that make them feel seriously harassed or assaulted, but also just a little creeped out, or knocked off balance, or diminished — that falls outside the legalistic, bureaucratic, totally intimidating experience of reporting to the H.R. office.

There are lots of reasons a driver might give a passenger a bad rating: They made a mess, they have extremely bad hygiene, they're rude, they're loud, they're obnoxiously drunk, they're talking about politics, they're not respecting personal boundaries, or they're even making a driver extremely uncomfortable by sitting in the front seat and staring at them without saying a word (yes, I was very creeped out by that passenger).

The building's lower floors are a place where it would be easy to get creeped out; they've been closed to the public for more than 20 years, and they look like something out of a Philip Marlowe novel—1930s tile work and frosted glass and hand-lettered doors, ancient safety posters, and even more ancient equipment (in addition, every inch of the place is filled with asbestos, lending the proceedings an added element of danger).
